Daniel Baez Capstone

Posted by Daniel Baez in Senior Capstone · Bentum · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 4:34 am

For my capstone I decided to do it on the haunting truth of our corals bleaching. The reasoning for me doing my project on this is because no one really knows it's happening. It’s rarely talked about on the news and yet its impacting our everyday lives. I've always been drawn to the magic of the ocean. It feels like time slows down. Most people stare up into space with wonder yet we have this almost alien world on our planet teaming with life. But it's a world most people never explore; and yet, it plays such a big part in our lives. Our oceans are the source of life.  Oceans control the climate, the weather, and the oxygen we breathe. Without healthy oceans, we do not have a healthy planet. For many of us, we live far from the nearest beach, for us, it is “out of sight, out of mind”.

Q3 Botany Benchmark

Posted by Daniel Baez in Botany · Aziz · y1 on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 12:56 pm
For this Benchmark I learned about the differences in Urban Farming, Tower Gardening, and Hydroponic Farming. You can use any of these three methods of farming to your advantage. The only differences are the materials which you will use during the process. These benchmark also helped m in a way to understand farming a little more.

Global Water Crisis Info-graphic

Posted by Daniel Baez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 10:30 am

Made with Padlet
Something that stood out to me was the Flint Michigan incident. The crisis has affected 90 people they have become sickened and 12 people have died. The water was contaminated by high lead level and a water born legionnaires disease. Also some places that are going through global water crisis are Brazil, Iran, Indian,  and China. Water around the world is greatly affected and we don't really notice about it because since we live at an area where water is in good conditions we tends to only worry about our selves and not think outside the box. I think that global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because the environment is being harmed, which is where we get our water from so if the water is contaminated we will not have anything to drink going into dehydration and maybe death.

Toxic City Info-graphic

Something that stood out to me while making this info-graphic and gathering all of the information was how children in average age of around six years old are in danger because of led and from what I read lead taste sweet which means that children would consume it causing the IQ to lower harming them and their health. Something that I am still wondering after finishing this info-graphic is about lead poison awareness and what will happen if the lead poison crisis in Philadelphia is still ignored on a national scale will the numbers of lead poisoning continue to rise or will we be immune to lead by then.

Comparative Ethnography

Posted by Daniel Baez in Botany · Aziz · y1 on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 12:10 pm
With the indigenous knowledge, we are capable to help with the biodiversity, and we can also help the forest due to the traditions only working if the forest canopy is intact for example in the old, Africans used to conserve forests in a simple way. Indigenous wisdom is a valuable tradition among indigenous peoples, in these long traditions human problems have been taken care of by learning from other species and also from the wider natural processes in which we participate. The anatomy of a plant can affect plant physiology in a positive way because we are able to use various parts of a plant for a variety of things such as food, medicine, etc. Human interactions affect plants ability to adapt to changing climates because if it’s extremely hot then there can be droughts and plants won’t have enough water where in other areas they can drown to excessive water.

Natural Disasters (Tsunamis)

All the spheres in the system interconnect and overlap. None of the spheres work individually. The hydrosphere and atmosphere connect, through evaporation from the hydrosphere providing the medium for the formation of rain and clouds in the atmosphere. The geosphere and hydrosphere through water providing the moisture and medium for the erosion and weathering of rocks which are on the geosphere. In return, the geosphere provides a platform for bodies of water and ice melts to flow back into the oceans. The atmosphere provides the geosphere with thermal energy which is needed for the rocks erosion and breakdown. In return, the geosphere reflects the sun back into the atmosphere. Biosphere receives sunlight energy, gases, and heat from the atmosphere. Also receives H2O from the hydrosphere and living medium from the geosphere.

Having an understanding of environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters because you have a better understanding of how each of the spheres work individually to form the planet we live in today enabling us to sustain life. Also, we can detect when a natural disaster might break out and we can also tell when it will have an outbreak in the future.

Some efforts we can make to create a sustainable future is keeping the planet greener because as time goes by we just seem to trash it even more. Also, pollution can be dealt with as well to better the future of our spheres.

Fast Plants Reflection

Posted by Daniel Baez in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 9:36 pm
Not all of our F2 generation looked like how I had predicted them to look because they looked like yellow and green leaves but a non-purple stem. Also towards the end, we stopped nurturing our fast plants like we were supposed to so it ended up looking dry and shriveled up. Also, the parent generation grew faster than the F2 generation. What really hindered our plants was the lack of watering that we should have done at least two to three times a week. Both genetic make-up and environmental influences, for example, height, weight and the color. Also, it might be growing accustomed to the artificial light, then the plant is in a tight space is making them look different from other plants which aren’t in a tight space and are receiving sunlight. The environment in which the organism might be inhabiting and how the way in which they are being treated. During the course of quarter four, I learned that the environment which a plant is inhabiting does have a big impact on the plant, affecting their growth. I acknowledged this first when we first began to nurture our plants to the point that they were green and more seeds were ready to be planted. Also when we stopped nurturing the plants and stop caring for them they began to wilt and went from being healthy green to a desert color and didn’t have little pods growing anymore.

Linoleum Cut Art

Posted by Daniel Baez in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 9:46 am

The reason why I’ve created this artwork is because when you approach Linoleum cut you will noticed that it only consist of one color black. Because of this I decided to do a fish yin-yang because I thought that it would be great for this project, and as it turned out it went as I imagined it would. My overall vision for my work was to be precise and cautious about my work because it was my first time doing linoleum cut so I wanted my work to be spectacular. But I was hoping to achieve a fish yin-yang through the creation of my work and that's what I got. I think that what my work communicates to the viewers approaching it is that they will look at the colors and shapes and their first thought would be “ooh this is a yin-yang how cool” and hopefully they cherish it. I think that I achieved many things in this project, some which were completing it on time, measuring how paint I needed for my piece of art to be readable, by readable I mean so that they can noticed that it's a yin-yang as soon as they walk up to it.

My current work relates to my previous work because some drawing had to be done so I could  then print my image and start cutting out the areas I did not need. My art work fits with Sun Xun because in one of his drawing there’s a man staring towards a wall and it looks as if some of the lines were carved out. Also it looks similar to what I did, he also used black paint only to create his piece of art. I used three tools to accompany my work. NIJI woodcarving knives was what I used to finish my work, the v-knife I used to carve out the small inspections, the regular knife was to cut next to the lines that were going to be black, and the half oval knife which I used to carve out the rest of which was going to be white. . Something that inspired me to do this yin-yang was watching a movie when I was a child called “kung-fu panda.” I guess you can say that my work reflects my life because I like to do things nicely and with perfection.

This art piece does not reflect my area where I live. Also my experiences it does reflect it a bit because I like playing with sharp things and caring things and woods. My work can influence or make an impact on the world because others might look at it and inspire others to do it. Certain techniques I used was not heating it up because it took to much of my time to soften it so I decided to just carve without heating it up because it was faster. The technique I learned was to not heat it up because it took much more time to complete my work.

In conclusion I think I did well and I hope that whoever views my linoleum cut painting enjoys viewing it. Also I hope that they can tell that my goal was to do a fish yin-yang. That was my overall goal.

Value, Line and Texture Drawing

Posted by Daniel Baez in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 12:16 pm

The reason  why I have created this work is because I was gonna draw actually gonna start by drawing a cube but some house expanded on it and made more than I was going to do. Which became sort of like two hallways.

At first what I was hoping to achieve was a cube but I saw that it wasn't coming out the way I wanted it to come out so I wasn’t accomplishing my goal. So then I just decided to add random thing to my drawing and came up with two hallways like if it was an apartment, but I drew it randomly so I didn't really do it based off of two point perspective.

I think that what my art communicates to any viewer is an illusion in most of it and many different colors just mixed in, also how I fixed it by adding the two points of perspective and then fixing it which made it way better.

What I think I’ve achieved through the creation of this art is how to draw a two point perspective piece of art.

I don’t think that my current work relates to any of my previous work because when I learned how to draw a one point perspective room I was a freshmen and I am now a sophomore. And I haven’t learned how to draw a two point perspective drawing this was my very first time doing this.

My piece of art fits into the Abstract Sculpture Sean Newport made a sculpture that causes an illusion and I made a drawing causing an illusion.

The first thing I did was draw a rough draft of what I wanted to do which was a cube. But then I just switched up and added plenty of things and made lots of changes. I had to eliminate so many things and add others.

What inspired me to draw this piece of art is that last year I learned how to draw a one point perspective room but this time I wanted to do like two hallways going to two apartment doors.

I guess you can say that this work reflects the world we live in because nowadays there are various artists that draw pieces of art like the one I did. I don’t really think that this work reflects on my own life. My experience was last year because I learned how to draw 3D objects and illusions.

I think that my work could influence or make an impact on the world is because when people look at my drawing they can come up with so many stories to it because of the various things I’ve drawn.

Knowing what your doing is very important because I didn’t know that I had to draw two point so I could draw the walls of the halls perpendicular to one another and so that everything can be equally measured.

Do some research or ask your teacher about what your doing make sure your 100% you're sure you know what you're doing.

In conclusion I think that I have improved my piece of art in a major way because I started of with just a cube and ended with 2 apartments. This is why when your drawing you should have an open mind because you never know if you're going to expand on your drawing or make a whole new one that’s better.

Color wheel

Posted by Daniel Baez in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 12:49 am

I have created this piece of art because I didn’t want to make a wheel like everybody else. I wanted to create something unique. My overall vision for my work is was to make the captain american shield but it wasn't coming out correctly so I just decided to make 5 circles with stars in them to separate the colors. What I expect from my audience is complements and also things that they think I need to work on. The way the audience will react is confused at first because they're going to try and figure out what I did and it’s probably gonna take them a while. My current work relates to previous work because I put my knowledge together of things I’ve learned in the past art classes to make the shapes I did and paint . Also I used my understanding of how to mix colors to complete my work. I think my work fits into the current contemporary art of creating my own color wheel my way. My work fits in with the history of art practice because if you look at my work and look at someones who had more practice than me you will see my process of practicing the color wheel. My work fits into groups of exhibitions, or series of projects I have done because knowing how to mix colors and draw the things that needed to be drawn helped me accomplish my goal of this project. Sources for the inspiration of my image were the avengers one of their protagonist Captain America. I was going to do he’s shield. I guess you can say that my works relates to other artists work because every artist starts with an idea works on it for a while but see things they don’t like and decide to change their idea or improve it so it can be better. Like myself I was going to just do a circular shape and add lines in the inside but I did not like it so I changed it and made my work better. This work fits into series or longer body of work because everything starts of small to be greater. Certain techniques are important to the work because that’s what helps the work be better, not just average. A new technique I learned was not to but a lots of paint on the plate to create a new one just with a drop of the paint it’s good enough to create a new one.

One point perspective

Wake up succeed in life repeat.

The backstory to my six word memoir it that everyday we wake up but never really wake up with the right mentality. So my six word memoir is to motivate you to want to wake up succeed in life that and then just keep repeating everyday. Ex: What makes me wanna wake up everyday and succeed then repeat it is to help my mother be successful by motivating her. The things that relate to my 6 word memoir are the bed and the alarm clock because the bed helps me rest so the alarm clock can help wake up in the morning to succeed in life then repeat the next day and so on. Also looking at my room all fancy motivates me to get up and work for more.

Street Art

Posted by Daniel Baez in ART 9 - Hertz - e1 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 9:01 am
The meaning of my work is that it was supposed to be 3D and mess with your mind. But as you can see I did no meet expectations. But I worked on it trying to make it 3D but did not come out as planned. But the meaning of my work was to mess with your mind with the 3D illusion.
What inspired my work was the other artist that draw 3D optical illusions etc. But seeing their work made me want to try making my own 3D work but it is going to take some times for me to meet does expectations.
I chose that location because I think that's a place where my art won't be bothered and also so people can see it.
This project changed the perception of Art because I did not see street work or paper being hung up with a drawing art, but now I do consider those things art.
Now I know that work I see around me is art.

Daniel Baez online identity

Posted by Daniel Baez in TECH 1 - Hertz - e2 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 7:23 pm
I don't really think I'm a somebody when I'm online but at the same time I'm a somebody when I'm online. I don't really get online as much that's why I think I'm a nobody online but I do use certain apps that deal with my identity online. But when I'm online I watch what I do cause I don't want to do anything that I will regret the next day, because that's how it always is. I don't appear online as much a teen that is obsessed with Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. I like staying more low key. I think that people won't really be able to perceive me because since I don't really have an identity online people aren't able to perceive me, as they would usually perceive someone who's updating things online ll the time. What I consider before posting online is who will see my post; Who would take a screenshot to forward the upload, and how will people few my post. The pros of sharing online is that is way faster, and you don't have to wait 3 days to send a mail and receive one back. It would be an instant thing. But the cons about sharing online are that ones you have posted something online that permanent that that post of thing will stay up online. You're not safe with online. For ex you can post a picture of yourself that looked off the hook but then you realized that you didn't want everybody to see and you take it down someone already took a screenshot and have it on their phones. Lack of control, Permanence, Immediacy have an impact in our life because anything can go wrong in just a second. I think that media background checks should be done because you want to see a preview of the person's life of who you are going to hire to work for you btu at the same time I think that is something that shouldn't be done because what if that's the person's personal page like the person might be different at work and out of work. I personally think that the person should act the same way he acts when his working when he is out of work. Free speech  is when a person is able to say what he or she is thinking freely but some people take an advantage of that and use free speech in a negative way to bully people and be hurtful. The things that are protected are the things you chose to be private but otherwise nothing is protected at a high way. An internet troll is when someone bothers someone just for the fun of it but also they do it to start arguments, post bad things to offend you. Say of topic things negatively, etc. The goals of internet troll is to upset the other person to a point where they want to do something stupid or to embarrass them. We can stop trolling by going to court and speaking about the way people use internet to troll people to a point where they might want to d something horrible. The pros of posting anonymously is that people won't know where and who the posting came from from so your identity online won't get messed up. The cons of posting anonymously is that there's no point of posting because you aren't going to get as much like because people won't know where the post is coming from and fro who.
Don't do anything that you'll regret the next day.
Think before you act upon your post.
And be sure that you want to post before you post.
