Motor Vehicle Injury and Accidents

Posted by Janelle Fields in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:53 am
Reflection:

My group's video showed the importance of motor vehicle accident prevention. We included statistics and interviews of people who have suffered injuries from car accidents. We chose this topic because we could all relate to the experience of a car crash. We thought it would be interesting to choose something that has increasingly gotten worse over the years in the United States. This allows us to research ways in the past that contributed to lowering the amount of motor vehicle accidents.
I contributed to my group by researching and recording some of the interviews. Most of the work was collective so I contributed in anyway that I could. I put the video together on IMovie and gave ideas to improve the visual aspect of our project. Overall, I think that my group could have done better with time management. We started late on the project which pushed us back a little but we were able to catch up. We did well with participating and taking criticism. We were respectful to each other and found a way fror everybody's ideas to be included. The most meaningful part of the project was hearing the stories of out friends and classmates. We heard experiences that we never knew about and I think it was a useful and connecting experience.

Janelle Fields Capstone

Posted by Janelle Fields in Senior Capstone · Epps · ILP/TFI/CAP on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 3:27 pm

For my Senior Capstone, I decided to set the volleyball team, that I was able to lead for my senior year, up for success. I wanted to leave them and new teammates with new supplies, skills, and a sense of family within our team. I worked with my mentor and volleyball coach, Ms. Moran, and the Athletic Director, Ms.Lawson, to research and order new supplies for our team. Thankfully, we were grateful enough to have all of our items approved, purchased, and set up. Following this process, Ms.Moran and I held open gyms twice a month to recruit and build a stronger volleyball group. We analyzed and we will soon be collectively choosing a new captain to lead our team next year. This has also in some ways become a mentor project for me as well !I have been able to work closely with some of my teammates that see me as a role model in volleyball and appreciate my choice in supporting and uplifting my team as my capstone. I hope that my capstone helps any student who yearns for a smaller support setting, a fun sport, an experience of a high school lifetime and keeps the importance of our volleyball team alive at SLA @ Beeber.

Light Pollution Q2 Benchmark

Posted by Janelle Fields in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 8:51 pm
https://youtu.be/dy6bf1Yvd0w

Our PSA speaks about the issues and importance behind light pollution. We raised awareness and explain how we can take action in decreasing this problem in our environment. Although light pollution is not talked about as much as air and water pollution , we decided to choose a very prevalent form of pollution that we believe society doesn't bring enough attention to.

I believe that we all played an equal part in the project. I was responsible for recording and contributing to the writing in the script.

I think we did well with working together in most moments but we could have managed our time a lot better.

The most meaningful part of the project was probably gaining the information that we were able to share in our PSA.

Toxic City Infographic

During this Unit we read Toxic City which explained the dangers and misfortunes of lead in homes all around Philadelphia. This is a very overlooked situation that is continuously occurring in various parts of the city. What stood out to me most was seeing zip codes that were so familiar, ones that I encountered everyday including our school. The side effects of lead in children was also very astonishing and sad. Overall, I think awareness should be raised because many people, including myself before I read this article, have no idea how serious these cases are.

Humans Of SLA Beeber

Recording for mommy
  1. Displaying IMG_0091.JPGWere there any phrases that were popular when you were a teenager? What did you like to wear?

Uhh.. some slang words like wassup and uhmm and in the 80s i don’t really remember too much but not too many ,

I loved to wear jumpers that was the thing back in the 80’s and the 90’s . the jean jumpers and i would let one hang to the side sometimes and you can wear both of them. Reboks were the sneakers that a lot of people wore before, not nikes or jordans , they were more for the boys but the boys wore reeboks and some girls were into jewelry but not me. They were into big hoop earrings or the big bamboos but not for me but that was the still for the 80’s and 90’s .

2.Have you ever had any nicknames as a child or as an adult? Where did they come from?

Yes, yes everybody knows my nickname which is baby donna and the only reason why they called me baby donna is because we had three donnas in the family. we had a cousin named donna and she was an adult when i was a child and we had my aunt donna which was my mothers sister so in order to distinguish me from the others, when the name donna was called ,they would say baby donna because I was the youngest donna.

3.How are your children like you? Unlike you?

Oh my children, my beautiful girls are all individualized with their personalities and creativeness and you are really good at listening and being a good friend and a great helper and i think you just have that on your own , i don’t think you get that from me or your father, you just got that on your own and thats who you are as janelle and i think kyla is very observative and shes more alert and aware of her surroundings and nia is very artistic and i think you all have your own personalities , i don’t see any of those characteristics in me i think what we do all have in common is a love in music, even though we have a different taste in the kind of music that we listen to. But me and you can relate a little bit with some music. Kyla and nia have their own taste in their music but we all have some stuff that we like and some stuff that we listen to on our own. So in summary you guys share your own comparisons with me as a child but but no you guys as far as like your own way of of living your life and doing certain things that you love its really individualized

4.What do you think are your three best qualities? Your three worst?

oksy my three best qualities, strong not physically i mean mentally emotionally and you know just with life in general overcoming obstacles. Uhmm, the second quality is uhmm.. my love and understanding for my family and other families and compassion and empathy that I have for people that I meet uhmm. . my third quality would be just learning at any given moment able and willing and excited and ambitious to just learn a lesson from everything . So my three worst qualities : organization i’m not organized as much as I should be .. uhmm the second would be im a little naive sometimes i should open my eyes a little bit more when it comes to certain things in life . third is .. uhmm.. a third one .. Pass .

5.Which do you think you have the most of: talent, intelligence, education, or persistence? How has it helped you in your life?

Persistance and persistance has helped me through all of my life with just getting through good times and bad times and accomplishing goals and things in life that im still continuing to work at So persistance is number one for me

6.Do you have any special sayings or expressions?

I always say be a leader not a follower every morning to my kids uhmm. there may be some but this is an interview where i didn’t read the question first so.. i cant think of one .

7.What’s your favorite book and why? What’s your favorite movie and why?

Pursuit of happyness with will smith and my favorite book as a child was the secret garden well pursuit of happyness has everything to do with perserverance and persistance. So thats why thats my favorite movie. My favorite book .. she was introduced to a whole new world and people with different disabilities and problems that they had to face so that was why that was my fav book. the secret garden.

11.What do you remember about me when I was born?

i remember when you were born you were an adorable baby and you had nice chubby cheeks and you had the cutest giggle when you would laugh and uhmm.. i dont know you were an adorable bay just happy and one of kind

What is the best thing about being a parent? The best thing about being a parent Watching you all grow up and uhmm being with you or just hearing about your day or your experience or your lessons learned just trying to guide you guys in the right direction and just having fun with you guys and sharing experiences its just the most beautiful thing in the world being a mom, and I just wanna do my best to make sure you guys have a good life , a great life.

Untitled presentation
I chose this picture because it shows the different identities that digital citizens can possess. The are different people behind the screen of a computer screen and although this could make people more open to the public, it can also have a negative impact. There is no guarantee that the person that is displayed online is the same person that is behind the screen. There are always risk.
