Idamis and I decided to work together because we are like best friends and we both love boxing. So we put both of our ideas together and came up with something great. Also because this project what make something light up that is important to you we chose a boxing glove. This is something that both Idamis and I love to do in our free time. So this project is something that is important to us and that we felt like if we did something that was personal to us that it would come out great. Boxing for us is not just a sport it is a way of life in our eyes.

Eliza and Eva's Physics project

Posted by Eliza Meketon in Physics - Gray - D on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 7:51 am

Eliza’s artist statement

My partner and I decided to make our sculpture a happy meal because I think right now it represents American culture. I think that Fast food is so normal and typical for our culture that it has become the new norm. We also designed it to show how much fast food has had an effect on the typical American diet. Essentially what I’m saying is that a Mcdonalds happy meal is just as or even a little more American than our flag because it not only represents our our economic, social, and domestic institution but has managed to change the way America thinks and eats food. We thought that we should shed some light(pun intended) on the ordinary yet extraordinary effects of medium fries and a large cheese burger has had on not only American culture but the entire world. This project says about how we are creative and how we put thought into our work instead of just thinking of the first thing that comes to our mind and that we are willing to go the extra mile to prove that we care about the work that we produce and that others see.

Eva’s artist statement

I personally have choose to do a hamburger and French Fries because I thought it was a unique idea and unusual. I wanted to do something that wasn't a clique or something that would have been expected of me to do. What this project says about me is that I am always trying to do something unusual and unique that will make people look twice. It shows me and partners ( Eliza ) creativity and mind set that allows us to create something that pushes us out of our comfort zone. Doing a project like this pushes me out of my boundaries and makes me really engage in the physics world and really get an understanding of what i'm doing and connect it to real life. It is very enriching to know that you are able to apply what you are learning into a creative and genuine idea that turns out to be a success.

This piece of something possibly awesome is a lantern, but let's call it a lamp to make it easier for people. This sculpture (not really a sculpture) is unique in my opinion because there aren't that many Japanese stuff, seen here in fun japanesey philly. Just kidding. So, since this is base of something Japanese some may say it's relaxing to beast your eyes on, or cool. Oh wait, I just remembered to tell you guys what the Japanese thing that my lamp is base off. It's really base off those japanese wooden blinds that stands on the floor. Here's a image for you wondererrrsss.

I designed a Christmas house that lights up because my favorite holiday is Christmas. Christmas plays a big part in my culture and tradition. It reminds me of home and everyone coming together and laughing, eating, playing, and dancing and everyone having a good time. I chose to make this project because it's unique and different and no one has done it in our class which makes it one of a kind.

Artist Statement

I chose to create this sculpture because it seemed to be unique. Unique because it hasn’t been done before in the way I designed it and also because for me it shows my passion for education. This sculpture shows my passion for education because everything that I have learned or studied has been put into a school bag and has been cared around with me. And know I am choosing to create a sculpture out of it.
