Air pollution psa

Posted by Lynsay Bennett in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11:27 pm

This PSA aims to educate and inspire viewers to take action against air pollution in Philadelphia, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to address this pressing issue. It should provide viewers with a sense of urge to bring change. I was interested in this issue because my sister has asthma which can be triggered by air pollution. I think I did well with the video editing and I wish I had gotten interviews of civilians in the city’s input on the topic. The most meaningful part was seeing how my feelings about the environment changed.

Waste management

The video provides a comprehensive overview of waste management, covering topics such as the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling, and the impact of waste on the environment. The rationale for choosing this topic is to raise awareness about the significance of responsible waste management practices and their role in environmental sustainability. The video effectively communicates key information about waste management, highlighting its relevance in today’s society. It could have been improved by including more specific examples and statistics to further emphasize the importance of the topic. The most meaningful part of creating the PSA was the opportunity to contribute to educating others about the critical issue of waste management and its impact on the environment.

Food Insecurity PSA

Posted by Laila Abdul-Haqq in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:44 pm

Provide a summary of the contents of your video and a rationale for why YOU chose this topic, in paragraph form.

For our video, we looked at the problem of food insecurity when people don’t have enough affordable, healthy food to eat. We interviewed someone who doesn’t have enough food for their family and kids. To which they talked about the stress of not knowing if there will be food on the table. We also shared some important facts, for example; 1 out of every 8 households in the U.S. doesn’t have access to enough food, and it’s even worse for Black and Latino families. I picked this topic because food insecurity affects millions of people, but it’s often hidden and ignored. These people are being neglected by the government when we actually have ways to make sure everyone has enough to eat. So, being able to be a voice for the people who aren’t heard with an issue like this seemed very important, which is why ultimately I chose this topic.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

Don’t think that anything went “well.” I feel as though if my group had more time and didn’t procrastinate as much we could’ve put together a way better video with more information that was also engaging. With that being said, if I were to do anything differently, I would do everything in a timely manner and map out and plan everything before actually doing it.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

To me, the most meaningful part of the experience was being able to advocate for an issue that is not really spoken about often, and that even the government has ignored. Before we learned about the subject in school I had never heard of it, which is kinda crazy to me. Also, just being able to learn more about the subject and educate myself on the issue, causes, and who it effects was also pretty meaningful as well.

Food Insecurity PSA

Posted by Leya Aleyu in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:39 pm

For our video, we did a news report about food insecurity causing riots in Philadelphia, which has personal stories about people struggling with hunger and having to eat a bunch of processed food due to disparities. It also has alarming statistics on how widespread the issue is, and calls for action to solve the crisis. I chose this topic because food insecurity is a major problem impacting many people, especially in underprivileged communities like the ones in Philly and even in places abroad like Ethiopia, and by raising awareness it could help motivate solutions.

When it comes to what we did well in creating this project, there isn’t much besides how well it turned out, despite how badly we procrastinated. If I could go back, I wouldn’t have started the project the day before it was due, so I would have had a reasonable amount of time to work on it.

If I’m being honest, there really wasn’t anything meaningful about experiencing the creation of a PSA. If I had to say why I feel this way, I’d probably say it’s because I didn’t really take the time to make it, so I couldn’t fully absorb what I was doing and the real meaning behind it.

Asbestos Psa

Our video shows that asbestos can hide in building and harm others with exposure. By using a hide and seek narrative to not only create understanding but foster empathy for the school community that suffers from asbestos exposure. We told our narrative very well and we were enjoyable. The most enjoyable part was putting the information into video cause that’s when we apply the knowledge and truly understand what we had researched.

Lead Poisoning PSA by Jahad Marable

Posted by Jahad Marable in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 11:49 pm

Our PSA about lead poisoning starts with a picture of the city skyline and background music to show how serious the issue is. It talks about how lead poisoning can be prevented and shares stories of affected families and communities. I picked this subject because I know it’s really important in Philadelphia. After learning a bit about lead poisoning, I got even more curious to learn more about it.

The PSA effectively raises awareness about lead poisoning by using calls to action, human stories, and facts. Adding expert opinions and testimonials makes the message more credible and emotional. However, including more images would help draw in viewers and highlight key points. To enhance the impact of the call to action, specific steps to combat lead poisoning should be outlined beyond just getting tested and treated. When I think about my own experience, I remember when they found lead in the paint of my old middle school building during an inspection. Because of that, they had to close the school temporarily while they fixed the problem.

Food Deserts

Posted by Patrick Khan in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 11:40 pm

My PSA for food deserts focuses on the effects of food deserts and what can be done to stop them as well as some other information about them and examples of what they do to people.I chose this topic because I think its so so important for the people living in Philadelphia regardless of their economic status or area they live in. to have access to healthy and fresh produce in order to have a balanced and well nutritionalized life. I feel that I did well with the information given in this project. the most meaningful part of this project for me was researching the reason of Philadelphia that are considered a food Desert and why they are considered food deserts, this project has given me so much new insight about food insecurities and why its important to help fight for equality and inclusion when it comes to fresh food access for people in Philadelphia.

Oil Spills- Miller

Posted by Jackson Miller in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 11:36 pm

Our video includes not only visuals for what can happen to a community after an oil spill, but also firsthand accounts from people affected by them. I chose this topic because it is something I had researched in the past and I feel it speaks to me and my future professions, seeing as how many times, animals are the most affected by oil spills. I think adding interviews and live footage made it seem much more personal, I just wish we had filmed a bit more of the rest of the group.
