Electric Art Project

Posted by Joelle Putro in Physics · Gray · A on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 8:26 am

I chose a tree for my sculpture because it represents growth. Over the past few years I have grown a lot as a person and I thought that this was a good representation of that. Trees lose their leaves during the winter but when the weather gets nice again they grow back. This represents how sometimes I have bad days but always grow and learn from them. Trees are very strong and so am I so I wanted to show that through my sculpture.

My name is Joelle Putro and for my project I did graphic design. I did a traffic sign that targets poached animals. I really like animals so I wanted to stop them from being killed. This sign is supposed to tell animals that poachers are ahead and to turn around. I also want it to raise awareness on poaching. My project was very successful. I had fun making it because I got to look at many picture of animals. I also enjoy using Pixlr and figuring out new ways to use it. My sign came out exactly how I wanted it to.

5-7
For this project I did image editing. I chose to use Pixlr because it is very similar to photoshop. I did this project around the holidays. I wanted to spread awareness of homeless people feeling left out during the holidays. I was hoping for this photo to inspire people to treat homeless people better. I think my project was successful. It is very similar to what I had in mind.

8-10
I chose to revise this project because I felt like I could add more meaning to it in some way. I decided to add more highly poached animals on the sign. By doing this I felt like it would strike more emotion in people if they see an animal on there that they really like. To do this I had to go into pixlr and make the photos of the animals transparent and merge them with my sign. After doing this I raised the brightness and contrast a bit to make the sign more eye catching.

11-13
In this class my high points include time management and problem solving. While working on these projects, we got assigned checkpoints every week. These checkpoints help me keep up with my projects. I think without these checkpoints I would not have managed my time as good as I did. Problem solving was another high point because I ran into some problems while editing my photos. I taught myself how to use pixlr by watching videos and reading articles on websites.
An area of growth for me is being on time to class. Being late will affect my grade and I will not have time to work on my project. This inspired me to be on time more. I have learned skills such as image editing that I can use outside of this class. I do photography outside of school and pixlr can help me edit my photos.

14-17
An idea that I have for next year’s class is similar to the image editing project that we did. It would be different because we would be taking our own photos. The assignment would be to go out and take our own photos and edit them. I think this is a good idea because I enjoy photography and I think it gives students more room to express themselves. A tip that I have for anyone taking this class is to manage your time. This class is very face paced and you have to use your class time wisely. DO not waste time playing around in class because it will affect your grade. It will also affect the outcome of your final project if you wait until last minute. Another tip I have for people taking this class is to not hold back on your ideas. If you have a good idea but you are not sure about what others will think of it, go through with it. This is your project and a chance for you to express yourself. Don’t be too concerned about what other people think of your ideas. The last tip I have for anyone taking this class is to not give up. If you are working on a project and lose motivation or don’t understand how to do something, keep going. There are many times during these projects where I have faced issues but I figured them out. After finishing the projects I was happy that I did not give up because the outcomes were even better knowing that I got through them issues. Solving problems and figuring out how to use different web programs is very important.

Road sign for animals

Posted by Joelle Putro in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 9:06 am
For this quarter I chose to do graphic design. I felt like it would be a bit similar to image editing which is what I did last time. For my project I did a road sign for animals. I really like animals and in some places poaching is a big issue. The point of my road sign is to warn animals that there are dangerous poachers ahead and to turn around.  I used pixlr to make my road sign. I made a pentagon and used the color fill tool to make it bright yellow. I used the text tool and wrote “watch out for humans” on the sign. I’m not sure if animals can read but for my project just assume that they can. I added photos of commonly poached animals to my sign and blood splatters. I overlayed these photos. Finally I made my sign transparent. I did this by cutting out the sign and adding a background and clicking transparent. It was a bit difficult figuring out how to make the background transparent but after watching some videos I figured it out. During this project I learned that I am good at asking questions and problem solving when I am stuck. This project has actually inspired me to spread awareness about poaching and it is surprising the amount of people that are not aware of this issue. I love using pixlr and it is very simple to use for the most part.

Joelle Putro

Image editing project

1/6/17

My project is image editing. It’s a photo of a homeless woman staring at a Christmas gift. It is suppose to symbolize how homeless people have a hard time around the holidays.

I got a picture of a homeless woman and a picture of a Christmas gift. I cut out the Christmas gift and merged it into the photo of the homeless woman. Then i put a filter on the photo to make it all the same color.

I was confused on how to merge the photos at first but then I watched a tutorial and figured it out. Using the tutorials I learned how to merge photos and work using pixlr.

I also learned that I’m good at figuring things out using the resources I have and I don’t get frustrated easily.

If I were to do this project over I would add more to it and give it more meaning and depth.

The advice I would give to people that are going to attempt this project is to watch tutorials when they get stuck. This project inspired me to merge more photos to spread awareness of issues. It gets the point across in a creative way.

The photos I used were non copyright. Pixlr made it very easy for me to get my point across and after watching tutorials it was very simple to use. It allowed me to merge the photos and make it look like the gift was really in the photo.
