Waste management PSA

Posted by Zainab Ahmed in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · B on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 2:09 pm
  1. The main topic of our video is all the harm that comes from simple things like littering which it normalised because people do not know its consequences. We show how a small piece of trash has a huge impact on animals, humans, plants, and water as well. We chose this topic because waste is a serious issue at our school, with many students throwing trash outside in the grass or just in the street. Many of them do not know that protecting the environment is necessary in daily life.

  2. I think the best thing we did was our story in general since it is creative and will keep the viewers entertained. We could have recorded some parts differently by choosing better times to film.

  3. the most meaningful part about this PSA is targeting the young generation so that they can make our earth better and that is why we focused on relating the video to school

Benchmark reflection - J.A.B.S

Posted by Zainab Ahmed in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · B on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2:21 pm

Unit Essential Questions: 1. What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?: biodiversity means that an ecosystem is stable. higher biodiversity performs higher functions and organisms rely on each other to survive. without biodiversity, ecosystems will die and species will end.

  1. What human actions are associated with altering Earth’s natural systems?: pollution, deforestation, driving/transportation, cooking, hunting animals

  2. How can individuals, communities, and or nations live more sustainably?: individuals could walk or bike instead of using cars/fuel-based transportation, communities can carpool together or help each other to build solar panels, etc, and nations can enforce laws to make sure that businesses and people live more sustainably.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability?: it made me understand how easy it is to research ways to be more sustainable and how much our basic needs and wants affect the environment even when we don’t realize it.

  2. What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why?: I’m surprised that the clothing industry is the second-biggest consumer of water. I knew that it required a lot of water but this surprised me because I did not think it would be that wasteful.

  3. How did you contribute to your group’s project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project?: I was the one who chose the clothing industry, and I did a lot of checkpoint 1 and 2 which were important research documents for our industry

Zainab Ahmed: Hurricanes

Posted by Zainab Ahmed in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · B on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:02 am

How do the earth systems affect each other? - In the case of hurricanes, climate change and rain affects them. as the earth’s temperature gets warmer, the ocean gets warmer as well. hurricanes need warm waters to form and climate change can increase the chances of a hurricane.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? - It can help us see the signs of a natural disaster and prepare for it before it happens, and we can know how to stay safe or survive during it.

Your reaction to your findings and overall project - I was shocked to learn that it is actually possible to have hurricanes in Philly. The overall project was fun, and designing the slides was also fun.
