Heart Disease and Stroke PSA

Posted by Patience Elliott in Anatomy and Physiology · Aziz · D on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 3:35 pm

My video includes an interview, a skit and some portions of the video are facts that relate to interview. The skit was chosen because it gave our video something that wasn’t just straight facts. We chose to put the facts in the video because they related to the topics that our interview person brung up. We did not choose this topic it was given to us.

In the group I found the person to interview made contact with her. I set up the interview. I helped design questions and the order in which we asked them. I also helped to gather some facts. I contributed well to my group. I could have done better with communication with my group members. The thing that really made proud about this project is how it came full circle. We asked questions that we could relate back to our lives. The best thing about the PSA was how it was relatable. So many things go into public health, such as, race, identity, geography, politics and sociology.

During Senior Capstone Project, I redesigned a geometry project assignment for sixth graders. To begin, I took a project that was originally made for tenth-grade geometry students and modified it so that it would be suitable for a sixth-grade classroom. The project was about designing their own homes and calculating the measurements for the structures. I then contacted Samuel Gompers School to determine if they would be interested in being my host school. When I contacted the principal, he put me in contact with the teacher that I would begin to work with, Mr. Neal. Mr. Neal chose the class that I would work with, and I began to introduce the project to the students. I worked with a class of about 30 students. In the beginning, I reviewed perimeter, area, and conversions with them. The students responded well, and they were excited about the project. I taught the class every Wednesday at 1:45 pm, and I stayed until the end of the school day. I made a list of dates that I would follow in order to get this project done on time. I did not take into account the times that they would be testing for PSSAs and when we would have spring break. Not taking this into account really set me back, and I had to go to the class Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in order to meet the deadlines. I finished the project and had the students present, and we had a party on the last day.

Election Volunteering: Committee of Seventy

Posted by Patience Elliott in AMERICAN HISTORY - Hussey - E on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 9:44 pm

My experience with election volunteering was for the most part a positive one. I did encounter a few resistant participants, but my group and I made the day fun and original.

I volunteered in West Philadelphia around the Drexel campus area. There were not a lot of people out voting at the time. However, the people that did come out to vote were supportive of what we were doing. When we needed to ask people questions most of them stopped and were willing to answer them. There were five questions total, but they were worded in a difficult way. Often times we found ourselves rephrasing the question for people to understand. I believe next time in order to make this more successful the questions should be worded simpler. They should be worded differently for people that do not have a very extensive background in politics.

Another thing that may have made this experience better is going at a later time. I think it should be at a later time because a lot of people are at work at the time that we were out there which was 9AM to 1PM. This may help get a better poll outcome on the survey.

Being involved in Election Day in Philadelphia was an original experience. My group and I encountered a variety of people. Some that were willing to speak to us and some that were not. The ones were not willing to speak to us mainly had to go to work or something else important. The ones that did speak to us were pleasant people to encounter. One guy, in particular, gave us a lot of things to think about as far as our next time coming out. He told us that we should get involved in this process earlier than election day. I do agree with him. We were taught extensively about politics, but more hands on work would be good.

Overall, this experience was an enlightening. I will be going out to vote the first year I am eligible to. Also, since Election Day I have urged the adults in my life to get out and vote!

Below are some sample ballots and a group photo:

Viajar Presentation
During this travel project were required to research how it would be to take a trip to any Spanish speaking country. We had to plan out an itinerary for 5, 7, and 9 days. We had to make a commercial, powerpoint and brochure for this trip. It was a very long process. However after the end I was happy to see it all come together so nicely. This project had to be realistic and well researched.

La Poesia project was a project where we had to research a Hispanic poet and write poem that was like a poem that that poet wrote. We also had to write an autobiography about ourselves. I enjoyed this project because there was a lot of room to express our creative abilities. I did not think that I could write poems that well however, I did well on the project. I was very proud of my performance and poem writing.

Las Noticias

LasNoticias
"Las Noticias" was a project that we had to make a news cast for. This broadcast had to be completely accurate and 10 minutes long. We could not just make things up. We had to research each topic and use up to date information. The topics that had to be covered included; weather, anchors, health, breaking news, and fashion. I enjoyed this project there were a lot of approaches you could have taken to this project.

Conversational Powerpoint

Conversational PPT
The conversational powerpoint was a project that we were assigned to display our knowledge of ser/estar and basic conversation. This project was not as difficult as some of the others. We were able to create conversations about anything that we chose. That is what made this project so much easier than theirs.

ChildrensBook
This project was a really fun project. We were required to make a children's book that was at least 10 pages long front and back. We had to make it fun and appeal to a child. It had to be about a sickness. I enjoyed this project.

Día de los muertos

Euology
Día de los muertos was my favorite project so far! This was my favorite because we were able to display our creativeness fully. In this project we were required to decorate a sugar skull and a mask. We then had to explain why we chose to decorate those thing the way we did. We had to write a eulogy in Spanish in remembrance of the person we chose to focus our project on. I chose my Aunt Eunice, even though I did not know her.
