Q3 Benchmark Biochem

Posted by Saniyyah Suluki-Stephens in Biochemistry 2 · Aziz · A on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 6:58 pm

For the biochem project, we had to dissect a frog and a worm then we had to make a project about how humans, frogs, and worms are similar and different. In my group, it was Layla, Dale, and Bella. Then we had to pick another animal and we chose a tiger. In our project, we chose to do the digestive system and tell how it worked and what we did. We found out that we have more things in common with worms, frogs, and tigers than we thought we did. Here are some pictures of my project.

Q3 Benchmark : Biochemistry II : The Comparisons Of The Digestive System

Posted by Dale Mejaries in Biochemistry 2 · Aziz · A on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 6:07 pm

Link To Background Information Behind The Model : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rQ0RfATzLBXiIEAiYHJFT_fCRYALypvzQ418cLbR8PM/edit: This project was meant for everyone to show the different species and organ systems that we studied to one another. Bella, Saniiyah, Layla, and I decided that we were going to do the Digestive System from day one. To my knowledge, we chose this, because we wanted to understand and see the similarities/differences between the species systems. The species that we had to research about were humans, worms, frogs, and tigers. What I've learned from doing this benchmark was how to research better and collaborate better, also many things that I didn't know about the species like what they're organs do. Below are our visual images helping you get an understanding while being brought in by the colorfulness of the images. Enjoy!!!

Comparative Anatomy

What I learned is that webbed feet on a frog improved its swimming abilities but One thing I wonder is how long did it take for the frog to get webbed feet. Actually breaking down an organism to find features and abilities they have is amazing how long the way they've came.

During this project I have learned several things about the organisms on Earth. I have learned they are very alike all over their bodies. Something I noticed that was very similar was  the bones in the ears. The skeleton structure I noticed was one bone, two bones, a lot of bones, then toes/fingers. I wonder was there ever any half human/animal in the past.

I learned many things such as how the skeletal system helps these living organism and how they have differences and many similarities .

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1021zh1PouXy_RTbSHR81Iwb8D8KOiFhsd4G6MMo1P5E/edit?usp=sharing While studying the Respiratory system of an Orca and comparing it to the Respiratory systems of other animals I noticed a lot of things. I learned that some animals share the same Respiratory organs with other animals. It's crazy how orcas and Humans have the same Respiratory system. When you look at the picture on this post can you tell which one is the Orca's lungs and which one is the Human lung? The Orca's lungs are the right and the Human lungs are on the left.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1021zh1PouXy_RTbSHR81Iwb8D8KOiFhsd4G6MMo1P5E/edit?usp=sharing Working and comparing the orca with other animals, I really learned from the differences and similar traits we have compared to them. With all the similar organs we have, you can tell that over time different species were made to suit their environments. from having hearts in different locations to having more streamlined skin to better swimming capabilities. Learning things like this was very helpful in letting me understand the differences and similarities we have with the animals living with us.
