Alicia Nelson, Kashia Bumpess Capstone

Posted by Alicia Nelson in Capstone on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 12:35 am
For our Capstone project, I thought it would only be right if I focus on animals because I am going to college to be a veterinary nurse and Kashia believes animals should have an equal opportunity to a good life just like us. For our project, we decided to challenge the concept that zoos aren’t good for animals by making a video to help people really look at how zoos make animals feel. We assume that since animals cannot talk we know what’s best for them and can make decisions for them. That is incorrect. Animals come from a different world than we do and have their own lives to live.
We cannot put them in any environment to help accommodate for what we want all the time. That is why Kashia and I went to our local zoo, the Philadelphia Zoo, to observe the animal's behavior when put into a room to be observed by the public. When observing certain animals like primates, I noticed that most of them looked rather sad and bored living in there. While others like lions and tigers, who live in an open space outside were a little aggressive. Watching the animals lay in the little habitats made me feel really dead inside. Especially, seeing the polar bear outside on a partially cool day, living alone. He wasn’t happy just like most of the animals there. That is why we say no to the created creation and preservation of zoos.

For the Quarter 3 Travel Project, we had a lot to do but it was very exciting. We had to basically become apart of a travel agency and plan a trip for 2 to a Spanish speaking country and map out their whole trip. To show what the couple was going to do and how they were going to get to the place of their choice we had to make a brochure, slide show and commercial. The brochure was to show where they were going, how much everything caused and their daily activities. The slideshow had to also include the same information but more into detail. Lastly, the commercial was to persuade people to book with our travel agency. This benchmark, was a struggle especially becuase it had so many components. I overall enjoyed the project because it was so much fun planning the trip and finding information about a new/foreign place.

Quarter 3_Project #1_La Poesía Española

Quarter 3_Project #1_La Poesía Española (2)
For this project for Quarter 3 we had to first pick a Spanish poet from a list. When we chose a poet, we had to write a biography of the person and find a poem of theirs that we think we could reflect in our own poem. We had to write a reflection of the poets poem so that we understand what it was speaking about for when we write our own poem. Then, when it was our time to act as thoug poet and write and autobiography of ourselves and write a poem of our own using the theme of your poets poem. Overall, I enjoyed this project because it gave me the chance to express myself and how I write. I liked the work of the Octavo Paz (the poet I chose). And the poem "Where Without Whom"that I chose to reflect was good because I think I made a good poem to reflect the deepness of the poem.

Canal 7 Noticias (1)
For this project titled "Las Noticias" we had to get into groups of about 4 or 5 students and create a spanish news broadcast. Each group member had a job either an anchor, meteorologist, fashion expert, health specialist and breaking news broadcaster. We had to cover the 4 segments weather, fashion, breaking news and health news. The first step was to pick a city. Then, we had to find the segments presented for the city of our choosing. This project was interesting becuase I was able to take on the role of a person I never thought to be. It also helped me to understand the struggles of the job I took upon as well.

This Spanish project was my favorite. We had to create a children's book about health, body parts and clothing. We had to have a partner and one person was the writer and the other is the artist. The writer of course did the dialogue and the artist constructed the drawings that went along with the dialogue. What made the project so fun was because I was able to actually do what I wanted to do without any limits except the components we are supposed to include about health, body parts and clothing. That was the best project I did and I was very proud of myself.

For this Spanish project we had to get a partner and act out a college interview in spanish. We had to create dialogue about a college that we research and used it to form our interview. This project was a challenge because speaking Spanish is a challenge for me. It did show me that I need to work harder at it and it'll all pay off.

Spanish Project: Día de los Muertos

Posted by Alicia Nelson in SPANISH 2 - Moran - C on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:07 am
For this Spanish project we had to decorate sugar skulls and mask for a loved one we had lost. Along, with the sugar skull and mask we had to create a eulogy and a reflection of the person and what they meant to you. I enjoyed this project because it was about to get me out my comfort zone and ask my mom questions that I never thought to ask. I found out a lot about my grandfather being as though I never met him.

Spanish Conversational Presentation
On this project we had to make a presentation on the Spanish verbs ser and estar and create videos according to our sentences using ser and estar. We had to make slides on the many categories of the verbs ser and estar and includes spanish material like articles, possessive pronuns, subject pronuns , etc. I enjoyed doing the project because it helped me better understand and use the verbs ser and estar.
