Reflection

  1. The importance of biodiversity is evident in the way that the sustainability of the environment is dependent on it since everything balances something out in some way.
  2. Human actions associated with altering earth systems is making conscious decisions to help our environment such as not catching a certain species of fish to allow them to repopulate, or changing their source of power to allow for less carbon emissions (I.e. solar power, hydropower, wind turbines, etc.)
  3. People can learn to live more sustainably by staying educated and doing research on the current state of the environment to know if they need to change power sources

  4. This project helped me understand sustainability in the way that it isn’t only inanimate resources, but the sustainability of an industry is also determined by the workers and the working conditions.

  5. What surprised me most about the clothing/fast fashion industry was the extent of the harsh working conditions and the lack of fair pay
  6. In this group project I shot and edited the video for the slides. I was proud of the way it turned out, and the way that we were able to figure out something for the physical model before the presentation.

Reanna C. Q3 Benchmark Reflection

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?

The biodiversity and natural resources of the Earth are valuable because they provide crucial services like clean air and water, support people’s livelihoods, enrich our cultures, and offer opportunities for scientific exploration.

What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems?

Human actions such as deforestation, pollution, habitat destruction, introduction of invasive species, and climate change are altering Earth’s natural systems.

How can individuals, communities, and or nations live more sustainably? People, communities, and countries can live more sustainably by encouraging responsible consumption, resource conservation, support for renewable energy, waste reduction, preservation of natural habitats, and advocacy for sustainable policies.

How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability? This project opened my eyes to a topic that I didn’t have any prior knowledge about and made us think creatively about how we can build a brand that is sustainable toward the environment.

What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why? One surprising thing about sustainable technology like windmills is the rapid advancement and innovation in their design and efficiency.

How did you contribute to your group’s project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of in terms of your overall project? I contributed to the information on the slides about our company logo, why we are sustainable, and assistants on the physical model.

Jules Q3 Benchmark Reflection

-What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth?

They provide clean air, water, food and things like that. We wouldn’t be able to live without them. They also support the ecosystems that are on the Earth.

-What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems?

We do things like deforestation, pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and contribute to climate change. This interrupts the wildlife and natural cycles of the Earth.

-How can individuals, communities and or nations live more sustainably?

We can recycle, turn off electricity and water when we aren’t using it, use public transportation, take shorter showers, and plant trees.

What value do we see in the biodiversity and natural resources of the earth? - Biodiversity is so valuable because without biodiversity life on earth would be almost nonexistent because all the different earthly processes could not be carried out. What human actions are associated with altering earth’s natural systems? - deforestation, incorrect fishing methods, pollution etc are associated with altered earth systems. How can individuals, communities and or nations live more sustainably? - Lower greenhouse gas emissions, eat sustainably, use less electricity, recycle, drive less How did this project deepen your understanding of sustainability? - Having to find sustainable sources for everything deepened my knowledge of sustainability because it showed me how easy and how many solutions there are to moving to a more sustainable life. Also, having to look deeply into where everyday items come from really showed me how unsustainable our society is. What information about your chosen industry surprised you most? Why? - I was very surprised that so much wood is put to waste when making furniture, I would think that a lot would be used because of how much furniture is made. How did you contribute to your groups project? Provide specific examples. What were you proud of, in terms of your overall project? - Acting as a creative leader for the group, allowing peers to add and subtract to our vision, efficiently executing the vision of our group, and making room for all present groupmates to pitch their ideas. I also, filmed and edited our commercial in full.

A Reflection Answering the Essential Questions How do the earth’s systems affect each other?

On some earths, semesters can influence many different things that involve the health and things that are happening to the earth. Such as how the the weather and the hydrosphere interact with each other which can make bigger rain storms and larger ocean tides.

How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

Because with having the knowledge of environmental science you can learn and know why disasters occur and how. Also, how does it affect the environment and earth?

Hurricanes

Posted by Kayla Strickland in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · D on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 11:31 pm

Hurricane affects the earth’s systems in the way that it keeps the global temperature in check (warm and cool air). On the flip side, it can cause coastal erosion (geosphere) due to the surge of water.

Understanding environmental science can help you handle natural disasters by knowing what causes them so you can be aware if one is likely to come. Being informed about your environment can also help you take steps that will aid the community’s recovery after the onset of a natural disaster.

Joseph- Natural disasters

This was our presentation:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1pnu9RZVrF-D-NMaNU8u7vI2TpHGewMG6b0W6597mzho/edit?usp=sharing

The earth systems affect each other in tsunamis by creating earthquakes in the geosphere, creating a tsunami in the hydrosphere, then affecting animal and plant life in the affected areas in the biosphere. My personal findings weren’t anything I didn’t necessarily expect, but are still interesting to know for sure
