Over the years I have seen pollution and how it is effection the earth. Dyeing fabrics uses lots of fresh water and the dyes companies use pollute waterways which can affect the surrounding ecosystems and drinking water of the people in that area. My main question was, How can I make a clothing line that won’t hurt the earth? I diced to dye blank tee shirts and jeans with natural materials. For my project, I used purple cabbage, spinach. and coffee. There are two different types of dyes Substantive dyes and Adjective Dye. Substantive dyes have a special ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENT which can dissolve in water. Adjective Dyes need a MORDANT like aluminum to bond with the dye so it will stick to the fabric.
