P2 3D Sculpture
My work is a 3D sculpture. I decided to do this because saw this as an opportunity to bring one of my many characters to life. To do just that I decided to create a “Shadow The Hedgehog” based character since he is where my character draws a lot of his features from. He is all black just like Shadow but instead of going with red like the source I went with yellow to make it my own. The quills on his head are down instead of up to show the more relaxed personality he has. The statue was originally supposed to stand but after working with the clayI realized that the head would have outweighed the body and would have fell over. This is why I put him in a reclining position.
The materials used to make this are clay and acrylic paint. I started by making the head which was the biggest part since there were alot of things to attach to it. I used a little water to make it easier to attach the clay to itself. After that I attached all of the limbs and made sure that he didn’t fall over when left alone. Then I painted the whole thing black waited for it to dry painted it again then added all the yellow details.
One famous artist that also used clay is Peter Voulkos (Link). I think that an important technique to know is how to re-attach clay once you take it apart. If you don’t wet the clay a little the areas where the two pieces come together will be fragile. This is something I worked on during the creation of my image. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to turn my setback into a success. The only regret I have no base for it to sit on as that caused someone to break it by accident. I really enjoy art and this was the perfect way to communicate and express who I am
