Joshua Ukaegbu's Capstone

Posted by Joshua Ukaegbu in CTE Senior Capstone Project · Lawrence on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 10:59 pm

For my final project at SLA, I chose to expand upon an activity that I have been doing for the past four years, which is playing the piano. However, this year I wanted to do something more than just “playing the piano”. I wanted to truly capture the essence of utilizing music to augment our school’s atmosphere. I foresaw this through playing instruments throughout the school during transitional timeframes, such as lunch. I would play the grand piano at the entrance of the school and have students gather around and chill. Additionally, I would play my guitar or ukulele and fill the school hallways with music as students would walk by and listen. I also used my music to fulfill the creative aspects of class projects. Furthermore, I participated in the school play by being the music scorer. In the process of executing my capstone project, I feel as though I learned that music is one of the most essential methods for creating a sense of harmony within a community.

Environmental Justice PSA

Posted by Joshua Ukaegbu in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 10:13 pm

This video is essentially a news broadcast that covers air pollution as a whole. The video features information about what air pollution is, the dangers, how to prevent it, as well as supplemental aspects. Each person introduces a topic within the realm of air pollution while another person expands upon it. I chose this topic because I had a sufficient amount of information regarding air pollution prior to this project, so I thought it would be efficient for us to make great use of it. My group did a great job of saying each of our lines and providing information. However, one thing we could have done differently was a record at a table to make it seem like a news broadcasting desk. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was gathering the information and seeing how air pollution affects us as a whole.

Tenets of Journalism

Considering the information that my group and I discovered, we concluded that the water crisis at hand is quite intriguing. I was not surprised by the fact that California is currently experiencing a drought due to the vast increase in temperature. As I knew prior knowledge, the areas that are closer to the equator are susceptible to possessing high temperatures These high temperatures ultimately lead to droughts, which is essentially a notable lack of rainfall that leads to a low supply of water. A concept that stood out to me regarding the water crisis in California was that the state relies more on the snowpack in the mountains to store water, rather than the occurrences of rain. This made me wonder how snow is utilized more as an essential source of water rather than rain being the main source. In the aspect of the global water crisis being an environmental justice issue, I believe that it is. Due to how environmental justice is essentially a fair treatment of all people on Earth regarding the environment, the global water crisis falls into this concept. Since humans rely so much on the water to survive if this water is not accessible to all that would have a great correlation to environmental justice issues.
