Electric Art Project

Posted by Kamaiyah Jackson in Physics · Gray · E on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 8:38 am

For my project i decided to light up a binder. I chose to do a binder because for the past year I have been focussed a lot on school and starting off high school with a high GPA. Seeing as though for this project we were supposed to chose something that was significant to us I thought a binder would be perfect. Throughout my freshman year at SLA I realized that there are more important things than school and while school should always be a concern it should never be your main concern in life because there are more important things. Ive experienced so much this year and I've learned  to put school on the back burner sometimes but in the end i will always come back to my books.

I chose this sculpture because it holds a special place in my heart. I use to play with this sculpture when I was younger and it made many good memories. It was easy to wrap the lights around my sculpture and power the lights. Another reason for me choosing it.

Artist Statement:

My sculpture is a physical metaphor for creativity and thinking outside the box. The lower part represents the status quo and everything that already exists. It is stable and solid and pretty reliable. The upper part of the sculpture is creativity and all that good stuff. It is a lot less safe and there aren’t really any people near you doing the same thing, that said this way is colorful and vibrant.

This statue represents a part of me because being creative helps me deal with stress and brightens up my day.If you didn’t know most lunches all I do is just sit in Mr. Gray’s room and write. I don’t get the comfort of knowing that I like what everyone else likes as well but for me that doesn’t matter.

The first letter of my name is K so I chose to represent that in my project because I’m a lit person. So I put some lights on it to show the world that I’m me and I’m proud. My circuit consist of 6 bulbs, consisting of a series of 3, 2, and 1. They series are all parallel to each other which shows why the single bulb is the brightest. I chose this piece to give a representation of my personality.

For My project I decided that for my project I was Going to attach my lights on to my wheel. I feel that It represents a lot about me because I use my wheelchair for everything. I also feel that it represents wheelchair basketball for because that is that is my passion and it's something that I love to do.

I chose to make this sculpture because this is the first letter of my name and wanted to see how it looks if I put lights on it. This defines me because it’s a part of my name and the lights on it represents my name. This says that I am proud of myself and my name symbolizes who I am and always be. I also chose this for my sculpture because the form of it would be challenging to try to attach lights to it and I wanted sort of a challenge. Overall, I chose this because it represents a part of my personality and who I am.
