Define Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control as they pertain to the Internet and explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control affect both our offline and our online identities and lives. Include at least one example for each. Immediacy is how a post or a comment can spread throughout the internet. How this can affect our offline and online identities is that if a post is offensive or any other type of discrimination people will bully you or torment you. For example when Tyler committed suicide, his roommate was charged for murder because he was the reason Tyler killed himself.
Permanence is when a post or comment can’t be taken off online. This is due to screenshots, sharing, and re posting. How this can affect you online and offline identity is that people you don’t know can trace where that post came from and get your information and start harassing you. For example, Amanda Todd’s friends posted her flashing and shared it to everyone. That post was then seen by a child molester and he tracked the picture down and started to torment Amanda.
Lack of control is how a post or comment can be even if you delete. How it can affect our offline and online is that, online people can re post, share,or screenshot a text, comment, post or comment. An outcome of this is that even if you try delete any type of post. A example of this is when Amanda Todd flashed her friends they took a screenshot, and Amanda tried to delete the pictures, but she couldn’t because everyone kept sharing and sending.
