Plants & Grow Bed

Throughout the course of this benchmark, everybody had different and evolving responsibilities. I was responsible for working on the Water Cycle slideshow and completing the Daily Work Journal, which kept track of my team's progress and which things still needed to be done. Additionally, I was responsible for conducting any additional research about questions that arose as we were planning on building the system, such as which bedding we needed to get and finding the best things that would work with our intended goal. 

I've learned many things while I was reading the class blog. One specific thing that I learned throughout the completion of this project was how unique an aquaponics system is in the way it functions. It's a great thing because it's self sustaining, but the conditions need to be perfect in order for it to function the way it was intended. I've learned much about climate change, it's history, and it's negative impacts on the world. ​

For this project I was the art director and I was in charge of designing the blueprint and creating the poster. I worked with the poster and presentation researcher to make sure that the information and images are clear and follow design recommendations. I learned how alternative energy sources impact the carbon cycle.

​For this project, I responsible for keeping everyone on task. Every class period, I would fill out the Daily Organization Chart which was assigning roles to my group members. I made sure everyone had a role and knew what they were doing. If one my groupmates didn’t know what we doing or didn’t understand something I was there to answer their question most of the times. Other times, I would ask Ms. Glynn for clarification and inform my groupmates. I also helped with the powering, even though I wasn’t the one who got the power to work, I was there troubleshooting, trying out different solutions.

Water and Fish

In my group I was responsible to do what I was given and thats what I did. My job was to do chemical check and I was kind of confused because I wast suppose to use high ph, I was suppose to use the low or regular ph. What I have learned through the class blog is you must be very careful with what you have in the tank

Plant Team

During the completion of this project, I was in charge of finding the importation on the poster and helping Elena to execute.  I had to do research on the differences between industrial farming and an aquaponics system and explain how it affects the water cycle.  Through this research I learned a lot about industrial farming and how bad it is for the water cycle and how it is negatively affecting climate change.  I also learned about how industrial farmers make genetic copies of plants in order to produce more making it so that the plants they grow cannot have the chance to mutate and be unique.  Finally I learned about how industrial farmers take water from lakes to water their plants causing lakes to dry up and also causing less water to be evaporated.

Plants & Grow Plants

​As a member of the Plants & Grow Bed I learned unique things about Aquaponics. For example, when we were building the bed for the plants. We started to argue about the filtering and how we were gonna layer the bed. We came to an agreeable and smart decision to have the rocks on the bottom than soil because the rocks and stop some of the soil from going in the filtering tube.

My job in the project was asking around to the different groups what are their parts. I had to find all the information from the power team and plant team. That would later move on to make the instruction manual for the aquaponic system. I also had to figure out and ask about the nitrogen cycle. The last part I had to do was find an article about climate change and say my opinions on climate change. What I learned is how an aquaponics work and all the steps involved with making one. I also learned that fish and plants can work together in a aquaponic system. My responsibilities for this project was a lot. I was the go to person to keep our section of the project going. I completed the Daily Work Journal and the Daily Organization Chart for every checkpoint. I also made sure we were caught up with our assignments and completing the aquaponics system for the fish. Filling the tank, picking out the right fish and making sure everyone has something to do was mostly what I did the time. Of course I had help, but I was mostly directing the team to get the work done.
