When it was announced in March 2020 that our usual one-week spring break would be two weeks, we were all excited. Things only got less exciting when those two weeks turned into a full year of virtual school for Junior year. For my capstone, I decided to help find a way that'll make virtual learning more efficient and worthwhile for students. After some much-needed research, I found that one obstacle that a lot of students suffered from was the lack of mental support they had in an online setting. In addition, many students felt like they were more alone than ever in comparison to if they were in a classroom, physically. With that, I set out to interview students -after they had filled out a small questionnaire - at the SLA building to see if their feelings were mutual with my research. Unfortunately, many of the students felt the same; lack of support, motivation, thoughts of depression, loneliness, etc. At last, at least 90% of the students I interviewed agreed that having a resource where they could find their resources on the topic of mental health would be helpful. So, for my final capstone product, I created a website listing several resources with support on a range of mental health topics. Overall, I learned more ways to deal with my problems mentally. Furthermore, I learned that there is no shame in asking for help and reaching out to others in times of need. It is more painful to deal with something alone.
