Yarisnel/Diabetes Awareness

Posted by Yarisnel Rosario in Senior Capstone · Elish · ILP/TFI/CAP on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 9:11 pm

Diabetes is one of the leading  diseases happening all over the world.  I personally know about 5 people who have diabetes. It is because of this epidemic that I decided to do my senior project on a diabetes awareness video. Although I already know a lot about the disease eye when to doctors and nurses and people who have this disease to talk and to understand more about it.  This video was not only important but it was personal to me. As you can see in the video of my grandmother has diabetes. she also lives with me, if they're my family we all take turns helping out taking care of her giving her the proper assistant she needs. The video I don't only explain what diabetes is I give a inside as to how my grandmother got it and how it has affected her.  I also gave pointers on ways to prevent diabetes and the difference between the two types of Diabetes. I hope for this project is that people will he and get a better understanding of how diabetes worse and how to it can have such an effect on a person's life.

Quarter 2 Oil Spill Environmental Science

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r84_TfieXzo&feature=youtu.be

For our project we decided to go into a more creative roots. We wanted to do something that we hadn't really done at least for the most of us so we decided to do a PSA. We chose this not only because it was something that was definitely out of our comfort zone but we knew that it was something everyone in the class could have fun with and enjoy watching. The reason we chose oil spills was due to the fact that oil spills have a lot to do with our economy's pollution in today's society. Not only is oil spilling a issue in our city but it is a world-wide issue. It happens in our oceans our lakes or creeks and once oil is in our water system you cannot remove it.

For this project I contributed with finding research, helping and creating the script and with the lyrics of our PSA. I wasn't too good on coming up with lyrics. It was very hard for me so to do. I  feel as though the next time I decide to do something like this for a project I could research more on how to do a PSA and try to contribute more in that department. Even though it was difficult for me to come up with the lyrics I felt very proud of our outcome. I felt like this PSA was a way that we could express how we felt, the issue that is occurring so that others can understand it and self relate

In the city of Philadelphia, there is a critical situation happening below the citizens nose.  in the article “City ignores thousands of  poison kids”  talks about the Dangers lurking Within our drinking water. This is something that hasn't been report it  lately.  This is a problem that no one really knows about. Just a couple months ago and Flint Michigan there was a spike in lead with in the drinking water. The water was contaminated so bad that they were forced to find a new and healthier water system to drink from. it was all over the news and everyone know about it. But as I said earlier that's not the case with Philadelphia. Philadelphia is one of the top cities in the country that deals with children being poisoned with blood.  2700 kids were diagnosed with high levels of lead end the  past year. There are groups that are trying to help the situation but with the 3 million dollar cut In federal funding and the nine million dollar cut in the  programs plus possessions that had to be cut it hasn't been  easy.

Natural Disasters & Earth Systems: Flood in Sierra Leone

Natural Disasters & Earth Systems
In this project, we talk about the four different systems of the Earth. Each and every system play a part into the other. I say this because if there is to much rain which is part of the atmosphere, then the ground will get soaked causing mudslides among other things. It's imperative that we understand how their disasters work so that we are able to predict what will be the outcome, how we can fix the damages. Learning about natural disaster also help with just getting a better understanding of the earth and how it works. As time has passed we have seen dramatic changes in the earth. I've only been on this earth for 18 years and I can see big changes from when I was little to now. The earth is changing and we need to change with it, this means bettering ourselves. Being more conscious of how we use things, our pollution, we need to take a step forward in the right direction so that our home can be sustainable for us

One With the Sea

I choose the Limited pallet project, for the project I painted a hammerhead and sea turtle. I choose those them because they one more of the most elegant sea creatures in my eyes. They’re also one of the most understood animals. I wanted people to be able to see the beauty of the animals and ocean. I wanted them to get a nice warm feeling as if they were swimming under them. This is something that i try to incorporate into all my drawings. I always try to make the person feel something apart of the art. I like for my drawings to tell a story.

I was inspired to do the type of design i did because there's a lit going on in the ocean. With pollution poaching and many other things. I want people to see the beauty in theses animals and not just fear. To me the ocean means wonder, beauty, and curiosity.

I was never really influenced by an artist I just always like drawing. My grandma and aunt use to draw alot so I guess you can say I got the passion from them. I mostly drew anime. I would say my painting is abstrct becuase of the way the colors flow together. From the deep rich blue to the eye opening bright light of the light blue on the top.

Manatee (By:Yarisnel M Rosario)

Artist Statement

When I was in the process of choosing what type of Multi Media I wanted to create I wanted to chose something that showed who I was in a way and something that would challenge me. I looked through the materials I had and saw clay. I chose to do clay because is a very hard material to mess with for multiple reason. Once I had my material I started to think about what I wanted to make. I knew I wanted it to relate to me in some way so I decided to do something with the ocean. I looked through animals and then picked to do a manatee. As I drew a sketch of what I wanted to sculpture to look like I wanted it to show what a manatee looks like and its environment. I believe that with my sculpture the view can clearly tell the message in the sculpture and what animal it is. While I made my sculpture I got to understand how clay works. My work fits into contemporary art because it's abstract and different.

To make my project I use basic shapes like circles and manipulate them into a different shape. I molded my clay and use tools to smooth it out and to create other textures. . I got my inspiration for this project by looking up pictures of manatees and other sculptures of manatees. These are some pictures that I got inspiration from. Picture 1,  Picture 2, Picture 3, Picture 4. I think that my art relates to the world we live in because with global warming becoming a big concern and animals becoming endangered i think my sculpture reminds people of the beauty in these animals.

QUESTION ABOUT THE PAST

Whatʼs the most exciting thing youʼve done?

Hmm that, that tuff but umm if i had to chose one thing my top one of the most exciting things i've done would have to be the sky coaster that i did in philadelphia i mean in florida what's wrong with me not Philadelphia cause it like 300 ft tall  and it this string not a string but a wire that brings you up to this humongous poll and drops you it like one of the closes thing i've done to like jumping out of a plain , but yeah that has to be one of the most exciting things i've done.

What are the most important lessons youʼve learned in life?

Umm i can just pick one  like the most obvious  one to me  was , i have learned that no matter what im doing i should always strive to be the best it because if like, because if not then what's the point in wasting your time in something, if you're just meeting expectations then you're  just being average and anyone can be average

What was the happiest most of your life?

(Laughs) well  , okay, umm that's really tough , umm but if i to pick one i would say that it would be  when i was around the age of 7 my family would have this tradition of going to  Blue Marsh lake to celebrate my cousin summer birthdays, umm there was always someone you couldn't make it, but this specific time everyone was there it was the most fun i had ever had with my family, because it was the only time i could see all my family smile

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRESENT

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?

If  i had to travel to one place in the world it was be the himalayas because like it someone that you get a good view you somewhere you can just stop and have a good view.

Whatʼs the best thing about being a teenager? The worst?

Umm the best thing i would say is that i know i have many years to come know you because im young , the worst thing i would say is that i know that i  don't know what lies ahead which is kinda scary

What are you proudest of in your life?

The thing i  would say in most proudest of just happen a  few days ago when i was actually was about to run a 5k without stopping. Befor that i had underestimating my mindset and when i finished it i got stronger which was why i joined students style philly run.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FUTURE

What does your future hold?

O okay well i obviously can tell you what going to happen in exact detail but what i can assure is that theres going to be way more excitement adventure, and like, i just know its going to be big

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 20 years?

In 10 year i going to be graduating college with my doctoral degree and in 20 ill probably be somewhere in the himalaya

Why i build this project i wanted to make many things i could not chose. I picked the logo of my dance studio because it means alot to me its where i spend lots of my time at and its my second home.  To build my studios logo i grab a piece of cardboard.  I drew my logo on the cardboard and then started to paint it.  After i was done it that i marked where i wanted to put the lights at and made a small incision.  I grabbed the lights and fused them into where i made the incision without cutting the wire i did that because doing that would show me which wire i needed to add on to.  After they were all in i cut the wire and piled the ends so that the copper inside was seeable and connected them together and then i glued the lights down so that they would not come off then i connect the 4 wires to the battery to see if they would work and it did.  Thats how i built my project.
