Waking Up Early Makes Me Sick

Posted by Lauren Wilson in ART 9 - Hertz - e1 on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 8:45 am
My six word memoir is "waking up early makes me sick" because I truly hate waking up early. Every morning I have to wake up at 5 A.M and I've never been a morning person, so it isn't fun. For example, most mornings when I wake up, I don't get to eat breakfast because I have no time. Also, I hate morning because it takes me an hour to get to school and I have to take two trains. My room reflects my memoir because in my room the sheets on the bed are coming off because I don't have time to make it, and there are clothes strewn about on the floor from me rushing to get dressed in the morning.

Electric Art Project

Posted by Lauren Wilson in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - D on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2:43 pm

For our final physics project of the year, we had to create an art piece that represents something about us that used an electric circuit. I decided to make my electric art piece a light up skateboard because it’s one of my favorite things to do. While I’m just getting into it myself, my brother has owned a skateboard ever since I can remember, and I always thought he was really cool for it, so I picked it up recently and I love it a lot. It's also a great way to exercise since I don't work out.

Browan Gorilla: Street Art Project

Posted by Lauren Wilson in ART 9 - Hertz - e1 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 8:44 am
The meaning of my artwork is pretty self explanatory, because the words on the art piece explain it. My work was inspired by Gary Rogers who does a series on Youtube called Skateline where he talks about skate related current events, and in one episode where he talks about Rowan Zorilla going pro and he calls him the "Frida Kahlo of skateboarding", because they look so alike. I chose the location I chose because nobody really looks at that wall. This project didn't really change my perception of art, but it did change the way I notice art around the city. I definitely notice and appreciate street art more than I did before.

The Internet and You

Slide 1: If you use the computer irresponsibly, you could catch a virus and get in trouble with your boss/parents.

Slide 2: If you decide to be rude to someone over the internet, they could take it to heart and potentially hurt themselves.

Slide 3: If you do anything illegal on your computer, you could get arrested by police.

Slide 3: My number one rule for posting online is to be kind and respectful.

Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Lauren Wilson on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 1:13 pm

Online, I think I’m basically the same person, but a little less awkward/shy. Based on this appearance, I think people see me as funny and nice, at least that’s what people tell me, anyway. Before posting online, I like to think about whether what I’m posting is too personal or not. I like to think about if what I’m saying makes sense, or if it will offend anyone. The pros of sharing online are being able to reach a wider audience, especially if you are trying to spread an important message. Another pro would be it’s easier to able to share with all of your friends. A con would be that sometimes you make mistakes online, and they won’t ever really go away, because of permanence.

I think social media background checks by potential employers are a somewhat good idea because you wouldn’t want someone who is easily searchable to have a bad online reputation, but also I think it’s unfair to base your whole opinion of someone off of their online presence rather than how they present themselves in real life.

Free speech is a citizen’s right to be able to freely express their opinions and feelings without being censored. Things that are protected are the right to protest, the right to practice religion, the right to release press, and the right to petition. Things that aren’t protected are obscenity, fighting words, libel and slander, child pornagraphy, perjury, blackmail, and  fighting words.

An internet troll is someone who intends to disrupt a conversation with and unnecessary or upsetting comment. The goals of internet trolls are to upset and rile up people in order to cause a disturbance. We can stop “trolling” by not responding to the trolls, because they feed off of people’s angry responses to their comments.

The pros of posting anonymously online are being able to post something if you’re shy without being scared of people finding out who you are or judging you. It also makes it easy for people to talk about sensitive topics without fear of people finding out who said it, which could affect their personal lives. A con definitely is that certain people take advantage of the anonymity by being rude to people because they know they cannot receive backlash since they are anonymous.

My Three Tips For Anyone Who Uses Social Media:

  • Think before you post - Don’t make any impulse posts, because you will probably regret it

  • Don’t Take Advantage of Anonymity - Don’t abuse anyone over the internet just because your identity is hidden.

  • Be Responsible - Don’t give out your passwords to anyone who you don’t trust 100%
