Excessive heat in homes

Posted by Shanya Vance in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 10:21 pm

In this video, we talked about heat islands. They form around homes with a lot of sunshine and not a lot of trees. This is important because most of Philadelphia itself is a heat island. I picked this topic because excessive heat isn’t talked about enough and can be very dangerous. During the Summer, without air conditioning, and central air houses can be above outside temperatures. My group members also live in areas of Philadelphia without a lot of tree coverage.

I think something that could have been different if we could have shown how little to no trees in our neighborhoods. That would have been more visually pleasing to the reader to understand how that effect houses.

The most meaningful part of the video is explaining what things you could do to prevent excessive heat.

Shanya vance Q3 project

Biodiversity and natural resources are very important to daily living. We need fresh water, healthy plants, and sustainable breathing air.People over fish, companies cause pollution, destroy nature, and alter resources causing climate change.People can make efforts toward becoming more eco friendly, lower pollution rates, and not mass buying/ producing items. The project educated me on harm to the environment that is overlooked. What surprised me the most was the amount of pollution the transportation industry contributes to the ecosystem. I contributed the main parts of our business plan and also came up with the name of our company. I am proud of how the slides came out I am also proud of how much detail I put into our business plan. The project educated me on harm to the environment that is overlooked. What surprised me the most was the amount of pollution the transportation industry contributes to the ecosystem. I contributed to the project by creating the entire business plan and also came up with the name of our company. I am proud of how the slides came out after my crucial adjustments . I am also proud of how much detail I put into our business plan.

Earthquakes

Posted by Shanya Vance in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 9:10 pm

How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other because one natural disaster can lead to another. Like an earthquake making a tsunami. These are 2 different systems basically interacting.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Studying environmental science provides aid during natural disasters, because we get a better understand on how they work , the threats they pose, and how to handle them during or after.

I was surprised that earthquakes can off set other natural disasters. I was also interested by learning the ways earthquakes aftermath impact communities and surrounding areas.
