Our school’s secretary is incredibly hardworking and rarely gets a chance to take a break like the other staff. We felt that this was unfair, so we decided to do something about it by volunteering to help her during our lunchtime everyday of the week. We assisted with tasks such as answering the phone, welcoming visitors, early dismissals, interacting with parents, setting up meetings, organizing mail, and taking messages. This is important to us because of our close bond with Ms Mullins, who we see as a second mom. We recognize that she does far more than many people realize, and if it wasn’t for her, nobody would get paid. We felt that this was our way of saying thank you for all that she does for our school. How we can make this learning environment a place where staff are also being treated fairly. Where can we find a great candidate to help Ms.Mullins have a lunch break next year. The concept of becoming a future entrepreneur allows us to use our capstone as a real-world example of leveraging our professionalism to locate a fantastic candidate to recruit for next year’s secretary helper. This will also give us a lesson in what to look for in a person when hiring them and how to approach the situation, as well as how to use our personal skills that we picked up along the way to train them on how things work in the office and proper office etiquette.
