Public Issues PSA: Heart Disease

Posted by Jordan Lewis in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:25 pm

This video brings awareness to one of the most common public health issues which is heart disease. It aims to highlight how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle in order to decrease your chances of receiving one.  The video also reaches out to those who may currently have or have had heart diseases or disorders in their past.  We encourage those to speak up and bring awareness to the severity of heart issues.  However, we also aim to give them hope and courage knowing how many resources and organizations are out there fighting for their well being.  There are many organizations that help provide resources and care to those suffering from heart disease.  We encourage those suffering to never lose hope because there are people fighting for your greater cause.
Just like my group members, I contributed multiple factors to this project.  I helped work on every one of the checkpoints and was one of the main editors and producers of this video. I also provided most of the script for the video.  We did well on collaborating for the checkpoints to make sure they were completed, however, we should have been more proactive when thinking about the fact that certain group members wouldn’t be present during some of the project work days.  The most meaningful part of creating the PSA was the learning process because it was a great experience to find out about how much support there is in the world for those who are struggling with certain issues.

PSA - Heart Diseases and Strokes

Posted by Asmar Beyah in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:18 pm

For this project, we chose heart disease and strokes because of how huge it is in the world. Heart conditions and diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide, so we thought that we could get a lot of information on this topic. Each of my groupmates contributed with the research, making of the video, and editing/finalizing the video. We spent so much time on editing and making the video and I believe that it was good on how much effort we put into it, I just think we should have done it earlier so it could be less stress. I would have personally not procrastinated with this project so I can have a better process grade. The good thing about creating a PSA was the way our PSA can reach the SLA audience and community. This PSA can start nothing but a chain effect to whereas though people outside of the SLA community will see and use it.

Heart Disease & Stroke PSA

Posted by Aiesha Langley in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:18 pm

For our Quarter 4 Benchmark, my group and I focused on Heart Disease and other orders that are served as a public health issue. Many people don’t know what Public Health Issues mean but it is way deeper than what you think. My group and I came to the conclusion that Public health is "the well-being of the population that is insured by those of higher power who partake in the act of researching to counter diseases and extend general life expectancy." Heart disease is the most common disease. About 250,000 deaths occur from heart disease per year and 92% of deaths with heart failure as the underlying cause of death are among persons aged 65 years and older. I believe my group and I did well considering that we had some minor setbacks, we still made it and overcame the project. Overall I believe we did well as a group. The most meaningful thing about this project was being able to help others find ways to be helped if they are battling this disorder.

Water Sanitation psa- Philamena Seals

Posted by Philamena Seals in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 12:58 pm

For our benchmark we decided to do a PSA on water sanitation. In our video we included a conversation amongst the group members talking about what water sanitation is, how it’s sanitized and why it’s important. In my opinion water sanitation is the most important topic because of how necessary water is to all species. For the project, I got us in contact with a PWD worker and came up with questions to interview him. I then interviewed him and got information on how philadelphia's sanitizes water. Me and my group worked well together and turned everything on time. We could have started recording for our PSA earlier, but we didn’t. The most meaningful part to this PSA was learning how much work goes into something as simple as clean water. our video: https://youtu.be/EGqGoJt8m1w

Reflection Quarter 4 Benchmark

Posted by Jordon Gillies in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 12:06 pm

In the video we described the affects the overdosing on over the counter medicine. We also explain what they are and what are their purpose. I learned how sensitive it is to being addicted to over the counter drugs which can easily lead to overdosing. In my participation to the group I created interview questions, did some research, and helped control the interview. The most meaningful part of my PSA I think is letting people know that illegal street drugs are not the only drugs to be aware of. You MUST take over the counter medicine responsibly because the effects of misusing it are deadly. Pharmacists and doctors are the main people who are in this industry. This effects the economy in a negative way because we have to pay for rehabilitation centers and to spend money to try and stop people from abusing it.

Tajanae Smith - Alcoholism

Posted by Tajanae Smith in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11:44 am

During this project, I learned that substance abuse disorder is a huge issue in many people lives. Although many people suffer from this disorder there are many resources available to help with this disorder it's just the matter of someone wanting the help. This disorder is very serious and could affect me and doing this project it has given me a different perspective of alcoholism and made me see that I personally need to be more precautious. Also, I learned how it could also be genetic so maybe I could help others by letting others know whats at risk.

Cash'e Chapman - Alcoholism

Overall this project has taught me a lot about alcoholism. It broke stereotypes that I had teaching me new terms such as substance abuse disorder. Interviewing and researching this topic gave me a new perspective to attend college with. It taught you me to be careful and mindful not only of myself but of others as well. Which in my eyes helps public health maybe in a large and instantly noticeable way but still helps as my peers and I are informed of this public health issue and can help spread knowledge to slowly make a significant change in our society. Human Anatomy- Alcohol Substance Abuse

Posted by Queren Villegas in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11:35 am

This PSA is based on alcohol substance abuse. Now my group and I chose this topic because it was something that interested us all and wanted to learn more about formally rather than just the things one hears from others. In the video, we talk about the major issues related to alcohol substance abuse and the stigmas that come with recovery. We learned that help for those who suffer from alcohol substance abuse is looked down upon and is actually hard to find help for organizations to survive. Further explaining the new ways alcohol prevention is being taught.
We want to educate people on how this addiction can impact both our society now and the future. Not only is it one that is causing our society to suffer, de-nourish and even die, but is also affecting future generations statistically and genetically. I learned a lot of new material on alcohol, this PSA became very important along the way. As the more research, we did the better we were able to look at the situation in our society. Substance abuse is a public health problem, and a community can change that. We hope to educate people with this PSA and help others look at alcohol substance abuse in a healthier way. As well as encourage others to help those with a problem.

Tyrone Grant Q4 Benchmark - Teen Pregnancy

Posted by Tyrone Grant in Biology of the Human Body · Aziz · E on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 8:02 am

For our PSA, we chose the topic of teen pregnancy because not only is it a common situation in our society, but also my mother experienced this first hand. In the video, my mother explained the struggles of what she had to go through when she first became a mother such losing friends, gaining tons of responsibilities without realizing it, and how her life drastically changed claiming that it got a lot harder for her. The purpose of this video is to show awareness to sex-driven teens, and also people who witnessed others go through this want to help. I believe that I contributed well towards the PSA by interviewing my mother, editing the video, and creating questions for the interview. One thing that I would change differently is that I would utilize my time more efficiently. If I had given myself more time, I could've made the video better by using a different editor.
