Website Project

Posted by Colin Chobert in Intro to Film & Video Prod · Hertz · C2 on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 9:12 am
I have created a personal information website that shows off some of my work, talks about me, and even shows a copy if my resume. I started this project with a very minimalist design and built the website from that idea. First I found a website that would assist me in making my own. Next I started building each page part by part adding in text, images, and other things to populate the site. I found this project to be not super informational and overall easy with no real obstacles. I really didn’t learn anything from doing this project seeing as it was so easy and something I’ve done dozens of times before. This made it very uninteresting and made it feel like a burden if nothing else. If there is one good thing about this project though, it is that it pushed me to want to try something more creative and challenging in the future. My website can be found at cchob.weebly.com

I decided to make a project in the 3D sculpture category because it’s a medium that I’ve never really tried out before and I wanted to broaden my horizons. This particular piece was me wanting to make a character from a web series I watch named mine turtle. I think it mainly shows that when you make art it doesn't have to be perfect but it must have meaning. I think the main thing I took away from this is how to work with aluminum safely and well. This specific piece is like nothing I’ve done before, I have always been a fan of painting so sculpting was a big step away from that. I was trying to make it like the figures of vehicles made from soda cans that have been really popular lately. I made this by cutting up pieces of aluminum seltzer cans and hot glueing them to each other, while it was difficult it worked well with a little extra effort. This piece isn’t really meant to make anyone feel any specific feeling just to let them see a fun little project that I had fun making. Overall it was a fun project that was somewhat difficult but ended up nicer than I thought it would.

Mixed Medium Lake

Posted by Colin Chobert in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 12:32 pm

I chose this project because I liked that it gave me the freedom to make any kind of artwork that I chose to do and mesh it with other mediums. I decided to make a painting of a mountain lake with a 3D canoe floating in the water. I would hope that my work would give its audience a stress-free relaxing feeling like they were on a summer vacation in the mountains. It really has to do a lot with me too because of how often I go camping in the mountains. This is my first piece that incorporates wood carving and I am really proud that I was able to pull it off. I think that this piece could fit into Philly’s street art scene, at first glance it may not seem like it but it takes elements from artists like Aubrie Costello and Low Level who inspire me with their use of 3D objects in their installs. I hope that this piece can impact the world with driving more people to decide to take up art and I really hope that it does.

Color Wheel Project

Posted by Colin Chobert in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 12:21 pm

I chose to make this because I wanted to further my understanding and use of colors. I wanted to make the project focused more on the colors than a design so I used up all of my available space. I expect the audience to think that it’s a basic practice color wheel so that I can become a better artist by trying new things and just making things. It fits in with contemporary art because it uses a sorts of colors and looks slick and modern. This fits in with art history because it shows how you need to practice with art as much as possible to be good.

I was influenced by an artist named Jason Polan because he uses very simplistic designs that look intentionally sloppy. Making the piece look sloppy is helpful because it allows me to show that perfect art doesn’t exist and allows me to remember not to get too caught up in making things look perfect. I experimented with intentionally messing up and not fixing it, I found this very helpful and I see myself doing so in the future. I really enjoyed making this color wheel and look forward to using the techniques and colors I learned while making this to help further my future work.

Feeling nostalgic like a Polaroid picture

I wanted to make a room for a character that is in love with the time between the 60's and 90's. This character has a very simplistic room that only has a few items that are very important to this character. These items are a record collection, an old Polaroid camera, and some posters of their favorite bands. This character would be an introverted teenager that likes material items more than other people.

Street Art

Posted by Colin Chobert in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:51 am
The meaning of my piece is that life and death are fragile like glass. Life is represented by the glass, and when it breaks it reveals the skeleton which represents death.

I was inspired by the way people think of death. I think people get too upset over it because they are scared of not knowing what really happens after you die.

I chose my location because I see it every day while at my locker, so that I can check up on it.

This project made me feel like it's something I can actually do.

This project didn't change my perception about it because I had already been obsessed with street art and graffiti

The Internet And You

Posted by Colin Chobert in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 9:10 am
  1. On my first slide I was trying to show some of the possibilities from using the internet, both good and bad, and some of the consequences from them, like getting or losing a job or becoming a target for bullies or hackers.
  2. On the second slide I Showed how your actions can affect someone like make them happy, you can hinder them, and how you could be the difference between a nice and miserable day.
  3. My one rule for using the internet was not to use it for anything without thinking.

Colin Chobert Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Colin Chobert in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 11:25 am
I think that online I seem like a person who uses the internet as an outlet for entertainment and fun. My pictures on google are mostly me as a little kid so some people may not take me seriously. I usually think about if it makes me sound misogynistic or racist, or if I come off as someone that I dislike. Some of the reasons it could be good or bad for me to post online is that it can make you come off as a bad person and stays on forever but you can also become famous from it. The permanency of the things people post and the immediacy of it can make people so used to doing something that they don’t remember how it can affect the rest of their lives or make them destroy relationships. I think that if you are going to post something online for people to see you shouldn’t get upset when someone checks that information when deciding whether or not to hire you because you are the one who put it out there. Free speech is the right to be able to speak your mind without punishment so it’s hard to tell what is and isn’t protected when it comes to the internet but for the most part illegal things may get you in some sort of trouble. An internet troll is someone who tries to get a reaction out of someone by provoking them online. To get the better of these people the best thing you can do is just ignore them. Posting anonymously is something common online and can be good because if you say something that is looked down on you will not easily be tracked down but you also can’t make a good reputation for yourself. For anyone planning on using social media I would say make sure you only post things your parents would appreciate, think about who sees your content and don’t make dumb usernames.
