Fast Plants Reflection

For quarter 4 in biochem, my group and I planted and observed our plants so we could be able to test Mendel’s theory of genetics and inheritance. We tested and observed the F1 generation and the F2 generation of plants. For the F1 generation, we choose the seeds with the “Non-Purple Stem” and “Standard Purple Stem Hairy” traits. These plants cross-pollinate and create seed pods which are the main seeds for the F2 generation. When we first started this project, everyday when we went to class we would go check on our plants and water them. They grew to a nice size, I thought they’d be a little taller but they weren’t. After about 3 weeks of that we forgot about them and stopped taking care of them. After a while of not taking care of our plants we finally checked on them again. When we did of course they were pretty much dried up and dead. So this definitely hindered our plants ability to thrive. At first both plants grew like I expected them too, but when you don’t take care of them you see a change. What stood out to me while doing this is how so many things can affect how a plant will grow. Location, light, how you plant them, and how you take care of your plants, all affect the growth of it.
