After providing this lesson to the fifth grade class I found out that not only balancing tech with physical activity is important to your well being, but learning how to balance everyday tasks like homework/play, jobs/sleep, financial wants/needs, and time management are key roles in becoming an adult. And as a senior going into college these last four years have provided me the ability to create a capstone that not only left a impression on younger students but allowed me to reflect on all the lessons I have learned and use them into becoming a future successful college graduate.

Over the years I have seen pollution and how it is effection the earth. Dyeing fabrics uses lots of fresh water and the dyes companies use pollute waterways which can affect the surrounding ecosystems and drinking water of the people in that area. My main question was, How can I make a clothing line that won’t hurt the earth? I diced to dye blank tee shirts and jeans with natural materials. For my project, I used purple cabbage, spinach. and coffee. There are two different types of dyes Substantive dyes and Adjective Dye. Substantive dyes have a special ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENT which can dissolve in water. Adjective Dyes need a MORDANT like aluminum to bond with the dye so it will stick to the fabric. I want people to think about where their clothes and how the journey that shirt took to come into your possession and what will happen after

LMST Capstone

LMST is a non profitable company that creates delicious treats such as cereal treats, cupcakes, candy, etc. We teamed up to show the young students at SLA @ Beeber that you can still be in highschool and start up a company with employees and self invest. We got 2 students in the 11th grade to become our employees. We pay them like regular employees. Their money goes to important things in their life. Ex: Allison Abate’s money is going her trip for study abroad in Italy in the summer. We had investors to help us start and we will also pay them back. With our money made we will be donating whatever is needed to our amazing makerspace. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1taVf3WpsPIZ10EHBlAsLP9dQ6r_6p8tQy0pb6B94Pyo/edit?usp=sharing

For my senior capstone I conducted a basketball tournament. Having a basketball tournament will allow the students to understand the meaning of collaboration and sportsmanship. The students participating in the tournament will gain skills that they will need in the future and also while they are still at SLA. They will gain the understanding of leadership and Motivation,

Fast fashion

Posted by Indigo Burton in Senior Capstone · Connaghan · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 8:09 am

Fast fashion industry pollutes oceans, airways, and our planet. The increasing and consistent demand of fast fashion has created more pollution and now the problem is even harder to control. The fashion industry which is the second most polluting industry in the world affects the biosphere(taking massive amounts of plants and digging up the earth)the hydrosphere(polluting waters with extra waste, transportation)and the Atmosphere(Any form of transportation, the factories). With fast fashion on the rise as trendy topics will keep coming it seems like sustaining fashion becomes more and more impossible without a proper movement. If we have the ability to take down this giant then it gives us hope for the other industries. I learned there a different ways in which fashion is bad and good and there are so many things we can do to limit the pollution after we create our clothes. Fashion is meant to be fun a part of your individual style not a hand in destroying the world that we live on.

For my capstone, I did something I am really passionate about. Photography has always been something I have been in love with. I started to doing about 2 years ago. But I really wanted to look for a purpose of shooting. I found that I enjoyed fashion but fashion that means something. I learned that people can express a lot of things from the clothes they wear. During my capstone, I collaborated with other photographers, random people, and designers to find my true meaning. And I did. During this process, I had a lot of different things going through on my mind. I used my resources and Canon to help me figure out what my true meaning of fashion photography is

Senior Capstone School Garden (Aziz) 2019

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Senior Capstone · Connaghan · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 5:33 am

For my senior capstone I basically talked about the benefits of starting an official school/community garden. This was all thanks to green team and those tiny little rascals. This whole thing kind of took me on an adventurous ride, cracking this shell of mine and opening my mind a bit more. I ran into some slight issues (minor ones) but nothing to serious. Am I happy with my end goal yea, do I think it could've been better "HELL YEAH". In the end though I got to meet knew people and learn knew things, and if that can happen to me just from working with plants then it sure can happen to others in the SLAB community.

Gary Green "Poem Collection", Mary Connaghan, 2019

I essentially decided to put a bunch of my written work together for people to view. Writings that provoke the mind into some deep thinking and laughs. The process for this project was just me steadily writing pieces throughout the year. It's been fairly easy since I write different things all the time. My mind stays sharp and raring to write something that will have others thinking. It's been a fun process and I hope viewers enjoy.

For my capstone, I decided to do a breast cancer awareness presentation. I wanted to educate young girls about breast cancer since it’s the second leading to cause of death in women in the U.S. I made a slides show presentation that explains what is breast cancer, what are the risk factors for it, they early and later signs of breast cancer, and how can we prevent it. My process and the leagcy I’ll leave behind is leaving the young girls educated and have valuable information on breast cancer. Throughout the process, I did a lot of research and gathered information for breast cancer. I asked my capstone mentor whenever it was needed and also asked relatives on their experience with breast cancer. The only struggle I faced is that making sure my capstone tied to SLA core values https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1aNeuQ6XzKbrGE_krZLktaNg1gc6yJF8Q7ERcvWHnCws/edit?usp=sharing

Samuel Igiozee - Video Documentary

Posted by Samuel Igiozee in Senior Capstone · Connaghan · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 2:22 am

Before I decided on doing work on a video documentary, I had to think of an idea that the school has seen before. The idea of a documentary came to mind but there were ideas of documentaries before which meant that I have to change it differently. But, I knew I couldn’t work alone so I asked my friend, Asaad, if he can help me out with the process of making a documentary. He agreed and we got to work. We needed to figure out what would be the purpose of the documentary and how is it going to be structured. I was thinking that maybe not many people know about the SLA @ Beeber. We decided that we were going to use the video for school recognition. We got to work on collecting interviews from student and teacher alike and it seemed as though we would be finished before the capstone project due date. But, everything came awry when we lost the some of the footage that was stored in the cameras. I brought in my USB Drive in order to make sure that we don’t lose anymore remaining footage and future footage. Asaad and I also faced some problems of interview scheduling. Many teachers were very busy when it came to interviewing them. But, me and Asaad managed to overcome these challenges and got the video documentary done. The video was displayed at the capstone showcase along with other projects.
