"HANDS" linoleum Cut
I have chose to create a Linoleum cut in press out a hands but i’ve chosen hands specifically because without hands where would we be? But the overall vision for this piece was to show my hands just five fingers but when you flip it upside down you see the other five within my five fingers. What i think this piece of art communicates to the viewers of this is that I think that they could perceive anything but if they were a deep critical thinker like be I would think that they would think where exactly would they be without hands , they basically help you do everything just like your legs. What I feel like I achieved through this creation art was some patience because you had to cut the right way and ona particular angle to get the exact picture that you wanted. This relates to my previous work because it has to do with carving lines and the process of taking your time because it won’t be right the first time so that’s why you try again until you get the work how you want it. My work fits into contemporary art because just like Qiu Deshu’s piece of art when you look at it you could think it’s one thing but when you look closer it’s something different or you can get different ideas from the piece of art just like mine.
The way I created my work was firstly I sketched a draft of what I wanted my drawing to be like in my art book , and once I was done that I took a piece of copying paper and placed that over top of the linoleum cut to copy my sketch the exact way I wanted it. After this process it was pretty light on the linoleum cut so I took a sharpie, traced it I grabbed the cutting tools i heated up the linoleum cut with the iron and started carving but it was a specific one I used first to trace out the whole hand to make it easier and I started carving out my drawing but I had to look at which one I wanted to be the positive and negative and space. Once I finished carving I took some ink and two rollers one for ink directly on the linoleum cut and the other was a dry one used to press on the paper to make the print come out. This was the whole process of the linoleum cut. I had no inspiration on my image I came up with this on my own because everything I looked up online was hard so I thought it be cool to come up with my own thing to draw. This artwork reflects on the world I live in because hands are how you get through your everyday life. This reflects on my own life because without my hands I wouldn’t be able to do anything I love or even type on this computer right now lol. My art work actually can put an impact on the world because it would make people stop taking their hands for granted in certain situations. One technique that i s very important to this work is the carving skill because if you don't carve correctly or miss one important little piece this will show on you art work and it will become annoying because if you want it perfect you will have to keep repeating this cycle. A new technique I learned through this process is carving , if the linoleum cut is not warm you can even carve it and I never used these cutting tools before. Overall this project was challenging not as easy as it seemed!
