Quarter 1 Artist Statement/ Project

Posted by Taaysia Jones in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 12:11 pm

For my Quarter 1 project I decided to do a clay model of a stone with different symbols from different tribes. Me as an artist likes to use different materials and methods for my projects so that's why this time I decided to use clay.  I chose clay because to me its soothing and very fun to create things with. It is also a easy material to work with.  I chose to use symbols  and hieroglyphics because I also had an interest in for a while.  The process of this project was very time consuming. First you have to state your idea/ make a proposal.  Then you have to  research your project idea and its mediums. Next you start off with a prototype to see how your finished product  should come out. Once you're satisfied with the prototype then you can start you final product.  I chose the symbols of happiness, Guidance, and Healing.  I chose those symbols because I feel as though those terms and the keys of life. Without guidance your lost without happiness you're nothing, and without healing your stuck in the same mentality and trauma you've been in.

Rainbow Storm By Eliza Meketon

Posted by Eliza Meketon in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 7:55 am

My art project consists of colorful wax blotches that outline  silhouette of someone holding umbrella in what I consider a rainbow storm. I knew that a lot of people have been doing this on pinterest and it looked fairly simple. I have also known the materials considering that I have used crayons a lot. I learned how to create wax art in which I have never done before. This project has opened me up to a whole new media.  I also learned how to incorporate two mediums into one piece of art. Painting and wax. I had a lot of fun doing this. I was able to learn many different things that I didn’t I thought I would burn my fingers but I only did that like once so everything turned out great. I know I accomplished my goal because I did everything I set out to do. I also felt proud and satisfied when I finished. If you are not happy with our project than you know you clearly did not accomplish the things you set out to accomplish. I learned to be pretty patient. I learned this because when you are melting crayons, sometimes they do not blend the way you want to, sometimes the colors spread to places you weren’t planning on going. This requires much patience and flexibility. I am just proud of my whole project. I worked really hard all class period on perfecting my piece. There was a lot waiting, and things slowly coming together. I just had to wait for everything to really start looking the way I wanted it to. It was just a lot of effort on my part and I am proud that I stuck it out. Something that I would do differently is I would maybe wear protective gloves so I wouldn’t get burned, be more efficient with clean up, and plan out where my colors are going to be.

Art Research

Posted by Justine Ogara in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 7:54 am

I made a quick doodle with pencil and then went over it with water color paint. I did this for my art research because I needed to do something quick and easy and didn't look that terrible. I wanted to make a thing that used different colors and also had to outline. It is currently at home, I will bring it in later. I think it looks good for a quick thing I did in one class.

The Tree of Life

This is the tree of life. At the top of the tree you can clearly see that the tree is loseing its leaves. That means that time is slowly passing. I used early autumn late summer colors. To show the seasons passing as life goes on. This picture is supposed to show the beauty of life but, also the little time we have left. The leaves are slowly falling as time passed. Soon it will be winter, soon it will be too late.

Before I started tis project I knew I had to figure out how to darw a tree and how to blend colors. Now, that I look at my painting I see that I have reached my goal of blending colors and drawing a half decent tree. I compared my work to the wor I found on the internet and I asked my classmates and teachers. They say it's great so I assumed that I met my goals. While meeting my goals I learned how to make my pictures look more realistic. I am proud that my tree came out better than I hoped it would be. I was proud that I could add more even after I claimed I was finished.I don't think I would change anything about my project. I think it is perfect the way it is.

Project 2: Prototype

Posted by Taaysia Jones in ART ADV - Hertz - b2 on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 12:54 pm

I will  be doing a blanket  using a cardboard loom and multi-colored string.  I will be weaving the string through the string and cardboard. I wanted it to be a life size blanket but instead iLL MAKE A MINITURE ONE.  I MIGHT  also try the Navajo weaving method which is a design. Which ever one looks the best I will go with

Doodle Art

For my art project I would like to try out doodle art. Doodle art is when you doodle but add more detail to make it look nice and creative. I chose to doodle because I find myself doodling all the time and I like it. In the picture above I just did a little something. I drew hearts and pounds all over the paper and close together as a sketch. I did this type of doodle before and I like it.

This is just a drawing of what I am going to make on my actual art piece. My actual art piece is canvas stitching, so this piece will obviously be made out of yarn and a canvas grid. I have done this experiment before when I was younger so I am familiar with these materials. However, because I was younger and haven't picked up the tools in a while I may have a different feeling. I know this is something that I had enjoyed doing and that it was why I chose to try it out again.

On the top picture I tried to draw a tree. It is a terrible excuse for a tree but on my project it will be much better. On the bottom picture I tried to blend some fall colors together. That was a sad mistake to so my project will be much better.

For my art research, I researched still life art. We tried out still life last year, but this time I want to try it out more in depth. For my picture I sketched out a tree from a picture. I couldn't really experiment with shading and three dimensions since it was a two dimensional picture. So i sketched to the best of my ability a tree.

Creative Crayon Experiment

I practiced melting crayons to see how it will turn out when I do my project. I used a few broken crayons that no one will use. I used card stock to melt the crayons upon. This is a thicker, more durable version of paper. Then, I used the blow dryer to melt the crayons together. I tried to aim the blow dryer at certain angles so that the colors would melt together but not too much.
