Colin Chobert Social Media Survival Guide
I think that online I seem like a person who uses the internet as an outlet for entertainment and fun. My pictures on google are mostly me as a little kid so some people may not take me seriously. I usually think about if it makes me sound misogynistic or racist, or if I come off as someone that I dislike. Some of the reasons it could be good or bad for me to post online is that it can make you come off as a bad person and stays on forever but you can also become famous from it. The permanency of the things people post and the immediacy of it can make people so used to doing something that they don’t remember how it can affect the rest of their lives or make them destroy relationships. I think that if you are going to post something online for people to see you shouldn’t get upset when someone checks that information when deciding whether or not to hire you because you are the one who put it out there. Free speech is the right to be able to speak your mind without punishment so it’s hard to tell what is and isn’t protected when it comes to the internet but for the most part illegal things may get you in some sort of trouble. An internet troll is someone who tries to get a reaction out of someone by provoking them online. To get the better of these people the best thing you can do is just ignore them. Posting anonymously is something common online and can be good because if you say something that is looked down on you will not easily be tracked down but you also can’t make a good reputation for yourself. For anyone planning on using social media I would say make sure you only post things your parents would appreciate, think about who sees your content and don’t make dumb usernames.
