Dylan Wright - Capstone

Posted by Dylan Wright in CTE Senior Capstone Project · Lawrence on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 9:44 am

For my capstone, I decided to create a podcast composed of film reviews. This project aimed to answer the question “How can I learn to give a meaningful critique of movies, that would challenge people to think more critically about the media they engage with?” I started working on it in February. I did one episode every week. First I would watch a film, usually on the weekends, then I would write out some bullet points of things I wanted to talk about. On Wednesday, I would record audio and start editing. I would finish editing and publish the episode on the weekends. I managed to create a total of 16 episodes. They range in length from 6 to 20 minutes. From this project, I learned a bit about audio editing, thought not as much as I would have liked. I also learned a lot about how to think about and critique films. This project also helped me hone my verbal communication skills and taught me to better express my thoughts and feelings.

Dylan Wright - Lead Poisoning PSA

Posted by Dylan Wright in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 5:49 pm

This video talks about how many houses in Philadelphia have lead paint in them. This paint is especially bad for small children and can cause a multitude of negative health effects for them. It then talks about some things that can be done about this, such as people can remove lead paint from houses and there can be new legislation made to stop houses being sold with lead paint or other lead sources in them. I chose this topic because I thought it would be interesting and I was intrigued by the article we read in class about lead poisoning in Philly. I think we did well with compiling overall information, I feel we could probably have done better with time management. The most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA was learning about the different ways lead poisoning could be stopped because it seems like it would be a difficult thing to do something about but some of the solutions are actually quite simple.

Dylan Wright - Global Water Crisis

Posted by Dylan Wright in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · A on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 8:41 am

What stood out to me was the sheer amount of water pollution in India. I had also never considered that a water crisis could disproportionately affect women but apparently, it does. I am wondering about other ways certain groups could be disproportionately affected by water crises. The global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because it deals with equal access to resources and some people don’t have the same access to water as others,
