The internet has made positive and negative changes to today’s society. It has made talking to people easier. You can easily send someone in Australia a good morning text.
Immediacy- How fast something on the internet can travel or the exposure of the internet at a young age. Kids are exposed to a lot of things that affect their lifestyle. Their role models may act one way on TV but on the internet condone drugs.
Permanence- Whatever is put on the internet is on the internet forever. Donald Trump saying “Grab them by the p****” resurfaced from 2005 during his election.
Lack of Control- We can’t control what other people do on the internet. People are allowed to say what they want about you as long as it is follows the things you’re allowed to say in the first amendment.
Make sure nothing that allows identity theft is posted anywhere
Keep personal and business separate.
The internet itself does not have rules. The internet a wire. That wire does not have rules but the establishments on the internet have rules. The rules people may think of are just things you think are morally correct.
Cyber-bullying is someone harassing or abusing you through the internet.
Types of cyber-bullying
Polling- This giving kids the chance to rate other kids and make them either feel good about themselves or horrible.
Unintentional- When you post something and the other person is uncomfortable about it.
Report anything that affects you mentally or physically.
Get a life and stop bothering people’s lives. You’re responsible for anything they do because of your actions.
Help someone out if you see they’re being mistreated.
Tips for Survival

- Help someone out if you see they’re being mistreated
- Read up on the rules for the website you’re using
- Use the internet for the right reason
- Have fun responsibly
Anorexia is promoted through the Internet.
There are so many outlets for young insecure teens to be exposed to the dark world of anorexia and pedophiles wanting to prey on them. There are “pro-ana” (pro-anorexia) and “pro-mia” (pro-bulimia) websites and social media pages. Pages post “thinspo”, or thinspiration, which are pictures of extremely thin bodies. They post comments saying they could look like those pictures if they try hard enough. They even have adults that would coach them.
Pedophiles are luring young teens on pro-ana websites to target vulnerable teenage girls. The pedophiles acts as a coaches saying they can help them achieve their goal. They tell the teens they need photos of them naked so they can “coach” and encourage them to get thinner. At this point in their lives, the children are most vulnerable and will do whatever to achieve their goal weight. It is relatively easy to catch one of these predators on Whatsapp, Facebook, or Kik which makes it so alarming seeing they are so common.
Regular men are even taking advantage. There is a blog post titled “5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder.” This is one of the most disturbing things about this subject. Men are celebrating these deadly disorders for their own enjoyment.
Some of these girls and boys are around the ages of 8-12. They aren't old enough to take an advil and these people are taking advantage of this vulnerability of being so young. The exposure is alarming. Any child any age can see these websites and profile pages.
Some young girls leave their information on these websites. If they decide to recover and not live this lifestyle they most likely forget they left all that information out for the public. Any could find them if they left any true information.
Lack of Control:
Most of these conversations happen on temporary accounts that make things hard to track back to a person. This makes it easier for the people trying to mess with these teens to seem untrackable. If they post pictures of these girls on pornographic websites it’s harder for them to be prosecuted.
The world of promoting eating disorders is so large and so unknown. There’s so many girl and boys of all ages on these websites and no one really knows about it because people don’t really search these things. It’s not hard to find, so why isn’t anyone taking care of these sad, depressed, and hurt teens that need help?
