Dear Myles, Jacey, Morgan, Jamilla. I am applauded with the execution of your zine, “The Reality of Appropriation,” because it brings awareness to an issue many people are unaware of. I loved the thought that was placed in this project of yours. Something that stood out in your zine for me is the amount of interviews that were done. I thought this is very important because it showed how other black teenagers felt about their culture being appropriated and get see how they voiced their opinions. Another part that I stood out to me is the decor/theme of each page. This stood out for me because it was just the right balance and felt like one unified piece Your zine reminds me of something that I did once. One time I wrote a poem about my culture and how it had been stereotyped by the world over the years. In this poem, I wrote out my feelings about the issue . It was great to release my opinions and help break those ignorant ideas with my words like you all have done in your zine . Thanks for your Zine. I look forward to seeing what you make next, because I love the the way it was done and researched . It added to my known knowledge about this topic.
Dear Myles, Jacey, Morganh, Jamillah.
I am amazed with the quality of your zine, “The Reality of Appropriation,” because it brings up a topic many people are ignorant towards. You executed your topic very well. One part of your zine that stands out for me is where you added quotes in text bubbles. I think this is very because it showed us your quotes in a way it fits the aesthetic and style of your overall zine. Another part that I stood out to me is the background of each page. This stood out for me because it was simple but very eye catching. Your zine reminds me of something that I made once. One time I wrote a poem about cultural appropriation because I’ve seen multiple videos of discourse involving cultural appropriation on social media apps. In this poem, I wrote out my feelings about this. It was angering to see my culture being used as a prop. Thanks for your Zine. I look forward to seeing what you make next, because I love the the way it was presented. It added to my known knowledge about this topic.
I am amazed by your Zine , “The Reality of Appropriation,” because it is so neatly put together. The colors, the collages, and the over all message is just so well put together. One part of your Zine that stands out for me is you guy’s poems. I think this is well done because each of your poems gave meaning and emotion. In Jacey’s poem, I really like the stanza, “ AS FAST AS LIGHT TRAVELS AND
THEN LEAVING TO REVEAL DARKNESS
EXCEPT IT'S NOT GONE, GONE IN THE
EYES OF THE IGNORANT
THE HOLDERS OF CULTURE STILL
ENDURE HARDSHIPS, CELEBRATION
STRIFE, GLORY, AND GLEAMS
IT'S A LIFESTYLE
NOT A LIGHTBULB THAT TURNS ON ANO
OFF.” I liked this stanza because it speaks on how fast people are willing to appropriate and call it a trend but once it’s brought to the attention that it’s ignorant it just gets past on with consequence. It still hurts the culture the appropriators are appropriating. Another part that I liked is the collages. This stood out for me because of the transparency of the photos and words used. It looks neater and well put together and not just a bunch of photos being thrown into a messy collage.
Your zine reminds me of something that I made once. One time I made a zine with my group also. But instead I did a original art piece instead of a collage. It was a great experience to start drawing again and I felt like I could incorporate more with art instead of a collage but your collages were really nice.
Thanks for your zine guys! I look forward to seeing what you make next, because your zine was really nice and appealing to the eye. Great job:))
I am impressed with your zine, “The Reality of Appropriation,” because it's clear effort was put into the design and appearance. The way the cover is designed is appealing.
One part of your zine that stands out for me is where Morgan's collage has a cutout of herself in the center. I think this is cool because she put in the time and effort to take a photo of herself and cut it out to put into her collage for added uniqueness.
Another part that I liked is the theme itself. This stood out for me because it has a sort of retro vibe. I think this is fitting considering how long cultural appropriation has been going on, and it's also just interesting to look at.
Your cover reminds me of something that I made once. One time I made a similar collage. It also included part of a photo of a person incorporated with other elements. It used grain for added effect too.
Thanks for your zine. I look forward to seeing what you make next, because the design is appealing. I like the cover and the theme.
