Janae- Earthquakes
1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Speaking of the effect on earth systems in terms of earthquakes they can lead to other natural disasters like landslides, tsunami’s, etc. Landslides affect the lithosphere and tsunamis affect the hydrosphere. Landslides have an impact on the surface shape of the lithosphere and causes it to change. Tsunami’s have an impact on the hydrosphere because the water becomes polluted. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Having an understanding of environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters because we can begin to limit the negative impact that we have on the earth and all of its systems. We can reduce our pollution, carbon emissions, etc. Because the more we know the better we can prepare and get ready for what's soon to come. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? We can reduce, reuse, and recycle. We can also begin to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint. My Reaction: My initial reaction to this project was that there are more earthquakes that happen on a day to day basis. After doing research I found out that larger earthquakes only occur approximately once a year but there can be several hundred smaller earthquakes daily.
