Group Video Artist Statement

Over the course of working on the Express Myself! Group Video Project, we learned a lot of things about each other.  We learned how to relate to people that are nothing like us, and we learned many interesting things about them.  For example, we took challenges that we normally may have never taken, and we did things that we might not had felt comfortable with.  However, we did it, which helped us see a different view of things through other peoples eyes. This unit was about finding ways to not only collaborate, but effectively work together in a productive and creative way.  Through completing this project, we learned about people’s culture, interests, hobbies, and family background.  When we were done with this project, we became more aware of people’s true identity and why they are who they are.

In our video, we showed many pictures and videos which helped viewers to comprehend the main purpose for our video, and what we want the viewers to get out of watching the video.  Our main purpose for this video was to inform anyone who watches this video about who we are as individuals how all of us are different, and how we can use our differences to collaborate and work together.  In our video, we went down the line and made sure we covered everyone’s interests and hobbies, and how they relate to all of us.  A couple main themes that we portrayed in our video are collaboration, values, identity, who we are, differences, similarities, culture, background, vulnerability, and what kind of masks we wear. In the video, we tried to be as open as possible and show our viewers who we actually are and not just who we want people to see us as we appear to be.  By doing this, we got to show anyone who views this who we truly are.


Wesley White Artist Statement
Well, in order to understand the video fully, I needed to know the purpose of it.  The purpose of the video was to obviously show people about ourselves and express ourselves to others.  I needed to know what I had to have in order to complete this project successfully.  I needed a good understanding of myself, and I needed to show as much about myself as possible to my other classmates.
To be completely honest, I learned many things by completing this project.  I learned to show all of the things that were important to me in an effective way.  I also learned how to create a meaningful video that made sense and that had a purpose.  In my video, I had many pictures of my interests and hobbies and me with my family.  Making this video helped me think a lot about how those things were connected to all of the things we talked about in class.  When I was done with the project, I think I was a more creative and critical thinker than when I was before I started the video.

​Kemet's Artist Statement

The reason we express ourselves is because it gives us the sense of freeness. Since humans tend to be sentimental, they need to be heard by others of their thoughts, feelings, than themselves. We express ourselves to show people who we really are as a person and not what is on the outside. People express themselves in many ways not just by talking but, people do dance, art, singing, writing, poetry, cleaning, cursing, sports,online networks, theater, and much more. Many people can’t just do what everyone else is doing and feel that it is easy to express themselves. Everyone is different and different people have different ways of saying who they are. We also need to express ourselves because its hard to keep a ball of anger or excitement inside of you and not being able to let it out. People ask where does depression and anxiety come from it comes from people who are not being heard and not being able to express themselves. We need to be able to express ourselves because that’s how we can communicate with people and figure out what’s going on with them in that dark little world inside of them.

Technology affects the way we express ourselves because technology is a big way where people express who they are to others. There are so many social network sites that pop into my head when I think of ways people express themselves over the internet. Many people use instagram, twitter, facebook, snapchat, tumblr, youtube, and many more social networking sites to show people who they really are inside of them. People post pictures, videos, or even just plain writing to show that they either like this or are wanting others to see what they are liking and what they are interested in. People post pictures of nature, themselves, and even other people to show also who they really are. It also affects people because some people don’t really have the courage to talk to  people face to face and they don’t really have the courage to tell people how they feel. Some people are more comfortable texting or sending people messages because they can express more over the internet then actually to them. Lastly to add technology affects the way people we connect with our friends because we are able to see what they post occasionally because social network has become so popular that lots of people are using it more and more now a days.

I have expressed myself in the video because I showed who I was as a person. I showed lots of silly and cool photos of me, my friends, and a few family members. I showed a few things that I enjoyed and a few things that I learned in my journey while growing up. I showed lots of pictures of me because I really enjoy taking nice pictures of myself because that expresses my personality because I’m really confident in myself and the way I look and the way I view myself. I also in the video showed other pictures of things such as the things that are around me because I enjoy viewing my city and the beautiful things that come with it.
Janelle Marie Fields Artist Statement There is no complex reason for why people express themselves the way that they do. There is a need for expression through every living being.There comes a time when people have the urge to give the world a silent yet expressive way that reveals their true self.Sometimes the way that people expresses their self can rary, a person can show through clothes,style,music,or dance,Just to name a few.Lastly,people express themselves. Technology affects the way that we express ourselves because it gives us various ways to do so with people who we dont even know.For example cellphones have access to different apps such as instagram and twitter where feelings and expressive content are posted daily worldwide.This gives people the urge to entertain people through expressing themselves.It gets us so determined to express ourselves in the best way possible through social media that it soon becomes a competition between who can express themselves better. Who has the best clothes?Whos been the most places? It becomes entertainment for expressing ourselves. The question that continues to bubble in my mind is who am i? I define myself in many ways as expressed in my last project.My friends have described me as inspirational, kind, and focused on what is important. I strive to maintain a balanced yet upbeat lifestyle. In my video there was display of family.Family is very important to me which is why i chose to include them specifically in my video.I choose the pictures i did because they were examples of things in my life that have influenced me throughout my whole 14 years of living.There have been things that have influenced me in the moment and then didn’t have an impact on me the next minute.But these things and people have shaped me.
