Markeera McIntosh

My is Markeera Mcintosh, and I am a senior at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber. My intended major for college is forensic science, but I always had an interest in interior design. For my senior capstone, I decided to pick a project that involved interior design. My capstone was to redesign the senior cafe. This was a project I did with another senior named JaVon Michaels. The goal of our project was to create a positive environment where the senior class of 2018 will be able to complete work, enjoy a healthy lunch and create valuable memories together. The senior cafe theme was voted by the senior class of 2017 to be a teen lounge, incorporating the school colors which are blue, white, and gray. With working during lunch, free periods, and stay long hour afters after school the room was a complete success. The students of SLA at Beeber was very active in making sure this project was a success by supporting the fundraisers. The fundraisers we had was ice cream sale with over 3 flavors and 4 toppings, we also had pizza sales, and another was an ice cream and waffle sale. The new redesigned senior cafe is in honor of the senior class of 2017 who is the first graduating class of Science Leadership Academy at Beeber. The cafe allowed many seniors to place their handprints on the wall with a signature to symbolize leaving their mark. JaVon and I will like to take the time out the say thank you to all that supported our goal and helped us make the senior cafe a success.

Elizabeth Cauvin Capstone

Posted by Elizabeth Cauvin in Capstone on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:16 pm

Welcome to Haiti. My name is Elizabeth. I am a young Haitian-American lady. For my capstone, I decided to do something that will help me figure myself out as an individual. I also did this because I wanted to broaden up my knowledge about my culture. I was not born in Haiti, but my father decided to relocate himself to the United States to start a new life for my mother and her two sons at the time. After a year a two without the love of his life, my father was stable enough to bring his wife and two sons to America, so that they can get the better education and opportunities they deserve. Being as though, I was not born in Haiti I wanted to do something that will better help me connect with my culture other than speaking the language, creole, frequently. There are two parts to this capstone, the first part is a research paper on the country Haiti and my father’s journey to America. The second part is the mini course I taught. In my mini-course, “Welcome to Haiti”, I taught the students games that my parents would play as a child, I taught them basic conversations and numbers 1-10 in Creole and had them listen to Haitian music.

Imani Mumin Capstone

The focus of our capstone is to create a book house that we will put books on that will be open to the public for younger children who likes to read but doesn’t have a way of getting a book or affording one. The learning goal is to help create a way to help student is neighborhoods that we live in perform better as students. We feel like this project will help them to be on the right track when it comes to school. Studies show that student that live in low-income neighborhoods are less likely to graduate high school. No we cannot change the fact that the children around us in low-income neighborhoods but we can do something to help the graduation rate increase. We chose to do a book drive so that people can help us get books for kids to read to put in our book house. We also donated some of our own from books we had when we were younger. We will leave our book house open to the public so that kids can feel free to grab a book of their choice to read whenever that feel like it. Although this is just a senior project the idea doesn’t stop here because we will continue to put more books for our book house after we graduate to continue to help these kids. This project will not only help kids but touch base on their everyday lives and we proud to have create this project.
