Internet and You

Slide 1: Your post online effects you because people would know you for the type of post that you post up and your name could be bad or good. For example, if you post rude comments or pictures, than people would take you to be a rude person and jobs might not want that type of people at their job.

Slide 2: Your post online also effects others because you represent you family so what ever you do has an impact on your family because people are to say oh that the lady son. Also the post you put up could effect the person that it is about because it could cause a death or worse for them to do to there self or others that participated in the post about them.

Slide 3: Thinking before you post something is important cause you could want to post or share something very mean or bad about a person but see how it will effect you in the future. Also how would you feel if this was going to be posted about you and shared.

If you look me up you won’t find me on any social media or anything like that. If I did use social media I would want to appear funny, nice, fun to be around. Before I would post anything I would think about whether or not it is inappropriate or if it would offend anyone and will it hurt my reputation. The pros of sharing stuff online is it can be viewed immediately and a con is that once it’s online it’s there forever. Lack of Control, Permanence, and Immediacy can affect your reputation. Lacking in control can lead to you posting things online that are inappropriate or offensive to others. Permanence means anything you post online will most likely stay there forever and spread around. Immediacy means as soon as you press enter your post is on the internet immediately. I think employers are entitled to look you up on social media so they know what type of person they could potentially be hiring because the person you are in the interview and the person you are on social media could be two different people. Free speech is the ability to speak what’s on your mind. Free speech does not protect libel, fighting words, slander, and obscenity. It protects everything besides the previously mentioned items. An internet troll is someone who gets entertainment by starting arguments and making hurtful comments on forums. They are considered sadists. The goals of internet trolls are to annoy people online because they get a sadistic kick out of it. One way to stop trolling is to just ignore them and they will most likely go away. The pros of posting anonymously online is that people don’t know who you are.

3 Tips for Posting Online:

  • Be mindful about what you post online.

  • Don’t be an internet troll or a cyberbully.

  • Be yourself.

Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Kevin Westerfer in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 2:05 pm

Online, I am known as a gamer, when you look up my name, there isn’t really anything there. But if you look up my username, you find a lot more stuff, from accounts on sites to videos on YouTube. I think people perceive me as a gamer (a bad one), based on the types of things that you would see when you look me up, I collaborate on many of my friends YouTube channels, doing gaming related content, I play games competitively and if people like how I play they can friend me and check out my profile. I don’t really consider much, considering that I don’t really post much of anything. It doesn’t really come to me to think “am what I posting going to offend somebody?” I mainly don’t think about that because I really don’t care what people think of because at my age I’m not looking for a professional job, and no company is going to be judging my teenager life 10 years from now. One pro to sharing things online is that everybody that you wanted to show that thing to, you did. Sharing things online makes it easier to show a group of people, and with the comment section, you can discuss the thing you shared. One con is that you might be sending it to too many people, while you might find something funny, others might not. Especially if what you are sharing is a joke that involves race/ethnicity in it. Lack of control is a big part of sharing things, while you were the one sending the picture or message, after you send it, it’s out of your hands. Anybody can screenshot it or they can say terrible things about you or people in the photo in the comments section. Permanence might relate to how online we are unchanged on the internet. A big controversy at the moment is background checks over the internet. In my opinion, I think that background checks are unnecessary and I think that employers should see how the employee acts and how they are in their job interview.

Free speech is told in the first amendment. “The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition.”  A troll is a person who is trying to ruin the fun and joy of others by annoying them or ruining what they’re doing. If you are in a game, a troll can deliberately kill you just to get a reaction out of you.

The goals of trolls is to make you upset, annoyed, mad, to get any reaction out of it for their own personal amusement. It makes them happy to see others in pain. That’s why many people call them sadists. The only way we can stop trolling is if we ignore it, all we have to do is not give them the reaction that they want. If we do that then they will stop because they won’t be having their fun.  There are a couple pros and cons of posting anonymously online. Some pros are that others don’t know who you are. You can voice your opinions without others knowing who you are and starting up a whole scene with your face on the front of the stories. A con is that people cannot find you online and if you have any accomplishments, they won’t be cherished on the internet. Here are three tips to surviving on social media. First, you should never post when you are flustered. You do things that you wouldn’t do normally and it can cause some problems. Second, make sure to think about the groups you join. Don’t join many groups as a joke or for a laugh, because many people could take it the wrong way. And third, don’t have an opinion! No matter what you say on the internet, people will fight you, so it is best to just not show your opinion off to everybody.

Online I am Josh myself and let other’s know how am or how I act in person. Acting the way I act online lets others know that I am a very nice and fun person. Also that I am a very safe and intelligent person who always have thoughts on something. So before I post stuff, I think about the effects it would have on me and others. Sharing online can get you famous online and can also get you in trouble with others or the law. So if you help yourself of posting of mean things about others, it can leave with no friends and a bad name for you and your family. To me I think that soical media checks is important for people you think about hiring because if you find out that they aren’t the same persin they are online it can change and tel alot about them. Now free speech lets you express yourself to others and let them know how you feel about something. Aninternet troll is fake accouncts that people hack into other people pages to say mean things and to get on their nerves. The pros of posting unknown is that nobody knows who you are. A con is that it means that people can say mean and very rude things and get away with it.

Josh's declassified social media survival guide

Posted by Joshua Bowers in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 1:57 pm

My username is josh.bowers_ And I look the same as the real Josh bowers. I post things that I care about not what's popular. I think people see me online as the the same as Josh IRL. When i'm posting something I think about my sister and my cousins and what would happen if they saw it. Some pros about posting online is that you can reach more people in a shorter amount of time a con would be that you have to censor yourself a bit. When you post something you should think anyone can screenshot it and hold it against you and one you post something you can never get it back.  I think that employers should do background checks but they should not only rely on their social media. Free speech is not doing what ever you want to say. A internet troll is a person who wants to get reaction out of you so they try to hit you where it hurts. You can stop trolls by just not giving them a reaction. Pros of posting anonymously no one knows who you are and a con would be that you can't connect with your friend as easily. My first tip would be if someone is bothering you just ignore them and block them another tip would be don’t spam people, and don't post musically videos.
