Littering PSA

Our PSA has many different components to it such as various statistics, images of litter in Philadelphia (cred. to Catherine), a news interview on the littering problem in Philadelphia via Mayor Jim Kenney, a scripted PSA explaining the various negative effects of littering outside of Philadelphia, and a poem about littering (cred. to Kasai). I chose this topic because littering is a huge, huge problem in our city and needs to be addressed more. I was the director for most of the footage present and composed the video. One thing I am proud of is that I made sure everything was organized. I made sure everyone was on task and doing their role. If we did anything differently it would probably be focusing on our city more than the general world. The most meaningful part of creating the PSA was just the knowledge and awareness we were able to bring to everyone. Everyone litters so much and hopefully, our PSA can change the minds of our peers and cause them to walk to the nearest trash can.

Air Pollution (PSA)

For this units benchmark, we were tasked to focus on a certain form of pollution to then create a public service announcement (PSA) to better inform the public (our community) on the effects and solutions they have. Frankly, I had not been in during the decision of what our topic would be, but I had no problem with doing it on air pollution, which is what our team chose. Now, initially, for our PSA, we had intended on adding a section of interviews we did with some of our young family members, however, with technical issues, it was not able to take part in our PSA. Instead, it opens with a PSA of air pollution that dates back to 1968. It was important for me to add this in the beginning to show how much worse it’s all gotten since their attempt to stop it/lessen its severity. From then on, with facts and videos of actual air pollution, we explain how worse it’s gotten since, and its impacts on other things that are dire for our survival. Finally, we end things off with a solution of simply just having people take more action in what they want to change. In the 1968 video they took this approach as well, having people rise up, but seeing how the youth has widely taken over when it comes to protesting in our generation, we found it to be just as relevant to tell the people of today’s world.

For this project I’d say my biggest contribution was doing the video. With the voices of everyone in the group, I was able to put together an informative and visually appealing PSA to show off the work we did for the past quarter. Additionally, I helped find many different clips ahead of the video in preparation, added certain facts (for my voice in portion), and organized the scripts order. The one thing I do find that I could’ve done better, was the effort put in on the facts. While yes we had a sufficient amount of them to use for the video, some didn’t quite make sense and that’s because of me speeding up the process. What I did well in was video production and collaboration with others in our group, having things communicated with each other especially. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was definitely just learning as I created the video. To see the actual hundreds of videos that would pop up as I looked for content was very eye opening frightening. It’s important to see these things though, sure facts are very ‘eye opening’ as well, but when you see those many people, plants, animals, etc. living through worse air conditions than we are, in America, it’s just very compelling, you WANT to make a change. And for me, I really wanted to evoke that feeling with our PSA video, so I hope I did just that.

Water Pollution PSA

For this project, we were given the task to create a PSA on a topic that we were given. My group did water pollution since it has become a big issue today that is talked about alot. We see it everywhere but many don’t do much about it, this is something that affects all of us. The water we drink can come from a place that is polluted and not taken care of which is very dangerous, so we decided to make a video about it. I helped research about water pollution in Philadelphia that can be put into our video. Something I would have done differently is to put some more information about how it affects us politically. I guess the meaningful part is to be able to make a video about our city’s water pollution because I don’t think many know what had happened when our water was unfiltered.

Oil Spills

https://youtu.be/XvchmxEROM0

I picked this topic because its something that we do not hear too much off. I think we hear about an oil spill every now and then but it isn’t something that is constantly being talked about. We really don’t know too much about them. While putting the project Kelly and I both found information and pictures and we put our video together. I think that in our video, we just have some key facts so the video would probably be a little better with more info. Working IMovie was something pretty difficult putting it together because stuff would be deleting. The best thing is that I gained a lot of information that I did not know anything about. I think it was great that I was able to put it all together and able to present it to others

Air Pollution

Air pollution is caused by fossil-fuels, vehicle exhaust fumes, construction and agricultural activities, natural causes and waste. My group wanted to highlight this issue because we see this problem as a major problem that is causing so many things to happen to our economy. One issue that comes from this pollution is cancer by most people smoking cigarettes that have so many chemicals that are harmful to the human body. Also, in highlighting this type of pollution it generates an essentail message that we care about earth by the changes that are occurring on our Earth such as climate change with the weather being cold one day then hot. Throughout this project I was the researcher that helped my group get all the information about our issues plus telling my team memeber about my findings in order to alert them about what we could add to our project. In reflecting off the project I did well in being supportive for my team memebers. If my group got a chance to redo the project I think we would change our time that we spent in making the video, the video would be don before the due date.In conclusion, the most meaningful part about this PSA is just learning more about air pollution and knowing more about how this issues is really affecting Philadelphia’s community.

Air Pollution (Q2 BM)

For this project, we were given the task of making a PSA in some way to inform others about the dangers of something harming our planet. The thing we decided to focus on, is Air Pollution, something that is talked about a lot and seems to have a huge impact on our earth and even the ozone. Throughout this, I have learned a lot more than I already knew about the topic—before all I knew was that it hurt people, which is true, but there’s a lot more aspects to it than just the simple fact that it “hurts people”. There’s so much more into it, like it affects our foods, animals, plants, even animals that live within our oceans are harmed. Air is one of the essential things for living things to exist, and without that, and without our foods holding the basic high nutritions that we need, living things aren’t surviving too well, and so many people have been hurt or even have died due to the pollution within the air. Things I did in order to complete this PSA was complete a voice over to convey a portion of the things my group and I have researched. Something that I probably would have done differently is include interviews so that we could find out others opinions regarding the issue, and asking them if there was anything they would be willing to do in order to help. Also, something that seemed to be the most meaningful to learn within making this PSA is that I learned more than I knew. I thought I knew what happened, but there’s so much more, like said before, the fact that our food is also affected and also that our ozone was affected and maybe still is. It’s important to know more than just the basics so that you can see how serious it really is.

PSA

The PSA starts out with interviews from locals of Bala Cynwyd located in Philadelphia. After the interviews with the locals on the topic of food deserts, we talked about certain specific areas that are highly affected by food deserts. Why we picked this topic is because most of the people we interviewed do not even know what a food desert is. Neither did I know what a food desert was. The public is lacking knowledge of food deserts. Food deserts affect cities that are stricken with extreme poverty lines or injustice with the population who are below the poverty line. How I contributed to the project is by writing the script and getting started on the first few checkpoints. What I did well was making a plan for the video by typing up the script. I also provided most of the information that was described in the second part of the PSA. One part that could’ve been done differently was that I should’ve added more sources for the rest of the group to have access to. The most meaningful of the project of creating the PSA was just the accomplishment of completing the project.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning PSA

In our video, we have a little song that makes understanding what carbon Monoxide poisoning does. We also have the stats and cause & effect of carbon monoxide poisoning. I chose this topic because this is a huge problem in the environment. Just because you don’t be poison by it, it doesn’t mean it affecting something else. CO is heating up the Earth and is melting the polar caps. Polar bears are losing their home and soon will be us since the sea level are also rising.

Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.

I contributed to the project by helping the group with the research and transforming it into our video. I also did the editing for the video, I’m not the best at it but I think it went well.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

I think our song came out better than we thought. I would try to make the video a little shorter because a PSA is supposed to be a quick video, but the song wouldn’t ex[lain everything.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

The most meaningful part of making this PSA was the song because it took some time using the information and making it rhyme with other information for the song.
