How Schizophrenia Affects the Brain

I learned that schizophrenia is not a personality disorder but it sounds like "Schizotypal Personality Disorder" which has the "schizo" as a root word or prefix so I would like to assume they do similar things to the brain. I also learned that schizophrenia affects the spine. A lot of things I've done research on is hard to understand.
