HeLa Chapters 4-6

In chapter 4 I can tell that George Gey is a very open-minded scientist, unlike his assistant who isn’t open-minded and was quick to turn away, Gey is open to all advice, opened to trying to anything. “Mary pretended not to notice, not again….it can wait until I’m done” from that quote I can conclude that Mary does not really care after she becomes over it, after a while, she gets tired of it and do not care. Page 38, “pick up the pieces of Henrietta’s cervix- forceps in one hand, scalpel the other….dropped them one at a time onto chicken-blood clots” That their quote is very self-explanatory and very specific as to what they were doing to the HeLa cells. Throughout chapter 5, I have learned the Henrietta was a supplier, the books states on page 42 that she would always cook for everyone, she also kneaded bread dough, she would clean and just keep everybody together and happy. Henrietta would stay strong for her loved ones (page 46). After telling Sadie probably the saddest news of her life, and although it was bad a possibly nerve-wracking, and also made her nervous she still held it together for Sadie and the family. Lastly chapter 6, “those people” that David is talking about ar the people who just keep trying to get into the Lacks family business with all these questions and interviews. And that is also why he is fed up because that’s all they want. Beings though that “those people” intentions arent good and they are not going to do right by these cells and by the family trauma, they just don’t care and want what they want. This book is honestly very appealing, I can read books that I have to be patient with, this is not one of those books. The immortal life of Henrietta lacks is a book that definitely keeps you at the end of your seat and keeps you flabbergasted.
