Shaiann DesVignes Capstone

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Senior Capstone · Bentum · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 12:54 pm

My capstone is “How is music connected to memory?(High school experience)” My main goal, while doing my capstone was to see what connections could I make using music and my peers around me. I had two main agendas: Too see how music is connected to memory Also to conduct a social experiment to see what specific songs are connected to  specific high school experiences. I hope to learn how others in my age group cop with emotional feelings through their music choices. This project will enable me to talk to a vast amount of students at SLA that I was unable to talk to before. By the end of this project I hope to spark some ideas within my community about music and making musical connections. My process was: Identifying what I wanted my goal to be. Identifying what kind of social experiment I can conduct to help my topic. I researched what I wanted to ask people, and how I was going to ask them(my approach). Finding out what I wanted my final to be (playlists/posters), and actually conducting the project. My product was playlists for 3 moods, and posters that I put around the school to spread awareness about the playlist.  I learned more about my peers and more about what specific songs do for people, and how it connects to experiences and memories.

Water Pollution

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 1:08 pm
After doing research on water pollution I have learned a lot that I didn't know before. In our informational video we touch on what water pollution is and why you should care. Everyone is affected because water effects everything in our atmosphere, it affects the plants, our drinking water and much more. Me and my group all provided vital information when making the project, Jasmin did the editing, Elijah did the script, and I did the filming and video set up. The most meaningful part of the PSA experiment is that we learned new things that we didn't know before and that we made an informative video to share information with our peers. Water pollution can be caused by industrial waste, which can be disposed in the oceans. Causes the waters to not be safe to swim, not be stable for marine wildlife to live etc.

Brevity Lathers

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 10:39 pm

The industry that me and my group did was the fashion industry. We chose to do it because we all love clothes, and dressing up and looking nice. Sustainability is everything we need for and well-being and also create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist together. Our industry is sustainable because when it comes to fashion people can maintain what material feels right for them such as some people do only like clothes made out of cotton and some only like their clothes made out of wool. To sustain our business we will assign each other roles to keep everything intact. To lower the eco-footprint of the business we will wash and dry our clothes less .

Natural Disasters: Floods

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 5:58 pm
when floods occur you can find a slight change of the humidity as the atmosphere absorbs water from floods making more air mass as well as increase the evaporation in the atmosphere. Floods affect the biosphere too, because when it floods it alters and destroys the environment and habitats. Floods affect the hydrosphere by changing and destroying rivers and lakes. Floods do not affect the lithosphere. If you have knowledge in environmental studies it could you by being able to figure out how to inform people on the subject. We can introduce better systems to prevent floods and other natural disasters.

Fast Plants Final Reflection

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:52 am
I noticed that
  • We had only 3 baby seeds out of all of our pods

  • We adopted seeds from other groups

  • Added soil and fertilizer

  • Planted 2 (YG and B) baby seeds in each pod

  • Covered in more soil

  • Plants range in length from 3 ½ cm to 8 cm

  • 3 of the stems are becoming purples

  • 4 stems are a very light green

  • 13 of the leaves look rigid

  • 14 of the leaves are rounded

  • Biotic factors: other plants, bacteria, plants themselves

This is categorized like this because bacteria and plants are living organisms. The bacteria in the air could affect how our plants grow. Our peers’ plants could interfere with our plants because they could rub against each other. Our plants could rub against each other which could take off some leaves or flowers. Abiotic factors: artificial “sunlight”, temperature, soil, air we categorized the abiotic factors in this way because we are using are artificial “sunlight” to help our plants grow. It could be possible that the light could blow out. The temperature could change depending on the light or the room. The room could be hot or cold if the windows are open. The soil is a factor because we don’t know what’s included in the soil. Lastly the air, because it may be certain particles throughout the air that could affect the plants. We predicted that the F1 and F2 plants are going to be the phenotypes and genotypes for our baby plants. Since both of are parents were yellow green leaf, homozygous and heterozygous, their kids were more than likely going to produce yellow green leaf babies as well. This cycle continued on since we didn’t have a variation of the parents. One thing that could have effected our plant process was lack of light, because a lot of people in my class plants were dying because they did not have enough light to grow so they were drying out.

For my drawing I drew something that was close to home. I drew a big S which stands for my name Shaiann. Then I have logos, words, pictures, flags and other things that represents me as a person surrounding the S. I choose to draw this because I thought it would be a great representation of myself without saying or doing to much. ASAP mob is a logo I put on there because ASAP is a rap group that I really like, mostly for their style but the also make great music too. I put a Trinidadian flag on the S as well because I’m Trinidadian and I love my culture so much from the foods, to the music is just amazing. I also have sayings logos that represent my favorite rappers because they have a big influence on me not just there music but the morals that they carry. I drew it with pencil then went and colored it in with color pencils, just because it was easier and I didnt want to ruin the picture with paint. For my slideshow we did previously I researched Jean Michel Basquiat, because I really liked his artwork, and his story to fame. So I decided to get inspiration from him and apply it to my artwork. So that's where the bold colors came from, the cludring of pictures, all drew inspiration from his artwork.

During the ecology benchmark, I learned a lot. It was quite fun putting a visual representation of a rain forest.  The main point that I learned throughout this benchmark was the food webs, and putting them together. It was interesting to see what ate what and what fungi's where in the food chains as well. When creating this visual representation of the rain forest we did a before and after on threads of the rain Forest.

limited palette

For my art project I did the limited palette project. I choose up to 5 colors and from those five colors I can only use them for my whole project. I could mix them together, or use them by themselves but I had to use my choice of colors. My portrait is a painting of a black woman's silhouette. The portrait t shows her neck up, so her dark brown hair with her bold red lips. I didn't draw any eyes or nose of that nature.I believe that one of the notable features of a black women is her hair and lips. I just wanted my portrait to communicate the black culture. I used acrylic paints colors including: brown, pink, purple, and white. I also used a mixing palette and a palette knife to help me mix all of my colors together. I did my painting on a piece of cardboard. Now looking back on it I wish I used canvas because I predict that it would have looked better. One of the most important technique of this project was mixing for me. I had to thoroughly go in and use my palette knife to mix my colors together to create a new color. If I could change one thing about my project I would change one of my colors which is purple. I really didn't use it as much in my painting. In conclusion I really did enjoy doing this project it was really fun and studying when I was mixing the paints together.

Portrait project

I drew a picture of A$AP Rocky, because I really love his music and his fashion sense. He really knows how to dress, and he puts a lot of effort and time in his music. I drew the Vlone symbol behind him, because that’s his fashion brand that him and his crew made. Also I drew the A$AP sign behind him because he is affiliated with a mob, pertaining to music. His mob is called “A$AP Mob”, and everyone in the mob artist name starts with A$AP. The picture that I drew of him was a portrait of him with a suit and glasses on. I want my work to communicate to people that A$AP is for the culture, because the name alone stands for itself. It represents music, fashion, a group, and Harlem culture. Rocky is a very well respected person in the music and fashion industry for his hard work and dedication to both arts. It represents current culture because his name is a household name when culture or this generation comes up in conversation. I used a charcoal pencil, a thin sharpie pen, water color paint, and carbon paper. I used the Carbon paper to transfer my image to my final paper, I used the charcoal pencil to add detail to my image after I used watercolor paint. I mostly used it for that hair and the suit. I used the thin sharpie pen to also add more detail but I used the fine one so I can really get percist lines. I used the watercolor paints to add a thin layer of color to my drawing, I also used it to make his perfect skin tone by adding different colors around his face to show shading. For example I would use the brown paint then dilute it in water so its light, then use the same brown without water to use it around his jaw line to show darkness around his neck. I also used whites, purples around the face and around the braids to show multiple dimensions around the image. This project relates to my previous work because I always used watercolor paints when painting, so i'm accustomed to using them on my drawings. I first did my light sketch in my sketchbook, then I transferred it to my final paper. Out lined the lines a little darker to help me when i paint. I then painted and let it dry until the next class. After that that's when I went in with my charcoal and sharpie pencil/pen to help me add more details to my drawing. My work is similar to  Jean Basquiat, because it's crazy colors, with dark outlines, and confusion lingering around my art. Link  My special technique that I used was the charcoal pencil, because that really saved my work from being dull from the paint, it helped me add detail. Something new that I used in this project is the kneaded eraser, it help me erase the mistakes I made with the charcoal pencil.  I most proud of my sketch I did of his face, because I had a lot of detail and got the shapes right in my drawing. One thing that I would change is his glasses, one of his lens is bigger than the other one I noticed after everything was done. I learned about different materials in the process, and I also learned the different uses of each brush.

One point Perspective Project

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:08 am

6 word  memoir

They all say the same thing

 Backstory

Everybody says and thinks the same thing, when it comes to their everyday life.  Sometimes I feel abnormal, because sometimes I don't agree with their actions, music, or beliefs. A lot of people listen to the same music, watch the same shows, talk about the same thing, and believe the same thing. I mean there is nothing wrong with that, but there is nothing wrong with having  a different mindset on the world. That's what I'm learning right now.  Example, I have a different taste in music, it's a lot different from my friends. There is this one artist that I like, I play him for my friends all the time. They don't like him they think he is corny. I used to listen to them and follow the crowd, by listening to the same music they listen too. But I had to realize I don't like that type of music, and there is nothing wrong with the music I like. It's good to be different, you never get bored.

In my room I have music influence/items located all over my room. In my chair, there are a stack of CD’s, there is also CD’s scattered around the room. I have a big poster on the ceiling, and another poster on the left wall. On the ceiling there's also music lines/notes. Music has a big influence on my life, that's why i choose this concept.

For the 4th quarter benchmark, Jada and I decided to light up a phone case. The phone case was simple and small and it represented our phones which played a role in our everyday lives. We use our phones everyday and the different apps we use on it express us both as individuals.

Street Art

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in ART 9 - Hertz - a1 on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 5:52 pm
The meaning behind my picture was to tell everyone to love their curls/Natural Hair. Not a lot of people appreciate their natural hair state, so I wanted them to embrace it. My natural hair inspired my work, because at a point in time I didn't like my natural hair,  but now I LOVE it. I choose to put my picture below the stairway 4 sign. I choose to put it their because I felt like a lot of people would see it more because everyone uses those stairs. This project changed my perspective on art because I realized its much  bigger than just bold colors, and cool designs, it much more than that, its expressing yourself. It changed my perspective on art I see around the city because now I think about what did that person want to show me with that piece? Or, what does this piece stand for? Now I ask questions.

Social Media Survival Guide

Posted by Shaiann Desvignes in TECH 1 - Hertz - a2 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 1:46 pm

ShaiAnn DesVignes

I am a nobody online, just old presentations and a 1 week old made pinterest, with one post. The reason why I say I’m a nobody is because I have nothing or anything that anyone is interested in. My appearance online is whatever the person watching interprets of me.  I think people might perceive me of a nobody on the internet. I say this because no one will be be interested in my appearance online.  I consider if this content is appropriate for my family to see, and if I don't think i want them to see it, I consider taking it down.

The pros of sharing online is getting your content out to the social world for them to see. If they like it they will keep sharing your content, but that can also be a con. A con is if you share something to with your  friends that you only want them to see it but then everyone see’s it.

Lack of control, permanence, and immediacy  has an impact  on our online lives because immediacy means when we put something up it goes up right away. Permanence is when you only give some people permission to view your contact. Lack of control means you do not know how to control the content you put online.

These things can destroy your online reputation because once your content is up it makes it hard for you to take your things down.   I think it's ok for companies to do background because they need to know what their potential employe is like. You don't want to hire someone as a teacher and then their a registered child molester.

Free speech is when you are allowed to say what you want without restrictions. What protected is anything that is giving you knowledge, or appropriate content. What is not protected is anything that is offensive to  anyone regarding their life.

An internet troll is someone who is messing with someone constantly to get a reaction out of them online. We can stop trolling by not even entertaining them just ignore them and they will stop. Pros of posting anonymously is that things wont be traced back to you. Also that you don't have your name floating around with things you don't want to claim. I don't think there is any cons for posting anonymously. My 3 tips for you online is  ~post appropriate things, stay away from internet trolls, also be aware of what you post online.
