ALS and the CNS
Reflection: It was very interesting after learning about the central nervous system and then investigating a disease that degrades the system. ALS is a degenerative disease that primarily affects motor neurons. In the brain, the motor cortex is in the frontal lobe of the brain. ALS includes the slow loss of motor function and takes a short time to fully manifest. The body can regenerate cells but it can't brain cells can't grow back. If the brain is the control center why can't its tissues heal or regenerate?
