The Capstone at SLA is a year long project, designed to be virtually whatever a student chooses. At the end of the year the student presents to a handful of teachers, what they’ve accomplished throughout the year. The goal of my project is to show to my audience how public transportation is a large part of city life that we take for granted, and how it allows the economy to continue to grow. I have used this hands-on internship as a way to get real world experience observing and interpreting the field of systems engineering. I was provided the opportunity to use Septa as my basis for this, as this company is accessible and fits into my intended career path. For my Capstone I decided to focus on something that I could see in my future, and that would be a stepping stone to making this thought reality. I have been interning at SEPTA since February and will continue to do so after school ends. Throughout my Capstone Presentation you will be able to see the things I learned, experienced and inquired about during my time interning.

My group chose to research Tsunamis and created a slideshow in order to inform our audience. I personally knew the general idea of what a Tsunami was and where it usually strikes, however I learned more about how they are formed and how we can prevent them. I also learned a lot more about the different spheres that make up the earth which include; cryosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.

Obesity In America Infographic

Posted by Khafren Smith in TECH 1 - Hertz - a1 on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 8:40 pm
My Infographic is about Obesity in this country, and how it affects us. I decided to do my infographic on this topic because with my mother in my house as a nutritionist I am often told about the affects obesity has on people. I thought that someone would benefit from knowing the specific facts about obesity in this country.

Artist Statement

I chose to make create my lit phone case because my phone is a big part of my life personally and I believe society in general. I believe that technology in general was my aim for a project idea but I felt that a phone case would be better because of the fact that it is a handheld device unlike a computer. I use my phone multiple times a day and use it for music, communication, and social media. I think it states that this generation is more involved in technology than anyone ever has been. Therefore I believe it means that I am a technological person, whether that means it’s a good thing, or a bad thing.

I chose this pictures because this is something that in America most people have in their home or have access. I believe that people that are given access to internet and computers have to make a choice, whether to responsibly use it or abuse it. You can do endless things on the internet now, which makes it easier easier to cyberbully others. Because there are no
