For the past four years, I have seen myself, friends, and the whole senior class grow into young adults. We went from being strangers to friends and friends to family. It has been a process to lead us this far with the drama and nonsense. We lost a few people on the way but gained a lot more.  The reason I am saying this is because I am doing a documentary on the entire senior class. When we first received this project, I had no idea what I wanted to do. Then the thought came to my mind to do a documentary. I found this interesting to do because it’s different from what other people would do. Also, it would be a great way to look back at our growth into one whole video instead of multiples. I know when my classmates see the final product they might get a little teary eyed and I only say this because the faster graduation approaches the more emotional we get and it’s no other way to sit and watch you and your friends grow together in four years. This was not easy as I thought it would be. I had to find a lot of old images and videos from others and myself.  That was not my only focus. My final plan is to ask all the senior teachers how they feel to see us grow as much as we did. Overall,I hope it turns out the way I want.

Quarter 2 Benchmark!

In our video we decided to do a voice over with picture to represent what we discussed. We did it this way because I thought it would be better to have multiple pictures to fit the description of our video. I choose this topic because after reading an article about the topic and understanding what was being said and hearing about the project, I came to conclusion that I wanted to present lead poisoning in the way I understood it and reflect on the topic more.

I contributed to the project by recording two parts and editing the video. Editing the video was a little hard to do because it took a couple minutes for me to get each picture to match what we were saying.

What we could of done differently was pay more attention to the rubric to figure out how long it needed to be make the video more longer and more creative. We also could of made a better script.

The most meaningful part of the PSA was explaining the statistics of the topic. I think this was the most meaningful part because we already knew what lead poisoning was and who it would effect the most. Adding the statistics to it proved how bad it can get and the increase of it over the years.

Reflection: During the gallery walk, I noticed other groups did a very good job at explaining the different systems and how they affect each other. I think my group could of did it a little better with explanation. The feed back that we got was good. Other groups were saying we did a nice job presenting, it was creative, designed well but then others wanted to see a video. Overall, I think our project was good and we all worked very well on it equally.

I think this project was fun to do. I say this because we got to experience different countries and what it was like to travel to that place. We got to see the food service, hotel service and airport service. Where my group traveled to, their time was different at the airport than it was here in the U.S.A. . We had to choose a Spanish city and give a information on what it is like to be there and we had to want to make sure that the people wanted to stay there. We gave them best hotel that we had in our city, restaurant and transportation.

I think this project was useful because we were able to express and how Spanish is used in a different way. Some people use it regular in a way where they just hold a conversation. This time it was used in a different structure where famous poets expressed how they felt. We were able to read different poems from different people. I like the idea of this project because we get to use Spanish in different way that some people don't use it.

For this project the pairs that I worked were working very hard enough that we were able to get the project done on time and we each worked very hard enough to get our parts done. One specific part that I am proud of is that we got the project turned in on time the day before. This project was an experience for me because it was away for me to see how other cities use clothes a different a way and the different weather they have from where I am originally from.

Spanish-English Eulogy

For my spanish project, we have to create a mask and skull that represents and shows the connection between someone that has passed away. The person I decided to do was my older cousin Taylay. He was so enthusiastic and fun to be around. He loved cars and riding dirt bikes. Taylay was about 6 feet tall with mid long braids and was the oldest out of six. He has a four brothers and one sister.  Taylay meant and still means so much to me. Before he passed it was so weird to me because I was used to him always calling me little cousin and picking me spinnin me around. Now it's just like not that he's gone it's different. He always knew how to keep the family together through any bad situation. This is my way of showing how Taylay means so much to me, because he showed his love towards us and knowing that he is up there watching over us, we have to show him that we still love and care for him.  When I was younger I remember him always giving me stuff that I would ask for. Even though I know he still passed I know he would still be giving us stuff and doing things that he always do. I decided to create my sugar skull of him because he still to this day we have so memories and everyone still have memories of him. My sugar reflects on my cousin in a way to show that we still love him and know that he is watching us. The items I put on his skull is to show that we still remember him and the things he liked to do.On the sugar skull I used two colors yellow and teal. Yellow represents happiness, and energy. Taylay was always a happy person. There was never a time you would see him upset, only if her heard some bad new. Other than that he was always happy. Teal represents friendly. This color also represents his personality.  This is just to show him that we will and never would forget him.  The phrase “Día de los Muertos” has opened my mind about my past loved ones, by remembering that when we do celebrate birthday’s or get together like a family reunion, we have to remember that we are doing it for them and to honor them as they are gone. It also opens up my mind, by just wondering what were some of them like. Growing up my mom would always tell me how my great grandmother was. Taylay used to bring so much joy around us. He was always a happy person. ONe thing I don’t understand is, how does his daughter go through, better yet how will she go through it. Losing my father would be upset me to the power that I don't know what I will do. Even though he was my cousin, it’s still sad to know what happened to him. I remember when we did a candle light for him about three years ago, people were just breaking down. Now as the years go by my aunt, uncle, and two cousins go to his grave site every year for his birthday to celebrate it. After his death, Taylay has made a huge impact on every

one. We still reminisce of him. It’s hard just to know that he is gone and we can't see her face anymore. The only items I know my aunt has of him is a necklace from his sister, a big picture of him and t-shirts. Finally, every year my cousin Victoria does this christmas toy drive where she gives out gift to the kids who can’t afford it. This was honored to him because we know that if he still was living this something he would have done and he always lended out a hand whenever someone needed it.

For this project, I feel as though it was kind of hard to remember the person I did. It was good to do it also though because it brought back memories of how much joy it was to have him around, and remember what type of person he was. The tough part about this project was trying to was the mask for me because, there wasn't a lot that I couldn't use to represent him.

History Project Interview: Kim Marable

Posted by Shadiyah Marable in AFRICAN AM HISTORY - Roy - X on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:04 am

History Benchmark Design

Abstract:

In this interview, I am viewing Kimberly Marable. She talks about how she grew up learning about what happened to Emmett Till and learning that Rosa Parks wasn’t the first African American to give up her seat. She also discuss what it was like when she was growing up.

Research:

I looked up that according to the modern-day civil-rights establishment, most of the problems that currently afflict African Americans result directly from the intractable white racism that allegedly continues to plague blacks in every region of the country -- across all age groups, all educational levels, and all income brackets. This civil-rights elite largely ignores the role of issues within the black community, such as the calamitous breakdown of the black family since the 1960s, in framing its critique. Black community has been the worst struggle in the 1960’s and more. They dealt with a 14 year old boy getting killed for something wrong, a woman arrested for trying to reice freedom, and they had to deal with the civil rights.

Good evening it is April 29, 2015. Today we will be doing an interview based on personal background and during the civil rights. I will be interviewing my grandmother.

Me: Hello Grandma, how is your day?

Grandmom: it is good , how is your?

Me: Good as well. SO I will start off with basic questions then jump into the civil war. What is your name?

Grandma: My is name is Kimberly Marie Marable.

Me: How old are you?

Grandma: As of today I am 55 years old.

Me: Okay do you remember anything that happened in the civil rights movement?

Grandma: Yes. I remember 14 year old Emmett Till was killed by two white men in 1955.

Me: Do you remember why he got killed?

Grandma: He was visiting his family in Mississippi. He was caught flirting with  21-year old Carolyn Bryant at a small grocery store. Bryant's husband Roy and half brother kidnapped him, gouged out one of his eyes, choked him with a cotton wire fan then shot him.

Me: Do you think that has made a huge impact dealing with racism?

Grandma: Yes. Back then in the earlier days us as black African American slave, we have dealt with alot of racism and since this situation has occurred, it shows that racism was and still is a problem.

Me: Do you still remember anything that happened before?

Grandma: Yes. I learned that Rosa Parks wasn’t the first African American lady to sit in the front of the bus.

Me: Who was the first then?

Grandma: Her name was Claudette Colvin.

Me: How did you figure this out?

Grandma: I figured this out because I was reading a newspaper and she was on the front cover with her name in bold stating that she was the first one to give up her seat.

Answer: The biggest influence on my life is my mom because growing up my dad has been in jail my entire life. Also, she has been working hard to raise me without a father.

Question 2: Whatʼs the best thing about being a teenager? The worst?

Question 4:  How can you describe high school in two sentences?

I choose this picture because it shows a example of what cyber bullying really looks like. Also, because it can spread awareness that stuff like needs to stop before some one else child is ready to hang their self, stab their self, cut their self, and take pills that are not suppose to be taking. Also, I choose this because cyber bullying is important and over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online before.
