Artist Statement

I created batman and used the colors red white and blue. I think I liked the contradiction; batman is known to be black but he is a variety of colors in my painting. I was hoping to show the people who view my work how you can play with colors and change the way things are “supposed” to be viewed. I think that’s exactly what my painting communicates to the viewer too. I think that I did achieve my overall goal to show the people who are viewing my work something unique that you wouldn’t see or really think about. I think it goes against what’s considered the “norm.” I think that this project did kind of relate to my first color wheel. The objective of both of these works of art were to show how you can use a few colors and get the result of several different colors that blend together differently and nicely. Looking at the website provided, I don’t believe that my work really relates to contemporary art.

It was a multiple step process in order to come up with the final result of my work. First I had to pick three colors. I chose red blue and white; I believed they would work together nicely and create a nice purple, the white white making it a more lavender color. The one only inspiration I really had for this drawing was a picture of batman I had saw. Then is when I decided that’s what I would draw. I think my art reflects in the world we live in by showing that it’s okay to be different and go against expectations to be different. People can use that idea in their life to inspire them to be themselves. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong way to do this. You have to experiment with colors and decide what you think would work best for you as an individual. I think this project did indeed teach me how to paint better though.
