Katelynn's Senior Capstone

Posted by Katelynn Valdez in Senior Capstone · Schaar · ILP/TFI/CAP on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 12:02 pm

When you start High School you never know how your four years will be like. Some people may have good experiences and others may have bad experiences. Either way, high school will be a learning experience for everyone. I believe my four years at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber have been a roller coaster. For my Capstone project, I wanted to share my experience with the people who have impacted me the most at SLA at Beeber by creating a video. I believe making this video was the best way for me to do reminisce and reflect on the importance of what SLA has done for me and others. I wanted to focus on how things changed for me because I came into this school with a lot of confusion. I continuously asked myself, who will be my friends? How will I be academically? Will I have good relationships with my teachers? My video shows how I came to terms with all of my curiosity. I made this capstone to reflect on my four years in high school but also thank everyone. To do that, I had to put together interviews with students and teachers for people to really understand what it is like to be apart of the SLA community. In conclusion, I gathered videos and pictures of all the people who have were significant to me. The goal of creating this video was to be inspirational and for people to remember Science Leadership Academy at Beeber the way I will remember this school.

Humans of SLA Beeber: Iris

Interview With Iris Wilson

K: what are the most important lessons you learned in life?

Iris: umm be careful what you say and do.. especially around my parents. they’re just..like if i say the wrong thing i like to start world war 3 between them. i feel bad cause sometimes i have to lie to them but that’s the only way they get along.

K: if you could snap your fingers and make one thing better in the world what would it be? and why?

Iris: equality. too many people are sexist and biased and racist. everyone could just like let everyone live on with their life and i think the world would be much nicer.

K: tell me a story about your name?

Iris: “oh class is over.”

K: tell me a story about your name iris.

Iris: okay well when my mom had me i was like her 7th child, i’m not sure actually. but um so basically my mom named me after her cause her name is also iris. but she named after her cause she thought i was gonna be her last kid. but then you know she had like three more kids so my name was kinda pointless, because technically speaking my sister should have been named iris but that didn't work out.

Interview with Obasi Adams

K: What are you proudest of in your life?

O: I’m proud of the fact that like after all I been through like I’ve survived, I haven’t done anything stupid yet. That i’ve been able to compose myself and continue to live on.

K: Okay. what does your future hold?

O: I’m not really sure about what my future holds. All I can do is pretty much live in the present and hope for the best for myself.

K: umm how would you like to be remembered?

O: I just wanna be remember as a person who was.. just like present was always just like available. and a person who always had somehow an impact on somebody else’s live.. somehow changed something in this world that i felt needed to be changed.

Tips for Teenagers

By: Katelynn, Kiersten, Samihah, Iris & Nick

Based on the I-Search papers that we completed on teenage development, here are some tips for teenagers to help them be happier and to help them develop in positive ways.

  1. Always find a healthy stress reliever. When you’re overwhelmed, don’t take it out on yourself; take a walk to relax yourself, draw your feelings on paper, listen to music, take a nap.

  2. Learn what may stress you out to find a healthy way to cope. Healthy coping skills are talking it out, relaxing, thinking positive, and problem solving.

  3. Try not to feel alone, there is always people who can relate.

  4. Learn how to express yourself. Take up gardening, painting, photography or any other way to express yourself.

  5. Don’t let anyone have a bias perception of you.

  6. Love yourself and don’t let other peoples negative comments bring your self esteem down.

  7. Tell someone you trust about your problems. Such as, an adviser, teacher, friend or even a family member.

Infographic on Zodiac Signs

I chose to make my infographic about zodiac signs because I think astrology is very interesting. It's a topic I enjoy learning about and others may feel the same. I hope people learn things they didn't know about their signs and understand that somethings aren't always accurate according to who they are but it's still a fun way to look at things.

A picture is worth a thousand words

I chose this picture because it shows that this person actually feels comfortable on the internet and I think it should be that way for everyone. The internet should be more of a place where you socialize with people and make friends not bullies. If everyone made everyone feel comfortable and safe, the internet would be a better place. Meaning more people would be respectful digital citizens.
