Senior Capstone School Garden (Aziz) 2019

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Senior Capstone · Connaghan · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 5:33 am
For my senior capstone I basically talked about the benefits of starting an official school/community garden. This was all thanks to green team and those tiny little rascals. This whole thing kind of took me on an adventurous ride, cracking this shell of mine and opening my mind a bit more. I ran into some slight issues (minor ones) but nothing to serious. Am I happy with my end goal yea, do I think it could've been better "HELL YEAH". In the end though I got to meet knew people and learn knew things, and if that can happen to me just from working with plants then it sure can happen to others in the SLAB community.

While doing this project I learned more about some of my favorite ways to garden. That being Aquaponics (because it includes fish/water animals in general Not only that but I also learned about the organizations that help globally with issues involving Food, Agriculture, and land. This not only inspired me to learn more about Agriculture but it also makes me want to chase this field even more.

Air Pollution in the U.S

Summary: I came into this project kind of knowing what I wanted to do which made it easy. This topic is something I've been looking into for a while. So I was very comfortable in doing this topic and actually talking about it. Every one played a part in discussing air pollution Samuel talked about the affects Air pollution has on the body. Asaad talked about the laws that are in play or the laws being created to counteract Air Pollution. While I Jy'Aire O'Connor talk about the political views. Everyone approached this topic with open arms because we all have some history with it. How I can contributed to this project you may be asking? Well I threw in the history portion including a well known historical event. Some would argue that this event started the push for clean air. What I could've done more is include some more examples/history. We could've done a little bit better when it came to recording. A take away from this is paying more attention when it comes to air pollution.

Ethnobotany & Cultures

Within the Agriculture community we've had many different types of groups amplify and pitch in increasing agriculture and spreading it. One of those being the indigenous tribes found within the U.S and basically everywhere else. We studied multiple tribes such as Lanape, San, Angami, Sioux e.t.c. Within these tribes we've seen how important agriculture was to them. Usually being the drive force to their tribe and growth as a community. Something like this helps explain the heavy background agriculture carries which is why it's praised and held to such high standards. Looking into this helped a lot and made me more interested in researching in said Topic.

A Picture with Pops

I use to have you in a frame

Almost like a photo

But seeing that brings sudden pain

My heart suddenly grows cold

So I chose to throw you away

Not in a sense that you're trash

But keeping you around slowly broke me down

So to focus

I hid you in the top dresser the one that holds no value

Like a childhood toy shelved and long forgotten

You stayed there collecting dust but for what reason

Because I let this image of you bring up you leaving

I forgot who you were

To let the bad overwhelm the good

Was far from me

This photo a main factor

In my struggle something I simply hated

So I believed because of you my stature received these changes

I forgot who you were

I remember now

How you pushed me to succeed like a father would

You helped me told me I could

When I strayed away from my true path

You help put me back on track

So instead of remembering the bad

I'll remember just that

I need to remember

No bars will hold you

You can freely roam

A home far from home

These memories I hold on to

You helped me grow oh so bold

Cause when days are cold and feverish

That photo I hold it rids the cold

And I know for certain you're seeing this

A woeful road won't change my tone

So instead of just hating

This image I hid gracefully

I'll hang you up again

And use you as a means of motivation

A Father Figure

A Mere Image

Just an ordinary morning

Same routine which is Boring

I get up brush my teeth and think what’s the point

I do the same thing everyday

Learn the same thing everyday

Same routine different day

I look at the picture posted upon the wall

And can’t help but feel appalled

Realising I don’t do this Cause I have to

I do it cause i feel obliged.

I look at this picture and feel as though I need to pass

Like dedicating my grades to my mom and dad

Because they help me strive each day and each night

Even when life is filled with strife

This picture of mine I keep hung in my mind

Helps rid me of this plight

In dire times

This pic of mine

Sheds light on the days

I wish to decay

You motivate me

You inspire me

You guys the entire team

Keep me going keep me living

All that displayed through a mere image.

The Picture that Speaks

I pull you out of the first drawer
And look at you
Just staring
And staring
And staring

Until I get lost
Lost in the laughter and idle chatter
Lost in an explosion of colors
Surrounding me entirely
As colorful strips like film
Wrap around me

As the colorful binds release me from my mummified state
I stand there, looking at my own 13th birthday
And I get lost
In the laughter and idle chatter

Lost in the familiar face
Lost in the new ones,
And as I stare at me and maire smiling
Waiting happily to blow out the candles
I can't help but smile

A ton of Emotions overwhelm me
And as they do I'm back in my room
In front of that dresser
With that photo in my hand
And on that photo a tear

This photo indeed spoke to me
A mere minute felt like an hour
And a mere image felt like,
Felt like a heartfelt eulogy

This image has said more than I have
In my 18 years of living

This image spoke to me

And chill I kept raising my eyebrow while spitting this heat

Jim Lee Batman re-Work

For my project I chose to study Jim Lee, a Korean American comic book artist. By looking at Jims artwork, I had to create an art piece that was some what similar to his art kind of resembling it  j or creating my own art, In the end I decided to do some similar to his. I drew one of the most well known Dc Characters Batman some one who Jims come to love in character/drawing terms. Jim is really good at shading which is what I attempted to do. At first batmans face wasn't as long and chiseled. It was short and stubby. I ended up fixing it and it looks so much better. In the end I decided to give Batman blue eyes something he gained in the Arkham Knight serious called Detective mode. I decided to do something that corresponds with Dc characters because I really enjoy their work I thoroughly love it through and through. For my artwork I used a pencil, shading pencil, and color pencil, and eraser. I outlined Bruce's face with a Pencil. After that I added the lines creating a more chiseled face. After that I got the shading pencil and started filling up the face in places that looked to shiny or exposed. After that I a took my color pencils (black) and went around the page shading it, then erased the really dark spots. I freaking loved the outcome Compared to my other piece done earlier for this class I think its way better than the last piece. In conclusion thanks Jim for being able to help me improve in art similar to yours. A little bit of influence can go a long way and bring out the true artist in you I really love this piece deeming it my favorite out of all.

I've learned many things whilst studying this topic and I have to say It was very fun/insightful. Due to the fact that I was interested in said thing made it even more exciting finally getting to pitch in. I thoroughly enjoyed the Ecology Portion or unit was amazingly crazy cool. I left the unit with numerous amounts of knowledge in the topic. The only take away from this unit was the numerous amounts of reading all though I must admit "some" of it was necessary. One thing that really stuck with me was the dangerous dietary changes and how they effect not only humans but our Population, Community, and Ecosystem. I'am specifically talking about the "Food Matters" articles we had to read. Everything said in those passages I heavily related to because I thought about those touchy subjects the same way. I really enjoyed the multiple solutions presented to us as well as presenting our own in the little mini project. One question that'll stick with me is what will we do when the glaciers/Ice caps melt and the water level rises?

Still Life Image

Jy'Aire O'Connor

For this quarter I decided to do a Still life Image . My art had a story behind it just a light one though not to crazy. My Still life image included a Mason Jar, Mortar and Pestle, and Grapes. For this creation I used shading pencils, regular pencil, eraser, and a color pencil. I wanted my Still Life Image  to be somewhat dry and not too shiny this is why I chose these tools . My portrait consist of no colors what’s so over making it bland but detailed I really like this because the art really speaks to you. The colors don’t throw you off you just sit there and look at it.

This Still Life Image has a short story behind it. The creation of grape juice and what not.. In my creation the mortar and pestle are shaded more because they’re behind the Mason jar and for the grapes they’re resting on the mortar and pestle causing the top part to be shaded as well. The story is the creation of grape juice of course. Mortar and pestle are used to smash herbs and make medicines and what not. So basically you smoosh the grapes until they’re all mushy and nasty with mortar and pestle liquidate it and then pour it in the Mason Jar.

I Am more of a visual learner so while drawing I pulled up images of the things you see in front of me as well as had the physical objects in my general direction. While doing the outlines of the object I made sure to make it poke out which is why I used the shading pencil. I then had to rearrange the initial positioning of the objects to create as little space there was. When done with that I used different shading utensils giving the objects distinct colors making sure no object mimicked the other.. An artist that inspired me is Willem Kalf.. His art is very abstract and he’s known for doing Still Life Art.

If I could change one thing it’d be to add more color, add a surface, and redo the grapes. I hope to get better with the shading.

All in all I feel as though this project went really well. I learned a lot while doing this such as the different type of utensils as well as multiple ways you can use them. I also learned that I have a little bit of artist in me. I was actually proud of my art it looked great! I also learned that something so basic could come out so complicated or be considered abstract art when lots of time is put in.  I hope to use my experience now for projects later on in the future. I can’t wait to do more projects close or similar to this one and see the improvements.

Artist Statement

Jy’Aire O’Connor

For this quarter of Art we made a small self portrait the represents us either metaphorically, head on, or distinctly. My art was somewhat of a metaphor not mentioning or showing anything about me in it’s entirety. My self portrait  included one of kanye's album mascots Dropout Bear, a squid, a rainbow fish, a treasure chest, Rick (From Rick and Morty) as the sun, and outer space. For this creation I used Oil pastels, a pencil, color pencils, pen, sharpie, and crayons. I wanted my Self Portrait to be somewhat dry and not too shiny this is why I chose these tools . My portrait consist of many colors because I wanted it to be vibrant.

This portrait represents my life and my future choices. In my creation the sky and the ocean kind of collide because my thoughts on both are conflicting. I can’t choose between studying astronomy or marine biology when I get to college. For the Kanye West Dropout Bear I chose him because the character itself is ironic. It’s called Dropout Bear yet he graduated high school and earned his Bachelor's degree. Although I joke about dropping out or feel as though I want to I always persevere and pull through when times get hard. Rick being the sun shows how much the show and science influences me. The squid, fish, and treasure chest kind of point out my love for marine life and the perks that come from studying them.

I Am more of a visual learner so while drawing I pulled up images of the things you see in my self portrait and drew them. While doing the outlines of the object I made sure to make it poke out which is why I used the sharpie. I then had to rearrange the initial positioning of the objects to create as little space there was. When done with that I colored in the self portrait giving the objects distinct colors making sure no object mimicked the other. I smudged the oil pastel to fill in any missing spots. An artist that inspired me is Vincent van Gogh. His art is very abstract and he’s known for using oil tools to paint. One of my favorite pieces of art from him is “The Starry Night”.

If I could change one thing it’d be to add more patterns in my art like Vincent van Gogh. Just like swirls or zig zags. I hope to get better with oil tools and get close to his way of art.

In Media and Design we were given the task of creating a website that explains us and the things we accomplished in our highschool years. As well as the things we did outside of school. I created a website that mainly focuses on the things I did to get me closer to my goals, my interest, my resume, and a brief description of my life. While doing this I hoped to do better than last year never straying away from the true meaning of the website. While creating the website I had to choose a template remove the original components, and adjust everything to my liking. When done I added in 4 pages Resume, about me, Projects, and Contacts. I added everything need for each category especially my resume and previous projects.

As I stated early last time I did this I had no real understanding of the project and strayed away from the main idea adding what i thought I was supposed to. Now that’s changed and after Hours of listening I was confident in doing this. I learned how to add pdf’s in websites this was a needed skill because my resume is a pdf and I kind of needed to add it. Id consider myself a pro now when it comes to working with Wix. I feel as though i’ve grown mentally taking in a lot from this project i’d say I'm meeting the expectations. During the time it took to complete this project I learned that I can go overboard or do too much.

If I could do this Project differently I would use another website. One that i’m not that familiar with. For those doing this project later on use the help me page or watch tutorials to get a brief understanding of the website you’re using. This project inspired me to use websites more to convey or relay my image/voice.

Ferrari F80 SuperCar 3d Model

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Intro to Design and Multimedia on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:26 pm

For my Project I did 3d modeling. I came in hoping I could learn a lot about 3d modeling and how I can use it more often on my own accord. My project basically based on my love for cars. S I chose to 3d model a car which happened to be a Ferrari F1 super vehicle. In order to complete my project I watched a numerous amount of tutorials. I first messed around with the tools to get a grip on things after that I started creating my project using script. I ended up learning how to use script to build stuff and also what materials would make 3d models look smoother. I learned that I Am very enthusiastic about 3d modeling due to my actions. Such as building my 3d model in under a week and improving it making it fit my description. If I was to due this project all over again one thing is due differently is not use script and try building it only using the coordinates and materials so basically just from scratch. Well a tip for those who are planning on doing this project if you feel as though the way to create a 3d model is hard remember that there are multiple ways to create a project. This project inspired me to do animation with 3d modeling or the 3d models I made. The tools I used helped deliver my message was clara.io and scripting. This helped me a ton it made my message clear and fun. This was very fast and easy to make it showed my love for cars in a bright and elaborate way.

My One Point Perspective

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in ART 9 - Hertz - a2 on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 5:55 pm
My 6 word memoir was Depression and happiness faces I wore.
This relates to me and my room because while I was 13 years old I lost my best friend due to gun violence.
When hearing about this I was depressed but put on a happy face for my family because I didn't want to see me sad.
As you can see my room had boarded up windows with stressed wooden floors but is somewhat neat. The little peak of sunshine represents the happiness that is soon to come.

Street Art Blog Post

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in ART 9 - Hertz - a2 on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 4:58 pm
My work was based on a anime called Naruto. It's the story of a boy who lost his parents and due to what he holds in him he is an outcast to society. But that doesn't stop because he grows stronger gains friends and endure the pain.

What Inspired my work was the Anime Naruto

I chose to put it next to the doors on the left side of the building because everybody would see it.
(But sadly it either fell off or someone took it down ;-; .)

It made me realize that if you believe it's art and pt it up in away that others can agree with you than it truly is art. No matter what it looks like or comes from.

It changed my perspective by showing me that the art done in cities and open places are respected and looked up to by most people due to the message. It made me realize that art is seen differently through others eyes and that's why art like that is controversial.

With the picture it said endure the pain In graffiti

The Internet and You

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:37 am
Slide 2:The 2nd slide is about decisions you make and the possible outcome. The butterfly symbolizes the butterfly effect which is the positive and negative effects of your choices.

Slide 3: Is the way people see things and how they see things differently. The picture are the reactions people might have after seeing thee things because remember everybody had different opinions.

Slide 4:The fourth slide is showing how you have to approach things with caution you kind of have to be paranoid or do things with caution.Because at any point you can be targeted and if you feel like you are then you might want to be careful.

My number one rule is never add, accept, or trust anyone you don't know.Unless you ask a friend if they're related to this person or if they know them and seen them physically.

Who am I ONline

Posted by Jyaire Oconnor in Technology- Freshmen - Hertz - a2 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:37 am

  My Social Media Survival Guide

1.Who are you online, and how do you appear?

1A.Well on “Social Media” websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram i’m a 15 yearold named Jy’Aire O’connor. Now there might be a risk for given away my exact identity but in the eyes of others they’ll see that they can trust because I tell the truth.Especially if I were to ever get a job that would really help.On websites such as google and the Social Media websites ( posted above ) in the eyes of others I would appear as a young man who takes cherishable moments and post them, a young man obsessed with videogames, or a young man who loves comedy.

2.How do you think people perceive you, based on your appearance?

2A.I think many people view me or see me as an honest person and someone who takes feelings into consideration.I say this because the stuff I usually post aren’t offensive. They’re either pics of me, with friends, or topics I talk about. Now Physically im tall and slinky but has the face and personality as a child. So some might be scared due to the height differential but as soon as they get to know me better they’ll be reassured.

3.What do you consider before posting anything online?

3A.I think about who will be offended by this or hurt.Who would feel as though i’m singling them out or talking about them directly.Sometimes these thoughts are about me also because some people hop on social media websites just to criticize. So I can’t only be thinking about others safety but mines as well.I say this because if the person was ever to criticize me and we were in an arguement and I said something rude about that person other people could be offended by that making it a whole contreversial debate.Making me look like the bad guy when in reality I was the victim.

4.What are the pros and cons of sharing online?

4A.Well the pros are you can set your page to private so no one can see, you can take down things before people can see,you can have a setting where parent filters on so no r-rated stuff can be posted and viewed by you,and if you’re a really good person who doesn’t post mean or hurtful things to others but instead post things about themselves and good things about others than if you were ever to seek a job and a boss were to check your background or social media account they would be glad to see nothing harmful was posted by you, and first impressions will be made.Cons anything you post will be saved on the internet forever,if you post harmful, and hurtful things when applying for jobs you most likely won’t get hired, people will be criticizing and trying to start stuff with you, and first impressions will be made.

5.Explain how Lack of Control, Permanence and Immediacy have an impact on our online lives.

5A.Let’s put ourselves in a scenario if you were to post something very rude, harmful, disgustingly rude, and highly disrespectful and media got to it you messed up you own life.People will be taking your words posting it online sharing it with others. These words you chose to use online will now be used against you when applying for jobs, making new friends, and first impressions.Even if “you” delete this comment it doesn’t mean you deleted it off of everybody else's page.Plus when it spreads so quick and you can’t do nothing about it you basically ruined your life. For example the college student at UCLA who jokingly made a rant against Asians.it was shared with friends supposed to be kept secret amongst them until those friends shared it with others and like a forest fire the now known or so called racist rant went viral quickly reaching everywhere and offending others (specifically Asians). The posting from other peoples pages made it permanent, the video when uploaded it spreads immediately, and the video and the student had a negative impact on her and other peoples lives.Sure she might not be racist but in that video some beg to differ. Many first impressions will be made even though we don’t know the person as well. That's another problem for all we know the UCLA student could’ve been dating a Asian and that's another con or problem we are so quick to judge but never ready to research or see from this persons pov. We let anger and dumb thoughts take over our mind and just speak for us.
