BIYB is a young women’s empowerment group that aims to show young girls how to cherish themselves. BIYB was started years ago in order to give young women a space where they could be themselves and find comfort in a community of like minds. In BIYB, the girls do interactive activities that help themselves and others around them become the best that they can be as they start to navigate through life. Since I am a leader, it was my job to find what would benefit the girls best and help them as they grow. Being a leader for 2 years has taught me the true meaning of responsibility, especially when it’s for other people. As a leader, I had to take on many responsibilities and roles in order to best help the girls, and it became a rewarding experience to have. I got the opportunity to make new connections, learn new life lessons and help shape young women as they step into young adulthood. In this process, I learned that I am more capable in taking on leadership roles than I originally thought, and I am now excited to see what else I can take on! BIYB will be taken over by new leaders once I graduate, and I hope it will continue to grow as time goes on.
