Nathan McGill Capstone

Posted by Nathan McGill in Senior Capstone · Rosen-Long · ILP/TFI/CAP on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 7:26 am
I did my capstone with three other members and Elijah Banks, Brian Bess, and Kashawn Gilmore. We decided to host a basketball tournament for the younger grades in order to teach them about the importance of sportsmanship, Collaboration, and communication because they will need these skills for the rest of their time in SLA and in the real world.  Our plan was to coach the 9th, 10th, and 11th graders that are interested in basketball to improve their learning and collaboration skills. Our Inquiry questions were, What made us want to have a basketball tournament?, How will the kids participating benefit from this tournament?, and what will we gain from this tournament? Throughout this whole process I learned that you can teach life lessons through activities that people enjoy and it can positively impact their lives.

Teen pregnancy

Posted by Nathan McGill in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 9:51 pm
In our video we provided information about how teens are affected by pregnancy. We interviewed someone from the Northern Homes for Children Facility and asked them about their experience working their and how they were able to help the pregnant teens. I contributed to the project by helping find someone to interview. Something that we did well while bringing this project together was we collaborated well and came up with plenty of ideas. I feel as though that the most meaningful part of the project was interviewing someone from Northern Homes for Children and being able to get an inside look.

In this diagram you will find out how our disease Schizophrenia affects the brains nervous system. We include definitions of the different parts of the brain and what the effects can do to damage the brain. Overall I learned a lot about schizophrenia much damage it can cause. This disease can change your whole life around and we need to make sure that people are aware of it and get the proper treatment needed if they are affected by it.

On our poster board, we answered the five questions. On the sides of the poster boards, you can see the description of the rules of football, the training, the injuries, and how to prevent the injuries. We also drew a diagram of a person and explained the areas of injuries and the terms used from those areas of the body.

Oil Spills Q2 environmental science

Posted by Nathan McGill in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:30 pm
My group and I decided to do focus our project of oil spills. Oil spills are not really talked about so we chose this topic in order to bring awareness about the dangers and how it can affect humans. I contributed to the project by helping create a way that we could present this presentation to people. we made a news broadcast and also went around and asked people what they know about oil spills. We did well bringing the whole project together and also managing our time. I do not feel like we needed to change anything. The most meaningful thing about creating this PSA was providing ways to prevent oil spills.

Infographic

While doing the info graphic, there were a lot of things that popped out to me. we decided to study Hunting Park and found out some interesting facts. The main thing that stood out to me was the prevention of lead poisoning. You can prevent lead poisoning by replacing any plumbing that contains lead. I feel as though as a city we have to do better for our safety.

Sustainable Business

Posted by Nathan McGill in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 10:39 pm
The different earth's systems have different impacts on the world. When it comes to how they all affect each other they all create the next step to the next earth system. By all of the systems affecting each other, the earth can flow smoothly and the cycle can continue from there. There are certain things that humans do that can interrupt the cycle as well. So as a population we would have to do better with, water usage, poverty, and other issues in order to have a sustainable future.

Poetry Q1 project

Chain

My boxing chain does not mean I box,

It’s a symbol that I carry with me,

Everyday and every night,

The glove around my neck is not a sport,

Never have I taken it off,

Gives me confidence and motivation,

Tell myself to keep going,

Never let the weakness show,

A birthday gift from my grandpa,

Was given to me because of my family  nickname,

Champ is for champion right,

Champ the nickname I was given,

My grandpa call me that because of Muhammad,

Ali the boxer also the champ,

Makes sense,

The gloves will stay on

Am to Pm

Wake up the chain is around my neck,

Go to sleep the chain is around my neck,

Eat the chain is around my neck,

Drink the chain is around my neck,

One small object gives me confidence,

One little object provides me with guidance,

Reminds me to strive until I reach the top,

Reminds me to stay grounded,

Symbol of strength and being humble,

My grandpops gift matches my qualities,

But it does not match my hobbies,

Matches who I am,

Never has is let me down,

Since 9th grade has stayed around my neck,

So the truth is,

This is more than just a chain

ALI

Why is the chain a boxing glove,

What does the chain represent,

Do you box,

What gym you go to,

Questions that are asked constantly,

Give them a simple answer,

The chain was a gift,

No time to explain it all,

Muhammad Ali is behind this chain,

The champ of boxing,

The king of boxing,

One of the greatest a legend,

My nickname is champ in my family,

That's what the chain represents,

My qualities and my path,

To be the greatest at anything I do

Floods

Posted by Nathan McGill in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 10:21 pm

1. How do the earth systems affect each other?

Floods can affect the hydrosphere. The floods can destroy rivers and lakes, they also pollute the water making it unhealthy for marine life.

2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

The understanding of environmental science can aid in handling floods because once you know how floods occur, based on what you know you can find ways to prevent floods from happening and prepare for them.

3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

When it comes to floods there are a couple things you can do to create a sustainable future. Some examples would be to introduce better warning systems, have more flood barriers, and to create more wetlands for the water to be condensed.

Fast Plants

Posted by Nathan McGill in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:05 am

  1. Did the F2 generation look like how you predicted them to look?

    1. No, the F2 generation did not look like how I predicted instead they looked the complete opposite of what I predicted and this might be because we stopped nurturing our fast plant like we were suppose to so it ended up looking dry and shriveled up.

  2. Did the parent generation or the F2 generation grow faster?

    1. The parent generation grew faster than the F2 generation.

  3. What might have hindered your plants' ability to thrive?

    1. We didn’t water our plants very often and I don’t think we added enough fertilizer when we first planted them.

  4. How do genetics and the environment affect the phenotype of an organism?

    1. The plant might grow accustomed to artificial light and being in a tight space would make them different to other plants that receive actual sunlight and aren’t in a tight space but rather in open space where they aren’t all bunched up.

  5. Which is a greater indicator of how an organism will look?

    1. The environment that the organism inhabitants and how they’re being treated in said environment.

  6. A summary of what stood out to you during this course and why.

    1. During this course I found out that the environment that a plant is in does have a big impact on how that plant grows and how it would turn out in the end. I found this out because I noticed at first when we were treating our plant right and nurturing it it was very green and had little seeds growing on it and but when we stopped nurturing them they started to wilt and turn from a healthy green to a dessert/sandish color and didn’t have little pods growing on them anymore.

Photo shopped picture

Posted by Nathan McGill in Intro to Film & Video Prod · Hertz · d2 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 9:17 am
When I first thought about my project I was not sure if I was going to be able to pull it off. I created this website because it represents my life and what I enjoy to do. I thought that my finished website was going to be how I imagined but it came out better than I expected. Through the process of making the website, I could start to see that it was coming together great. Finishing the project I wanted to do something to capture people’s attention so I made sure that for my project page I chose a great project that I got a good grade on.
In the past, I have done projects where I had to make different slides and make them look presentable. Coming up with ideas for this project was difficult but I started by figuring out what I had to add to make the website look presentable. My website could inspire others to create a website so that they can reach out to jobs and other places. Time management is very important because you need to know when you will be able to finish a certain part of the website and being organized is important so you know where everything is. I had fun doing this project

Evolution of the Reproductive System

Posted by Nathan McGill in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:32 pm
During this project I have came across many things that we have learned in class. Some things that were familiar to me were the process of mitosis and meiosis. They both are a huge part in the reproductive system involving animals, plants, animals etc. I also learned more about the reproductive organs in worms, frogs, humans, and the main animal we focused on lions. All of their reproductive organs are different but they all produce offspring.

Leo Piece

Posted by Nathan McGill in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 5:35 pm

This project was fun and I had a great time creating this art piece. To be very honest my drawing for this project was the first thing that popped in my head but I like the way that it came out. The picture that I created was my zodiac sign which is a leo and the vines in the picture represent the jungle so I the piece the King of the Jungle. Some viewers might not be able to the zodiac sign because of the all of the vines but besides that it should be noticeable. Throughout the whole experience I did not have any issues besides printing but I feel like the carving went well and the drawing went well.

My old work and my new work are very different because my new work is more sophisticated and my was more kind of kid style. I first had to draw my picture and I made sure that it was neat then I traced the picture onto the linoleum and I carved around the picture. I used the iron to make the linoleum hot so it would be easier to carve. I did look up some pictures of my zodiac sign to help with the drawing and it did help a little bit. My work could influence other people because it makes a statement.

Mixed Media

Posted by Nathan McGill in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11:59 am

When I first chose my theme for my project I was not sure if I was going to be able to pull it off. I created this piece of artwork because it represents my favorite animal and my zodiac symbol. I thought that my finished piece was going to be how I imagined it but it came out totally different. Through the process of making the piece I could start to see that it was not turning out the way I wanted it to so that is when I started to come up with the idea to hide the Lion paw print in the painting so that when people see it they can search for it. Finishing the project I wanted to do something to capture people’s attention so I used newspaper and a red background to make the piece be noticeable and so far it has caught my classmates attention.

In the past I have done projects where I had to hide a person, place, or thing in the painting and they all came out great. Coming up with an idea for this project was difficult but I started by figuring out what i was going to hide in the painting, then I used newspaper, markers, crayons, and paint to hide the object. My art piece could inspire others to do a mixed media project or to just try a mixed media project and also show them that you do not just have to use crayons or paint to make art you can use other objects to. Time management is very important because you need to know when you will be able to finish a certain part of the art piece and being organized is important so that when you start your piece you know where everything is. I had fun doing this project I just wish it would have came out better.

Colorwheel

Posted by Nathan McGill in Art 2 · Hertz · b1 on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 12:42 pm

The art piece I chose to do was a color wheel of a eye with a certain background. I chose this piece because I thought that it would be interesting art piece and I wanted to see the outcome of it. When I finished the art piece I was very satisfied with the results I did not expect the piece to come out the way it did. Even though there was a number of people who chose to do an eye I still think mine was good to I did not really pay attention to anyone else's. I have always went all and out with my artwork on previous project but I do not think that I did that for this project but I will be sure to do that on the next one.

During the process of making this piece I had a few difficulties such as mixing the colors and how dark or light the colors would come out. I think that in the past there has been a lot of color wheel art that have become famous. This projects is not really similar to any other projects I have done in the past but it did come out good like other projects I have done in the past. The important techniques I used were time management, patience, and hard work. If I were to do this project again I would make sure that the colors are mixed well and make sure that before I start I have all of the materials I need to begin.

money is key, cooking is destiny

Posted by Nathan McGill in ART 9 - Hertz - e2 on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 9:49 am

Since I was six years of age I have been cooking all types of food. I have sold my food to many people in my family and also to my friends. Over the years I have earned at least 200 dollars. I have made all types of Italian food, Mexican food etc. In my drawing I included culinary posters on the walls and even have the food channel on the TV. In the future I wish to open around 5 stores around the world.

My street art

Posted by Nathan McGill in ART 9 - Hertz - e2 on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 2:45 pm
1. The meaning of my art is to shw the history of my culture.

2. Sometihng that inspired me to draw this was my dad because he started to tell me the history of our culture and I decided to include that in my drawing.

3. I chose my location because it looks like a good spot where evertone can see it when they are walking in the hallways.

4. This project changed my perception of art because it helped me realize that a lot of people include their real life into art work.

5. When I walk around the city I see all types of art and I never know what the art is trying to express but after seeing my classmates artwork and seeing what their artwork means I think I can understand city artwork.

Nathan M. social media guide

Posted by Nathan McGill in TECH 1 - Hertz - e1 on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 12:46 pm

When I get online I appear as a basketball player, chef, and also a good big brother to my little sister.

I think that they think that i’m nice because i do not post anything offensive about anybody online

and I do not post anybody else online unless it’s for a shoutout.

Before I post online I consider the fact that I have some followers that I do not know so I have to be careful about what I post because some people can steal my Information.

Some pros and cons about posting online are do not post anything you have online because some people might try to find out where you live and then try to break into your house to steal your items.

Lack of control online can turn your life around because there are so many things that people can do to you online like try to expose you and then try to embarrass.

I think that social media is a good thing because it is a way for people to stay in touch if you have a family member that lives far away or if you have a friend that lives far away.

Free speech is a way for you to speak your mind on social media but it is only safe if you put your social media page on private instead of public because if it is on public then people can read your thoughts.

A internet troll is someone that judges you on some of the pictures that you post and they make rude comments on the photo that you post.

The goals of internet trolls are they want to make the person who posted the picture feel bad about themselves.

We can stop trolling by blocking the people that have made you feel down or you can ignore the troll.

The pros and cons of posting anonymously are people can make rude comments to you or they can make memes about that person.

  1. be careful about what you post

  2. do not let internet trolls get to you

  3. be yourself and do not worry about anyone else
