PSA: Food Safety

Posted by Haajirah Nur in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 10:36 am
Food safety is a subject that impacts all of us. Recently there have been a number of bacterial outbreaks that have threatened our public health. Factors that play a big part in these outbreaks are lack of prevention control, hand washing, proper sanitation, following rules and regulations provided by FDA and FSMA and regulatory agencies such as the CDC and OSHA enforcing fines on corporations who do not implement food safety that were put in place to protect the public from outbreaks. The way that I contributed to this project is by researching and sharing my opinions and ideas in our PSA. I also conducted the interview. I think what I would have wanted to do differently was spend more time finding more people  to interview for more perspectives on the issue. Food safety issues have recently just been taken more seriously. researched has been stumped due to lack of money from the government to take care of the issue. The FDA has been finding more money to get technology that will benefit out mission on protecting our public health. The most meaningful part of this PSA was learning and getting to share what I learned to help our society come together for a cause that will in some way affect all of us.

Sleep and the Nervous System

Posted by Haajirah Nur in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · C on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 8:25 am

We learned about sleep and how it affects the nervous system. We learned that sleep can affect our mental and physical beings also. I have always known that sleep was important but I think it is helpful for me to learn all of the things that sleep can do to our bodies. My favorite part of this project was learning the information as a whole.

Fast Plants Final Reflection

Posted by Haajirah Nur in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:18 am
  1. Did the F2 generation look like how you predicted them to look?

    1. No, the F2 generation did not look like how I predicted instead they looked the complete opposite of what I predicted and this might be because we stopped nurturing our fast plant like we were suppose to so it ended up looking dry and shriveled up.

  2. Did the parent generation or the F2 generation grow faster?

    1. The parent generation grew faster than the F2 generation.

  3. What might have hindered your plants' ability to thrive?

    1. We didn’t water our plants very often and I don’t think we added enough fertilizer when we first planted them.

  4. How do genetics and the environment affect the phenotype of an organism?

    1. The plant might grow accustomed to artificial light and being in a tight space would make them different to other plants that receive actual sunlight and aren’t in a tight space but rather in open space where they aren’t all bunched up.

  5. Which is a greater indicator of how an organism will look?

    1. The environment that the organism inhabitants and how they’re being treated in said environment.

  6. A summary of what stood out to you during this course and why.

    1. During this course I found out that the environment that a plant is in does have a big impact on how that plant grows and how it would turn out in the end. I found this out because I noticed at first when we were treating our plant right and nurturing it it was very green and had little seeds growing on it and but when we stopped nurturing them they started to wilt and turn from a healthy green to a dessert/sandish color and didn’t have little pods growing on them anymore.

Evolution of the Reproductive System

Posted by Haajirah Nur in Biochemistry 2 Honors on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:31 pm
During this benchmark, we compared animals and how their reproductive systems are different and similar. We used the lion as our last animal because they are very much like humans and have almost the same reproductive systems with slight differences. What I learned through this project is that most animals have the same body structures and we are not very diiferent. Every animal has reproductive system and structures that makes reproduction even possible.

Crafts Scarf

Posted by Haajirah Nur in Crafts · Hertz/Leaness · C1 on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 8:39 pm
For my Unit 1 Benchmark., I made a pullover scarf.I wanted to make this scarf for my mom because blue is her favorite color and she wears cream a lot. I had struggles at first reading the pattern but then I looked up the abbreviations. This pattern consists of a single and double crochet. It starts of with a single crochet and then proceeds to a double crochet in the next few rows. I enjoyed this process and now with learning to crochet i have found something that keeps me level headed and can turn to when I am stressed. I cant wait for the winter to start so my mom can be warm. I will continue to make things with my brand new crochet skills.

I created this project because I wanted . My overall vision for the work was to draw a picture of a black girl with a puff and a crown with details as in depth as in the picture without the color. I wanted to bring out the beauty through value and lines which was used to represent her facial structure and contour.I think that my art communicates that black is beautiful can be represented in many ways.I think i achieved personal happiness in getting to represent who i am in the way that i am a black female. My current work relates to my past work because usually when i create an art project it relates to things that affect my life or things that have been inspiring in my life. I would say my work fit in with todays look on black people and black history month . I think i could relate my artwork to Kehinde Wiley because his art represent black empowerment and black lives matter.I first started my art piece by creating many sketches of what I wanted to draw. Once I got the idea of how I wanted to draw I then got my utensils and started my work. I started first by drawing her outline features. Then, I started on her features. Once I got her features down packed I finished by carving of her facial structure. The image that I was trying to describe was a picture of a black girl with a crown . My work reflects the world I live in because people always have something to say about black history month. The technique that I think was most important was how precise I cut the linoleum because it really brought out the features of the drawing. A new technique I used was using a paintbrush to cover the parts that were blan

RiRi

I created this project because Rihanna is my idol and i wanted to draw her since I idolize her so much. My overall vision for the work was to draw a picture of Rihanna with details as in depth as in the picture without the color. I wanted to bring out the beauty through value and lines which was used to represent her facial structure and contour.I think that my art communicates that Rihanna is beautiful and her beauty can be represented in many ways.I think i achieved personal happiness in getting to represent my idol in the way that i want her to be represented. My current work relates to my past work because usually when i create an art project it relates to things that affect my life or things that have been inspiring in my life.

I would say my work fit in with Post-war American War . I think i could relate my artwork to Irving Penn in 1917-2009.I first started my art piece by creating many sketches of what I wanted to draw. Once I got the idea of how I wanted to draw I then got my drawing utensils and started my work. I started first by drawing her outline features. Then, I started on her features. Once I got her features down packed I finished by outline of her facial structure. The image that I was trying to describe was a picture of RiRi with a short cut, holding her middle fingers up to the paparazzi . My work reflects the world I live in because people have this i don't care type of attitude and I can say that for myself as well because I have become a person that doesn’t care about a lot of things. The technique that I think was most important was vaulie because it really brought out the features of the drawing. A new technique I used was smudging .

Eye Color Wheel

I created this project because i think the eye is the most interesting part of the body because there is do much detail and story withing someones eye.My vision for this work was to make a creation an eye that had the details of an Instagram models makeup but also when you look in the eye you see inspiration and open ideas. I meant for this piece of art to appeal to teenage girls.
This relates to my previous art work because I usually direct to the audience of teenagers. This fits into today contemporary art because most "art" is directed towards teenagers and how they think.I think it fits in with historic art because it experiments with colors and using colors to create emotion. It is important to go with you gut when completing a project because if you dont then the project wont come out how you visualized it and you only have yourself to blame. A new technique that I learned is that when painting, you should brush in one direction because it makes the painting look more uniform and appealing. I also learned that being open to you own ideas and not worrying what others think can make a big difference im your work.

Artist Statement

I decided to make my project with my makeup bag because I really like putting on makeup and this the thing that holds all the makeup that I have. It is very important to me What this piece of art means to me is that I love makeup and I want the thing that holds it to also have some meaning . It will show others how much I appreciate and love makeup. I wear makeup almost everyday and because it is apart of my everyday life I decided to incorporate it into this project.

6 Word Memoir

6 word memoir: She walked in... the room silenced.

Backstory:This girl had a presence. The way she looked and carried herself people stopped and looked at her. She had a great vibe and everyone wanted to be her because she had her head on straight.Women were jealous of her and men wanted her. She wears makeup but never over does it. She sees herself as a princess and so do others.

Street Art

Posted by Haajirah Nur in ART 9 - Hertz - e1 on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 7:44 pm
The meaning of my work was to show what I've been through this past year. The eye with the broken heart represented the heart break that I went through and the times i cried over things that I now see as irrelevant. The angry microphone was a symbolization of how I used singing to manage my anger and other feelings that I was feeling. The two  shaking hands that looked like guns were a representation of broken promises by friends that I never thought would hurt me.What inspired my work was my personal experiences throughout the last year. I chose the wall that you see as you exit from Ms.Hertz's room but not for any particular reason other than that it was an open space .It really didn't change how I felt about art because it has always been a way for me to express my hidden feelings. It changed my perception of art around the city because now I dont see it as vandalism but as a form of self-expression.

"Me" Street Art

Posted by Haajirah Nur in ART 9 - Hertz - e1 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 8:50 am
  • What is the meaning of the work you created?
  • The things in my street art are inspired by the way I am. There is a microphone and it represents that I like to sing. There are two hands that look like guns because I have trust issues. There is an eye that has fire and a cold heart in the middle with mascara smears and this represents how I am usually sad or angry or both at the same time.
  • What inspired your work?
  • My personality and feelings inspired my street art.
  • Why did you choose the location you chose?
  • I chose the hallway near Mr.Gray's room because that's where most people are.
  • How did this project change your perception of Art?
  • It didn't change my perception of art. I still love it the same way.
  • How did this project change your perception of Art you see as you travel around the city?
  • It didn't change I see it the same way.

Script
In my group, we first had to complete our scripts. We have to put all of the things we learned together into our doc. We had to put all the vocab that we learned into it. The project was that we had to make a news broadcast in a group. I did like the project but I think that it was graded very harshly. I think that my advice for the next class is to be more organized and make sure that you communicate with your partners.

Who am I online?

Posted by Haajirah Nur in TECH 1 - Hertz - e2 on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 1:56 pm

Online I am an educated teenager who is very social. I am a student interested in many things. I appear as a sweet teenage girl who is very optimistic. They perceive me to be very down to earth, young and very social.I consider if what I am doing is illegal and how my mother would feel if she saw the things i posted.A pro is that you get to share with family and friends. A con is that if you post something that may be out of order you can be criticized and/or ridiculed and the picture can be reposted.Lack of control can impact our lives because if we a post a picture that may not be appropriate it can be reposted and we can lose control over the picture. Permanece can make a picture that you don’t want up for everyone to see easily accessible because everything you post if permanent. Immediacy can impact your life just how lack of control and permanence can.I think that potential employers have every right to a social media background check. It gives a better insight to the potential employees personal life and how they handle themselves.Free speech is being able to speak you mind without being harsh or rude. This may include protesting and standing up against federal law. Whats not protected is going after someone to ruin their reputation or spreading untrue things about a person so that they can be ridiculed by others. An internet troll is a person who posts irrelevant and annoying things on another person’s post.Their goal is to try to bring down others and make them feel bad about whatever they are posting online. You can stop trolling by ignoring their comments because eventually when you keep ignoring them they will go away. When using social media you need to be careful. You also need to make sure what you are posting is appropriate. You also need to be respectful, responsible and remember that what you post reflects your household.
