Tianna Cain - Mental Health Capstone

Posted by Tianna Cain-Cuttino in Senior Capstone · Aziz · ILP/TFI/CAP on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 7:58 pm
For my capstone, I wanted to know how does school affect teens and staff mental health. In order to go about this question, I had to send out a survey with various questions and then go off to interview students and staff throughout the school. This originally was not the plan, I had planned to just have google slides, but Ms. Aziz inspired me to do something more. It took Savannah and me a while to figure out what questions we wanted to include on our survey but we had already known what questions we would ask during the interviews. The final product of our capstone is the interview video with various students and staff. I concluded from listening to our student interviewees that school negatively impacts them more than positively. Personally, for me, the school also impacts my mental health negatively also. It's not common for me where it's always positive days that nothing bad has happened during the entire day. Whereas with the staff interviewees, school impacts their mental health more positively. If I were to do this again, I would want to interview more staff so it's close to an equal amount of people interviewed. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed completing this capstone and I wouldn't mind doing it once more.

Fast Plants Reflection

Posted by Tianna Cain-Cuttino in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 12:35 am
f1 generation (2.4.18)
f1 generation (2.4.18)
f2 generation (4.12.18)
f2 generation (4.12.18)
Did the F2 generation look like how you predicted them to look?

The f2 generation didn’t look like how I expected them. I thought my plants would be a lot smaller than the f1 generation. When I checked the plants, they seemed taller than the first ones. I did expect the colors to be the same since we basically planted the same seeds the first and second time.

Did the parent generation or the F2 generation grow faster?

The f2 generation did grow faster than the first. With the first generation, it took about a week until I seen some sprouts growing. I planted the f2 generation and within a couple days, sprouts were growing in the soil.

What might have hindered your plants' ability to thrive?

I think some abiotic and biotic factors could have hindered the plants. Some abiotic factors would be the air and water. The air would sometimes be hot and cold. At times, I believe we watering a little too much. Some biotic factors could be the surrounding plants a. The surrounding plants would grow very close to ours.

How do genetics and the environment affect the phenotype of an organism?

The genetics affect the phenotype by having different mother plants and father plants. So if two of the same exact plants mate, their offspring would be the same as well. But if the mom plant was heterozygous and the dad plant was homozygous, then their offspring would be different. The environment could affect the phenotype because of the location of where the plants are and the temperature in the air.

Which is a greater indicator of how an organism will look?

A greater indicator would have to be the phenotype and genotypes of the parents. The genes of the parent will assist in the making of the plant’s genes. Also, the parents’ phenotypes will help with the offsprings’ phenotypes. Meaning the phenotypes could be mixed or one phenotype only from one parent.

A summary of what stood out to you during this course and why.

During the fast plants, I would say what stood out to me is the actual plants growing. When I was young, I would plant plants but they wouldn’t grow to their full potential. They would have a few sprouts until they died. Even when I did what I was supposed to with the plants. Another thing that stood out to me was the seeds inside of the f1 and f2 generation. I’m being completely honest, I didn’t think plants could have babies. So when I saw the seeds from the plants, I was surprised. The fast plants' mini project was fun to do and to actually have plants grow.

Threats on the Rainforest

I would say for the entire ecology unit, I understood most of it and was confused about a little. The one thing I didn't like about this is unit is all the reading. I don't enjoy reading, so all the packets we received was tiresome. The key things that I remember from this unit is when we did food chains and food webs; basically understanding how that worked out. That was fun to do and to use our own knowledge to make the chains and webs. The food matters campaign stood out to me because it really allowed me to see deeper how our food is really important, no matter if we're eating it or using it. The thing I'm still wondering is if its possible to add a few more years to earth's survival.

Q3 Evolution Benchmark Presentation

Posted by Tianna Cain-Cuttino in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 12:16 pm
In this benchmark, I actually learned the digestive system. I only knew a little bit of the organs that are in the digestive system. Honestly, before doing this benchmark, I thought every organism had the same organs. I found it interesting to learn about the different organs in our studied system. I only want to know more about the different organ systems and their parts in our animals.

Media and Design Ignite Presentation & Overview

I revised the “volcanoes” to make them look like mountains. I tried to figure out a way to imitate snow on the mountains but I wasn’t able to. So I changed the color of the mountains to grey, white, dark grey and light grey. I also changed the ground so it look like snow a little more.

The project I did in the first quarter was a website. My overall vision I had was i wanted a website that reflected me and my personality. My goal was just to completed a successful website and it would work. The project was successful because I got what I need to be done and I liked how my website came out.

The project I did in the second quarter was a 3D model. The overall vision I had was to make a 3D model that gave a message and I would be able to tell it. My goal was to make my model look good enough for my liking. I wanted it to convey the message well also. This project was successful because I completed a complex model than what it was before.

The project I did in the third quarter was image editing. I edited a picture of myself while I added numerous things from my other pictures. The overall vision I had for this project was to make a image that just looked cool. I would say this project was successful but it wasn’t. I was trying to add some more things to my picture but I could find more to use. It was successful to because at least I made a complete image that I was satisfied yet.

The project I revised was my quarter 2 3D modeling project. I decided to revised this project because I thought of how the message could still be conveyed but with mountains instead of volcanoes. In order to change the model around some, I just change the color of volcanoes to grey, light grey, white and I kept a couple mountains black. I also changed the ground with the mountains to match the color so it could look like snow was on the ground.

Your high point of the course when it comes to your learning My high point of this course was creating my website. I found this to be my high point because I never made a website and I thought it was cool to do it.

An area of growth for you When I originally created my 3D model, it was simple and plain. But then I figured out other ways on how I could make it more complex. I didn’t want to really add anything before I realized it was simple.

How you have used or could use a skill or technique you learned this year outside of this class? For 3D modeling, I could use this in life if I wanted to make a 3D modeled hand or leg for people. People have missing limbs could use this greatly.

An idea you want to pitch for a project for next year's class A possible project could be creating a online game

3 tips for anyone taking this class

  • When completing your checkpoints, take your time with them

  • Choose your projects wisely because you don’t want to choose a project that you may find difficult

  • Don’t miss your checkpoints because if you do, your grade could be in danger

My Website for Media and Design

Posted by Tianna Cain-Cuttino in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 12:57 pm

In my project, I created a website that basically talks a little about me and  my life. My hope was to create a nice looking website and I did create that. In order to complete my project, I had to make an account for Weebly so I could make the website. After that, I started building my website with the pages that we had to have (home, about me, resume, and project). I completed the project with only one “half” failure. When I was trying to upload my resume onto the website, it was taking too long to load but I waited till it eventually uploaded. I learned how to make a website, something I didn’t do before. I have wondered how website were created and I didn’t think it was this easy.I learned that I could do something I never did before and that was create a website. I didn’t think I would have to create a website, but I did. If I were to do this project over again, I would chose a different background for the website and I would be more descriptive on the pages. Some tips would be to take your time when building your site, make sure that all your pages are finished, and proofread the pages. I chose my theme first and wrote on the different pages. My theme didn’t change when I wrote on the pages. This project inspired me used perhaps make another website that I could use in the future for professional purpose.
