Q2 Littering Benchmark

Posted by Alexander Delgado in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 5:34 pm

In our project, we made a video relating to the littering problem here in philly. We made the video look similar to the recycling promo video on the media, but with some twists that make it funny, interesting and very educative. In the video we talk about how littering affects both the environment and people and everything in between. The reason why we choose littering as a topic was due to us acknowledging the fact that there is a lot of people who litter the streets of Philadelphia. Because of this, we wanted to know just how bad the problem is world wide, how much does it affect people and if there is anything we could do to fix the problem. In the project I contributed by promoting ideas, helping out in the slideshow and questions and also organizing the project overall. In the project I feel i did well in my acting as well as in being able to give proper ideas that were used in the project and video. However, I believe that the most meaningful part of the whole PSA was when we showed the statistics of the problem and showed just how evident this thing happens and how we can do specific actions to stopping the problem.

Q2 Benchmark Littering PSA

Posted by Sarah Sam in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 5:20 pm

I was adamant on picking littering as our topic because I see litter on a daily basis, with no action being taken to solve this issue. I find it absurd how something simple such as picking up after yourselves is such a heavy task for some individuals on this Earth. In fact, around one million birds and 100,00 marine mammals on average die each year because of litter in oceans. With this in mind, our video serves to educate people about littering with providing an example of someone littering and someone correcting that person on it. My part of this group project was majority editing the video. I also played a part in the video and helped write the script. Hopefully, our efforts have shown through our work, but if I had a chance to do things differently, I would condense the video some more. To conclude, I think that this whole project was memorable in figuring out how we wanted to present our PSA that would engage our audience, and more importantly make them want to contribute to defeating littering.

Q2 Benchmark Final Submission: Video and Reflection

Posted by Eloh Smith-McLaurin in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 1:42 pm

The overall of my PSA wasn't to just talk about Gentrification and why it's a bad thing, it was to talk about why I believe people should truly care about gentrification and the effects that it has on those who are having their land gentrified. I tried to also talk about the way that people stop being able to afford the cost of living in these low income areas once newer more wealthy tenants start moving into a certain area.

Water Pollution

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 1:08 pm

After doing research on water pollution I have learned a lot that I didn't know before. In our informational video we touch on what water pollution is and why you should care. Everyone is affected because water effects everything in our atmosphere, it affects the plants, our drinking water and much more. Me and my group all provided vital information when making the project, Jasmin did the editing, Elijah did the script, and I did the filming and video set up. The most meaningful part of the PSA experiment is that we learned new things that we didn't know before and that we made an informative video to share information with our peers. Water pollution can be caused by industrial waste, which can be disposed in the oceans. Causes the waters to not be safe to swim, not be stable for marine wildlife to live etc.

Air Pollution in the U.S

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 1:07 pm

ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05PO_SvY25k
Summary: I came into this project kind of knowing what I wanted to do which made it easy. This topic is something I've been looking into for a while. So I was very comfortable in doing this topic and actually talking about it. Every one played a part in discussing air pollution Samuel talked about the affects Air pollution has on the body. Asaad talked about the laws that are in play or the laws being created to counteract Air Pollution. While I Jy'Aire O'Connor talk about the political views. Everyone approached this topic with open arms because we all have some history with it. How I can contributed to this project you may be asking? Well I threw in the history portion including a well known historical event. Some would argue that this event started the push for clean air. What I could've done more is include some more examples/history. We could've done a little bit better when it came to recording. A take away from this is paying more attention when it comes to air pollution.

PSA for mercury exposure

In our psa we discussed the issues about mercury exposure and what you can do to get it checked out and avoid the effects of it how it
affects your body and what you can do to help solve the issue. chose this topic because I don't know much about the effects of mercury poisoning and what can I do to avoid it so In educating others I educated myself. I contributed to this project by writing half the script, and what I could've done differently was be more supportive in the first checkpoint.

WATER POLLUTION

Posted by Elijah Banks in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:57 pm

After doing this project, i have learned about the effects of water pollution. After having done research, I have learned that there are many things that i did not know. I have come into contact with news involving water pollution, but have never thought much about it. However, after researching, i learned about all the impacts that an event such as an oil spill can cause, such as how hard it is to clean up the spill, the high costs the methods of cleanup take, the effects on the environment, such as destroying the area's marine life, and how it can even affect the livelihood of fishermen that depend on the are for a living. I have also seen how religion and beliefs can pollute the water to a ridiculous extent, endangering people in the process. The rivers have been heavily polluted, with people dumping waste from making leather, untreated sewage into the waters, where some even cremate bodies of the deceased in the river. Despite all this, people still use the water to carry out activities such as bathing. This can endanger the health of the people living on the river as the water would be really dirty, and can make people sick by spreading diseases. I realized from this project that we have to protect and maintain the cleanliness of our water bodies, as they are vital for our survival. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY-pIfY1S2Q&feature=youtu.be

Mercury Exposure

Posted by Chelby Elam in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:51 pm

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_rkOeqrRcw

In our PSA video we talked about Mercury Exposure, we were interested in this topic and chose it because we've never heard about Mercury Exposure before and wanted to learn more about what is it and what it does. I contrubuted in the project by helping with research, editing the video and helping with our script. I think what we could have done differently was make our scipt flow and make a little more ense for our psa. The most meaningful part of this was learning about mercury exposure and the harms it causes.

Oil Spills Q2 environmental science

Posted by Nathan McGill in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:30 pm

My group and I decided to do focus our project of oil spills. Oil spills are not really talked about so we chose this topic in order to bring awareness about the dangers and how it can affect humans. I contributed to the project by helping create a way that we could present this presentation to people. we made a news broadcast and also went around and asked people what they know about oil spills. We did well bringing the whole project together and also managing our time. I do not feel like we needed to change anything. The most meaningful thing about creating this PSA was providing ways to prevent oil spills.

Air Pollution PSA

Posted by Samuel Igiozee in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:28 pm

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05PO_SvY25k Summary: In the beginning of the video, we started the PSA with showing of Donora, PA which is borough that has suffered from air pollution. Next, we transition to segment where I talk about how air pollution is major concern today and how it can damage the body. Then, Asaad talked about the laws that were made in order to prevent a disaster like Donora happen again. Lastly, Jy'aire talked about the politicians haven't fully believed that air pollution doesn't cause disasters. In the final clip of the video, we said that power was yours meaning that the people have power fix the world. We chose this because we feel as though the air pollution isn't taken into much consideration in the world today but we want people to know that air pollution truly does exist and people can die from it. Contribution and Role: How I contribute to this project researching necessary facts about air pollution and recording video for the PSA. When it came to my role in the group, I mostly acted as the videographer in the group but I did help out with the research. What did you do well and what could you have done differently?: We done well with our research gathering and what we could have done differently was the video since it looked a little shaky. Meaningful Part: The most meaningful part of this experience was that the consequences of not facing against air pollution was can be catastrophic to the world that we live in.
